Session 1 (Background):
Warm up: 5 minutes
Material: Speaker or cellphone - adjectives
Greet students and ask for date and weather. Play some music and say aloud “Freeze Dance!” Explain that the music will stop, and - verbs
they must freeze and hold the position they are in until the music begins again. Student who moves when is not supposed to, will - professions
say an adjective, and the next student who loses will say 2 verbs, and the next student who loses will say 3 professions and so on.

Presentation: 15 minutes

Inform students that today they will learn about the different types of questions. Start by telling students "Do you know that there, - open questions
are different types of questions?" Elicit answers and write them on the board. Then draw the following chart: - closed questions

Explain:
Open questions. In these questions the answer is not given, it requires you to express an answer, e.g., comprehension or opinion.
Closed questions. In these questions the answer is already given, it allows you to choose an answer, e.g., multiple choice, yes/no,
true or false.

Practice: 10 minutes
Material: 1 sheet of paper.
Give each student a sheet of paper. Show how to fold it to make a paper booklet as seen below.

Production: 15 minutes
Material: Handout 1, and poster of questions (material provided by the language department)
Give students a copy of handout 1 and use it as a reference to answer questions, and display poster of questions.
In one page students will write one of the questions from the chart. Leave an empty space in the other page next to it. Go over
different questions and let students answer, then check with the whole group if the answers are correct. Have students brainstorm
possible answers.

Wrap up: 5 minutes


Material: Handout 1
Next to each question, they could paste its corresponding “Wh-question” from handout 1.

Session 2 Knowing about the language


Warm up: 5 minutes (Background):
Material: N/A
Greet students. Let students exercise doing a few repetitions of sit ups, stretches, etc. - exercise
In the meantime, they could play “Who ate the cookie from the cookie jar?” or play with other questions.

Presentation: 15 minutes Wh Questions


Material: Board, marker or chalk. Handout 1 and 2. Poster of questions provided by the Language Department. - Who
Inform students that they will review the open questions. Can you say any question you remember? Show Handout 1. - What

Material: Handout “Getting to know me” Worksheet 1, board, markers or chalk, eraser.
Give each student a copy of Worksheet 1 “Getting to know me”, read it step by step as you lead student to answers.
Then tell them that these sentences in the text can be changed into questions. Show the following formula below:

Encourage students to say two more examples of open questions. Then, elicit the corresponding answers to those questions.

Divide the class in pairs and ask students to form questions using the partners’ information that could be, age, height, favorite
sport, brothers, sisters, etc.

Work on a review of the types of questions in group. Ask for two cardboards for the next session.

Session 3 Knowing about the language


Warm up: 5 minutes (Background):
Material: Speakers and question dice provided by the language department.
Play “Hot Potato” pass the questions dice as the music plays, the student who holds it when - verbs
music stops will answer one of the questions in the dice.

Presentation: 15 minutes - How old are you?
Material: Markers or chalk, board. Handout 3. - Where do you live?
Write on the board the following answers. Or Give students a copy of handout 3. - When is your birthday?

Based on their previous notes, ask students what questions would go for each answer; Elicit the corresponding answers. Or adapt
it to the content in the “Interview poster” provided by the language department.

Practice: 15 minutes - nouns
Material: Cardboard
Tell students they will do something similar, explain they will make a Domino in class. Ask them to take out their 2 cardboard sheets
and divide them in four. Explain that they will put a random question on the top part and a random answer on the bottom. They will
write 2 questions and 2 answers, and on the other two, one will be all questions and the last will be all answers.

Tell students to keep 2, and the other one will be for use of the mule (domino piece that has the same value in each half). This
domino has the same value in each half, as the one needed for the activity.
Play Domino Game with the whole class when the dominoes are ready. Divide the class in groups of four. Each team will give you
their mule so that if they don´t have an answer or question that corresponds, they have to eat one from the pieces of domino, it’s
necessary to move all desks to the side to use the whole classroom or take students outside if allowed. E.g.

Session 4 Knowing about the language


Warm up: 5 minutes (Background):
Material: N/A
Greet. Tell them they will play a game named “follow the leader”. An action/exercise will be performed. The one who makes a
mistake, will answer a question related to previous session, E.g. “When is your birthday?” “What is your last name? “and so on.
Presentation: 10 minutes
Material: Worksheet 1, handout 1.
Encourage students to form their own “Getting to know me text”. Explain that this information will be used to make a yearbook as
a final project. Provide Handout 1. Read the information, but do not translate words, you can mimic them or try to give examples.
Practice: 15 minutes
Material: Notebook and worksheet 1
Show worksheet 1; ask to a student what he/she thinks the worksheet is about.
Clarify the meaning of the unknown words. Remember not to give the answers but give clues. To practice and clarify the Hobbies
understanding of the objective, you can ask some oral questions related to the worksheet and ask 3 or 4 random students to confirm - singing
understanding. After explaining how to use worksheet 1, students will answer the questions by filling in the blank. - dancing

Session 5 Knowing about the language


Warm up: 5 minutes (Background):
Material: Ball
Play the game hot potato with students, whoever has the ball when the song is over, will stand up and introduce himself/herself. Basic personal info.
The student will say their name, age, favorite sport and favorite color. If the student needs it, help them by giving clues to remember
the word or even use the vocabulary key chain that we use in the previous classes.
Presentation: 10 minutes
Material: Worksheet 2
Explain them that they will choose 4-8 classmates to interview and record their answers, so that they create a yearbook of personal
info of their classmates. They are free to design their own.

Practice: 15 minutes
Material: Worksheet 2
Ask students to work on worksheet 2. Hand out a copy to each student and ask to go on with the interviews as explained before.

Invite some students from other groups. Encourage your students to make the oral interview to the invited students.
