1.0 OZONE GENERATORS – Plate Type, Low Density Corona Discharge.

Range of Ozonator : VRS 2/3/5/6/8/10/12/16/20/25/30/40/60

1a) Plate type ozone Generators are provided with the primary aim of achieving
reduction in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), hydro carbon gases, and organic
odors, in Indoor Environment. They also serve purpose of propagation of microbial
organisms and micro flora, commonly found in indoor environments, HVAC ducts,
cooling coils and on air filters. VOC reduction is achieved by oxidation of VOC by
ozone. Depletion of microbial colonies is achieved by inhibiting their growth and
propagation.
1b) The aim is to ensure the VOC are kept below the TLV (Threshold Limit Value) for
occupied areas, as recommended by OSHA.
1c) The maximum residual concentration of ozone in the indoor environment will never
allowed to exceed 50 PPB (v/v). PPB is Parts per Billion.
1d) Ozone Generators shall be provided where called for, with number of corona
discharge plates as listed in the schedules.
1e) These plate type Ozone Generators shall be compact, self contained units in SS316
L with all components factory mounted in one neat, compact package.
1f) Parts of the generators in contact with air stream are kept to as minimum as
required.
1g) Components in contact with air stream are enclosed in stainless steel casing 18 G
SS316L thick, with sufficient stamped integral openings to allow adequate flow of
air over the corona discharge plates.
1h) The generator plates shall be mounted on generator head fabricated out of materials
that repel accumulation and formation of sediments by tar, nicotine and grease. This
is an extremely important prerequisite to enhance the operational reliability and
ease of maintenance of the generator plates.
1i) The generators are suitable for mounting in ducts with air flow in horizontal,
vertical or angular directions.
1j) The generator operates effectively with air flow in either direction that is left to
right or vice versa in horizontal ducts, and top to bottom or vice versa in vertical
ducts.
1k) Generators can be electrically interlocked with motor of the air handling unit fan.
This will prevent start of the generator unless the fan motor is energized.

1
1l) Generator is mounted inside the ducts. It will be provided with flange suitable for
mounting on a metal frame, to be installed inside the duct.
1m) Openings in the ducts are made with sheet metal shears or cutters. Metal saw or
grinding machine shall not be used, except to make an initial cut to permit use of
metal shear. This precaution is taken to prevent metal debris from falling into the
ducts.
1n) When mounted on the supply air duct, it is importantly ensured that the chosen
location does not have carry over moisture from cooling coil or humidifier, or any
other moisture emitting device.
1o) Care is taken to ensure the generator is mounted on a straight run of duct with
steady flow of air. Installation on bends, elbows, transition pieces, or close to
dampers is not recommended.
1p) Generation of ozone is only by principles of corona discharge. Multiple numbers of
corona discharge plates used to provide the necessary quantity of ozone. All the
corona discharge plates shall be housed in one common stainless steel enclosure.
1q) Only multiple plate type corona surfaces shall be used for ozone generation.
Production density of ozone per sq inch (or sq cm) of surface area of corona surface
shall be as low as possible. Rate of variation of production of ozone shall follow
approximately the rate of variation of VOC in the indoor environment. This is in
view to ensure residual level of ozone in the indoor environment remains low while
ensuring residual VOC level also remains low.
1r) Annular type of corona or corona tube generator mounted outside the air stream
with ozone tube to the duct shall not be used as they produce very high
concentrations or ozone which is undesirable for IAQ improvement.
1s) Ozone and VOC is detected in the same gaseous stream, and ozone production is in
this stream. To ensure this, ozone generator is of duct mounted type. Portable type
generators that produce ozone outside the HVAC air stream are not acceptable in
IAQ treatment.
1t) Ozone generator does not require any consumable for its operation, except for use
of electricity.
1u) The system does not rely on initial or replacement of filters of any sort to remove
odors and chemicals.
1v) The ozone generators are capable of operating on 220 to 240 Volts, single phase
power supply, 50 Hz. They are properly grounded. Ease of maintenance is
important consideration. They are manufactured to permit easy withdrawals and
refitting on the ducts, with minimum use of tools of hardware to remove or refit the
generators to the ducts.

4a) Ozone concentration monitor cum sensor is provided for the occupied areas. At least one
Monitor/Sensor is provided for generators in the AHU serving the area.

4c) The sensor, monitor and all components is mounted in one neat and compact case, suitable
for wall mounting.
4d) The monitor shall have electrical leads to provide an open contact. In the event concentration
of ozone reaches the set alarm value, ‘Normally Open’ changes to ‘Normally Close’ position.
This will be used to electrically cut out the ozone generator, when concentration reaches the
set value.
4e) Additionally, if required it can also be provided an audible alarm, which is activated if the
concentration reaches the set level. Switch shall be provided on the case of the monitor, to
turn off the alarm, at the option of the user.
4f) The alarm can be factory set at 50 PPB. However, it shall be possible to change this setting in
the field to any desired level & also be locked programmable so as to safeguard the system.
4g) The monitor provides a linear 0 to 10 Volts DC output voltage, proportional to concentration
of ozone. This will be interfaced with the BMS to record continuously concentration in PPB
or PPM, and also to produce hard copy printouts. This will also enable shutting down the
ozone generators through the BMS, if the set high level is reached.
4h) The monitor is capable of interfacing with BMS. Necessary transponders to enable this will
be provided by others.
4i) It is also possible to set the high ozone cut out level through the BMS, and to shut down the
