Carrefour supermarket chain

Overview:
Carrefour is a French global mall chain. It is the world's largest retail chain by volume and
the world's second largest retail group by revenue, after Wal-Mart. Carrefour has about
1,500 hypermarkets, in addition to small stores such as Carrefour Express, Carrefour City,
Carrefour City Café and others.
Carrefour has 35 stores in Egypt, which are often located in malls and frequented by the
Egyptian upper class. 8 more stores or more coming in 2012/2013.
The first Carrefour store opened in 1960, in the suburb of Annecy. Created in 1959,
by Marcel Fournier, Denis Devory and Jacques Devory, the Carrefour Group is the first
in Europe to open a hypermarket, a large supermarket and a department store under
one roof. They opened their first hypermarket on June 15, 1963 in a French commune,
near Paris.
In 1999, Carrefour merged with Promod, and the deal is estimated to be worth 15.6
billion euros, adding that this deal will ignite the race between Wal-Mart and the
Carrefour Group for the title of the most global retailer.
On June 9, 2017, the Board of Directors chose Alexandre Bombard as CEO of Carrefour
with effect from July 18, 2017.

 In January 2018, Alexandre Bombard announced a strategic plan for the company, titled
"Carrefour 2022", that seeks to make Carrefour the "pioneer of food transformation for

cost-cutting measures.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Carrefour's Board of Directors has decided
