Philippine Festivals
The concept of the fiesta is an influence that came from the Spaniards. They used this as a
supplemental tool to propagate Christianity by using it as an attraction for the natives to
gather, and an opportunity to introduce their religion. It was proven effective as the natives
settled in from other places and were drawn near and far as they are lured into the unusual
attractions.
Religious Festivals
HIGANTES FESTIVAL
The Feast of San Clemente popularly known as
the Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal is
characterized by its grand procession featuring
the higantes or the 10-foot papier-mache
puppets made by the locals. It is an annual event
that shows the artistic expression, as well as the
creative recycling of the people from Angono,
due to the fact that a higante is made using only
old newspaper, rattan poles, and some wheat
paste.

Values Integration
Filipino traditions. Fiestas served as a thanksgiving of people to their patron saints for an
abundant life, good harvests and all the blessings received.
Art symbolizes culture and tradition which are represented in the festival.
Philippine festivals showcase Filipino traditions that are God-centered. Through recycling, we
will be able to show our concern for the environment. Participating and being proud of our
festivals show our nationalism.
Closure
In the Philippines, we have two types of festivals celebrated throughout the year. The 1st
one is a religious festival and 2nd one is a non-religious or cultural festival.
The art elements like Color, line, and texture are considered and their principles like balance
and repetition are used to come up with good designs.
