2.2 General
Neofuge 15 High Speed Bench-top Centrifuge with multi-functional protection
introduces advanced technology such as speed adjustment via frequency control,
microcomputer control, touch button, digital setup, digital LCD. Six kinds of rotors are
available (For details, see “Table 1: Type of rotor and technical parameters”). This
centrifuge is used to separate biologic cells, organism and bacteria.

2.3 Device structure

This device is composed of many components, such as lid system, chamber system,
drive system, rotor system, base system, electric power system, control system, display
system and warning system.
2.3.1 Lid system is composed of the lid, lid hinge, gas springs, lid lock, lid warning, and
opening hole and so on. The lid hinge is at the back of the machine frame and the lid lock is
in front of the machine frame. Only when the lid lock is locked firmly, may the centrifuge run;
otherwise the warning system will run (The lights is on and the buzzer sounds) and the device
can’t run.
To open the lids, you only need to press “ ” (opening key) on the control panel. When
the lid rise to certain height, the lid hinge and springs can support the lid.

5.6 Maintenance of lock sleeve and supporting shaft of rotor
Steps to maintain lock sleeve and supporting shaft of rotor
z To turn on the electricity, wait until the self-check is completed;
z To press “ ” to open the lid of the centrifuge.
z To screw off the fastening screw (lock sleeve of the rotor) with special tools for
assembling and disassembling of rotors attached with the machine, then clean it.
Attention: the clockwise direction is for screwing and counterclockwise for loosening;
z To clean the cone section (see Fig. 9);
z To clear dust, impurity and remains separated before away from the centrifugal chamber
to make it clean and clear;
z To clean external surface of the lock sleeve of the rotor;
z To screw the fastening bolt into the screw of the cone section slowly with special tools
for assembling and disassembling rotors (inner hexagon spanner of 5 mm). Attention:
appropriate strength is permissible. The bolt is not allowed to touch the bottom,
otherwise the fastening bolt and cone section may be damaged and the rotor can’t be
mounted.

5.7 The calculation of rotor load

z Calculation of maximum load capacity
When the Neofuge 15 High Speed Centrifuge is running at high speed, there is enormous
centrifugal force; each rotor is designed to hold enough mechanical strength at the maximum
rated rotary speed-that is “safety factor”; However, the “safety factor” determines the rotor
load not to exceed it maximum rated load.
When separating samples, the total weight is not allowed to exceed the maximum rated
load of the rotor. Otherwise, you should reduce the weight of samples or calculate
permissible running speed (NPERM) to ensure the rotor load not to exceed its maximum rated
load.
Calculation method of permissible running speed (NPERM)is as follows:
NPERM=Nmax ×(maximum permissible load÷actual load)0.5
Nmax: Maximum rated rotary speed;
maximum permissible load:
actual load:

No overloading! The rotor may explode, thus pieces

produced may do damage to the centrifuge!

5.8 Samples filling into the centrifugal containers

Please carefully ensure the centrifugal container (centrifugal tube

etc.) to be in accordance with permissible maximum rated
acceleration (centrifugal force); please slow down for use if
possible.
When the centrifuge runs it is better to keep balance. It should not be interfered due to
vibration in separated area for samples. So it is necessary to fill the centrifugal container with
samples evenly. All samples should be placed in appropriate containers.

Take care of the operation life of centrifugal containers

used, especially the ones run under maximum
permissible load and velocity. Please change it for a new
one if the centrifugal container (plastic, glass container) is
damaged.

5.9 Safety use of rotor

5.9.1 Before the rotor runs, you should load samples and place tubes correctly.
5.9.2 When installing the centrifugal cup of the swing-out rotor, please check whether pintles
in the bearing are in the slots on both sides of the centrifugal cup and whether the four
centrifugal cups are flexible by hand.
5.9.3 The horizontal rotor is not allowed to experience long running at the critical speed of
2000r/min, otherwise, major vibration may occur and the working life will be shortened.
5.9.4 When changing rotors, please unscrew bolts in the counterclockwise direction to loosen
the rotor.

5.9.5 Do not start the machine when fastening screw is loosed.

5.9.6 When repeated running is needed for the centrifuge, you should check the fastening
screw after the rotor has run several times.
5.9.7 It is allowed to load samples into the centrifugal tubes symmetrically at different time.
Asymmetrical loading is strictly forbidden.

5.10 Parameters setting

Attention:
z You should install the rotor in the rotary shaft before setting parameters.
z This machine adopts touching buttons. You merely need to tightly touch related places
when setting parameters.
z You may set up the parameters again when mistakes occur in the operation.

5.10.1 Selection of accelerating and decelerating curve

This machine provides users with a selection function of curve lines, consisting of 9
different kinds of elevating speed curve lines.
z Switch on the power switch of the machine. Shows to enter the main interface when
initialization is completed.
z Press directly [▲] or [▼] button of the key [ ] on control panel one time to require
the preset numerical value and the numerical value won’t be changed when the machine
stops running. Continue to press it for more than one second to add or decrease preset
elevating speed curve line. At the same time, the lowest line on main interface shows
[↑↓] on the left side and preset elevating speed curve line on the right side. The
date will be stored into the system automatically and the interface returns to its
original status when setting is finished two seconds.

5.10.2 Setting of rotary speed:

Rotary speed range of Neofuge 15 High Speed Bench-top Centrifuge: The minimum
rotary speed: 300r/min, the maximum rotary speed: 16, 000 r/min.
Set rotary speed of rotors according to the following steps:
To see whether there is a dot before “00000 rpm” (as shown in figure 7), if there is no
dot, press again the “Speed/F” key to switch, and then press [▲] or [▼] one time to require
the preset numerical value and the numerical value won’t be changed during the periods of
stopping and running. Continue to press [▲] and [▼] on “Speed” icon of control panel (as
shown in figure 4) for more than one second to add or decrease preset rotary speed. At the
same time, the lowest line on main interface shows [↑↓] on the left side and preset rotary
speed on the right side. The date will be stored into the system automatically and the
interface returns to its original status when setting is finished two seconds.

5.10.3 Setting of the centrifugal force:

It is also feasible to change the setting of the rotary speed of Neofuge 15 High Speed
Bench-top Centrifuge through setting the numerical value of “centrifugal force”. Only when
you understand the type No. of the rotor may you convert the centrifugal force and rotary
speed regularly. The value of the centrifugal force and rotary speed will be displayed at the
same time.
So the value of the centrifugal force and rotary speed are displayed synchronously and
regularly only the centrifuge has run several seconds and the type No. of the rotor is
identified.

To set the centrifugal force as follows:

1. To see whether there is a dot before “00000 rcf ” on the bottom of the main interface
(as shown in figure 8), if there is no dot, press again the “Speed/F” key to switch to
“00000 rcf” , and then press [▲] or [▼] one time to require the preset numerical value.
2. Continue to press [▲] and [▼] to add up or decrease the value in “00000”
3. The date will be stored into the system automatically and the interface returns to its
original status when the value in “00000” reaches to your desired value two seconds.

Attention: Numerical values of centrifugal force set

should not be too low; otherwise rotary speed of some rotors may
be under 300r/min, leading to instability of devices!
5.10.4 Calculation on centrifugal force
Generally speaking, the relative centrifugal force is several thousand times more than the
G-force (g). It is the unit to measure the efficiency of various instruments to separate or
deposit things. The calculation of the centrifugal force is related to the centrifugal rational
speed and centrifugal radius. The method is as follows:
RCF=11.18 ×(n/1000)2× r
r:Centrifugal radius, unit: cm;
n:Centrifugal speed, unit: rpm (Rpm)
Attention:The numerical value of the maximum centrifugal force is related to the
maximum radius
The radius of the rotor and the shape of centrifugal contain are taken into account in
setting of “The numerical value of the centrifugal force “.

5.10.5 Setting of running time:

Setting range of running time of rotors of Neofuge 15 High Speed Bench-top
Centrifuge:1m~9h and 59m.
To press [▲] and [▼] on “Time” icon one time to require the preset numerical value and
the numerical value won’t be changed during the periods of stopping and running. Continue
to press it for more than one second to add or decrease preset running time. At the same time,
the lowest line on main interface shows [↑↓] on the left side and preset time on the right
side. The date will be stored into the system automatically and the interface returns
to its original status when setting is finished two seconds. The 3rd area of figure 5 shows
preset time.

5.10.6 Running of device

z The device can’t start until the users’ data have been set, the rotor has been installed,
samples to be separated placed correctly and the lid closed.
Attention:A lid lock icon on the main interface may tell you “Whether the lid of the device is
closed correctly”.
z Centrifugal work starts
1. To press the start key [►] on the control panel and the rotor is running evening at the
speed of 300r/min; At the same time, carry out rotor identification work.
2. After the rotor has been identified, the rotor accelerates according to preset elevating
speed curve line to preset rotary speed;
3. When press the start key [►] on the control panel, the running time is counting down
from “09:59”. When it displays zero, that is “00:00”, the centrifuge stops and the work is
finished;
4. In operation, the rotary speed and the centrifugal force (see Figure 7) rise separately from
“00000” and “00000” until they reach the setting “Rotary speed” and “Centrifugal
force”, and the centrifugal force of them is converted automatically according to the
rotor detected;
5. There should be warning prompts if the rotary speed and centrifugal force of the rotor
exceed the permissible maximum value or setting value; and if there are temperature
protection operation of the electric machinery, over-voltage operation of the compressor
and something wrong with the (EEROM, RAM) and so on, there should also be warning
prompts;
6. Opening of the lid is forbidden while the rotor is running.
Attention:For more details about concrete warning prompts, see “Trouble shooting”.
5.10.7 Imbalance detection
If the rotor doesn’t run smoothly and the vibration of the rotational shaft exceeds the
setting scope in operation, the device should stop at once and warning indication (normally
imbalance load imposed on the load) prompts appear. Open the lid after the running comes
to a stop. The device may start once more after the lid is opened to eliminate the trouble.

5.10.8 Modification of parameter during operation

The parameters except the accelerating curve and braking curve can be modified in
operation, including the rotating speed, running time, centrifugal force and so on.
After the parameter has been modified and the main interface menu appears, the newly
setting parameters will come into effect.

5.10.9 Termination of the centrifuge operation

There are two ways to terminate the centrifuge operation:
In normal operation, the running time has been set. So when the running time is out, the
centrifuge will stop automatically.
When the rotary speed of the rotor falls to zero, that is “RPM:00000” and “RCF:
00000”, you may press the opening key “ ” on the control panel and lift the lid slightly to
open the lid. The state of the lid lock displays the tapered end is open, then you can take out
the samples separated in the centrifuge.
In normal operation, you may press “■” on the control panel any time to terminate the
centrifuge on half way, and the centrifuge stops immediately. The countdown stops at the
same time. You can press “ ” to open the lid only the “RPM” and “RCF” (centrifugal force)
centrifugal force) displayed fall to zero. The state of the lid lock displays the tapered end is
open at the same time, and then you can take out the samples separated in the centrifuge.
Attention:If the centrifuge stops on half way, the running time which is updated to
“Setting time” will be “00:00” (see Figure 7), and remains to the next start.

5.10.10 Disassembling of rotors

Attention: When disassembling rotors, you should catch

them and lift by both hands. Vibration is forbidden.

Steps to disassemble rotors are as follows:

1. To stop the centrifuge;
2. To open the lid;
3. To take out the centrifugal container first if the horizontal rotor exists;
4. To unscrew the fastening screw in the counterclockwise direction with special tools
(torque spanner or inner hexagon spanner of 5mm) for disassembling. (no need to take
out)
5. To catch the rotor by both hands and vertically lift it. Vibration is forbidden;
6. You may take the sample separated, container and rotor from the fastening bolt (lock
sleeve of the rotor) if the sample separated is polluted or to prevent it to be polluted!
7. Then you may take the sample from the rotor in appropriate places where there are
preventive measures, for example:to put the sample separated, container and rotor in the
safe chest for biological operation and open the rotor to take the sample out after being
purified.
