This Special Instruction is used to set up communications with and flash both the 10R-4085 Engine
Electronic Control Gp and 10R-1824 Engine Electronic Control Gp.

View of the Electronic Control Module (ECM)
(1) J1 connector
1. Connect the Power Cable As (T1) to the J1 connector (1) of the Electronic Control Module
(ECM).
2. Connect the (DATA LINK) Cable As (T2b) to the Communication Adapter (T2a).
3. Connect the Communication Adapter (T2a) to the computer using the Cable As (T2c).

4. Connect the black harness clip of the Power Cable As (T1) to "–BAT".
5. Connect the red harness clip of the Power Cable As (T1) to "+BAT".

6. Start the communication with Cat ® Electronic Technician (ET). When the screen above
appears click "OK" (2).

7. Wait until one of the two screens above appears. In either of the two screens select "Cancel"
(3).

8. Open the "Utilities" menu (4) and then select "Winflash" (5).

(6) American Trucking Association (ATA)
(7) "Software Part Number"
(8) "Load Product Flash File"
Note: ECM will not flash unless American Trucking Association (ATA) is connected and
Winflash is configured for ATA communication (6).
10. The current "Software Part Number" (7) will show 0000000-00. (This part number is normal
and does not mean that the ECM memory has not been washed at the factory).
11. Select "Load Product Flash File" (8) to select the name of the flash file that will be
programmed into the ECM.

(9) "Open"
12. A new window will appear. Select the correct flash file and press "Open" (9).
13. Verify that the "File Values" match the application. If the "File Values" do not match the
application, obtain the correct flash file.
14. When the correct flash file is selected, select "Begin Flash".
15. Cat ET will indicate when flash programming has been successfully completed.
