OPINION

1. (07/11/2015) Whether or not someone achieves their aims is mostly by a question

of luck. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Idea: while luck partly contribute to one’s success, I would argue that others are the
decisive factors.
Body1: being lucky is important and it help you to reach ur goal quicker but it is not a
compulsory factor (eg, when prep for upcoming exam, instead of covering the whole
syllabus, some tends to only learn a few part and hoping these parts appear in the
questions. But if you don’t study at the first place how can you pass the exam,
moreover, the more u study, the more chance of getting the prepared subjects in the
exam u get. )
Body 2: endeavor and determination are the components that help you succeed
sustainably. -> There would be times when bad luck happens eg difficult exam, -> ur
prior preparation is the key to deal with-> In addition, luck is not controllable-> the
safest way is to cling to ur effort.
2. (09/01/2016) It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history
than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Idea: both are important-> should be evaluated equally.
Body 1: local history
+ shows event in detail which could not be done in world history-> deeper
understanding -> be more grateful since they can live in peace thanks to the older
generations effort during wars.
Students may also learn their origins and cultures though historical lessons, which
reminds them of their roots and contributes to an all-round education
Body 2: world histoty’s benefit.
+ provide objective perspectives -> not to overwhemingly take pride on our local
history since the local tends to ignore or refer faintly the loss of them.
+various battles, dynasties (eg. WWI, WWII, cold war)-> broden our horizon ->
appreciate the diversity of the world
