In general, Abbreviation is a short form of a long word or phrase. A T24 user would not
like to type in the full application name everyday to invoke some frequently used
application. It would be much easier for the user if an abbreviation exists for the
application. Abbreviations have been introduced in T24 to avoid using long T24
Application names , longer version names and to customise T24 commands for the
user
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 3
Lets take a look at how to invoke an application from the command prompt. You type
in the application name at the command prompt, FUNDS.TRANSFER in this example
and the application is launched in a new window. Don’t you think it would be easier to
type ‘FT’ instead of ‘FUNDS.TRANSFER’ to invoke the funds transfer application?
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 4
In this illustration you see how to invoke a version for money market application. As a
first step, create a version for the application. The version is invoked by typing the
application name followed by a comma and the version name. The version is launched
in the new window. Again it much be much easier for the end user if the version is
abbreviated.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 5
ABBREVIATION application in T24 is used to create abbreviations for applications,
versions and enquiries. To create an abbreviation, say MM for Money Market
application, the ID for the abbreviation application is entered as ‘MM’. Lets take a look
at the fields in this application.
ORIGINAL TEXT :The actual text that would have been entered in the command line.
It is a mandatory field.
This field contains the original Application, Function command or record ID for which
the abbreviation was created.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 6
To create an abbreviation for money market, enter the application name
MM.MONEY.MARKET in the field Original Text. Don’t forget to commit and authorise
the record. MM is the abbreviation used for this application as indicated by the ID.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 7
Now lets learn how to invoke the application with the abbreviation you just created.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 8
To create an abbreviation for a version MM.MONEY.MARKET,CALLDEP ,create an
abbreviation record with ID as the abbreviation you want to use, say MMCALLDEP.
Don’t forget to commit and authorize the record.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 9
To invoke the version, type MMCALLDEP at the command prompt. This is the ID of
the abbreviation record.
This launches the version created for the money market application in a new window.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 10
How do you invoke an enquiry in T24? You type in ENQUIRY.SELECT followed by the
enquiry name. For easy use, an abbreviation record ENQ is created with the Original
Text set as ENQUIRY.SELECT. So you can use ENQ instead of typing
ENQUIRY.SELECT to invoke an enquiry.
CUS1.Creating Abbreviations-R10 11
Now that you have created an abbreviation ENQ for an enquiry, lets launch the enquiry
for PROTOCOL application. At the command prompt type ENQ followed by the
enquiry, say %PROTOCOL in this example. This brings up the selection criteria box
for the enquiry in a new window as illustrated.
