1. How to securely open Word document received from unknown
source?

Answer: We can use the Word Protected view concept in Microsoft Word in order to open the file from
unsafe location without risking our computer getting infected.

Overview
When you download files from the unknown source, the file can contain some harmful aspects to like
worms, viruses or other kinds of malware that can harm your computer. So, when this is enabled the file
opens in protected mode, so you can see its content before enabling the editing.

Step by Step Instructions


This feature is enabled by default in word and in case it’s not enabled or you want to modify the settings
you can access the feature setting by going to

• File > Options

• Click Trust Center > Trust Center Settings

• Select Protected view and then change settings as you prefer and hit OK.

This is enabled by default but the best way to utilize this feature is when you open the document, see
and look if the content that you’re seeing on the document is the one you expected and then enabling
the editing rights.

2. How to Insert Charts in Microsoft Word?
Answer: You can either add charts as an image copied from Excel or creating a native chart on the Word
utilizing Microsoft Excel, see the step by step instructions below to see how you can do it.

Overview
Charts help you visualize data in Microsoft word and sometimes you want to add some visual elements
to support your ideas and in that case the charts come in handy.

Step by Step Instructions


In order to use charts in Microsoft word its required that you have Microsoft Excel installed as the charts
can be added using Excel functionality coupled with the Microsoft Word.

There are two ways to add the charts, one simply copying the chart and embedding the chart from Excel
and but that is simple copy and paste and the data won’t change.

We will focus on the way in which we use Word file to create chart entirely based on the Microsoft
Word.

• In the word document go to the Insert> Chart

• After this a new window will open which will show the list of charts available and choose the
one you like.

modify to present your own data.

• Once edited you can close the Excel windows and save the document and that is how you have
added a dynamic chart to your document

3. How to use Clipboard Panel in Microsoft Word to hold multiple
clipboard items?
Answer: Clipboard panel allows you to hold up to 24 things that you can copy and allow you to access all

Sometimes you want to copy and paste multiple items and the standard feature in Windows based PC
allow you to copy and paste only item at a time and So word allows a feature which allow you to retain
multiple copied terms, images and more so you can use them at any point you like and it also allows you
to copy from any program and retains up to 24 terms which you can copy and paste.

Step by Step Instructions

• In order to access the Clipboard, go to Home and then click the Clipboard dialog box launcher.

• You should see a pane open to the right of the document and that will show you the content
you will copy from any place.

• You can paste/remove the information shows on clipboard simply by hovering over an image or
text copied and selecting the paste from dropdown or simply double clicking it and you will see
that pasted on the document where your cursor is.

• This comes very handy when you’re using few same text or image several times and you need to
access them quickly and repeating the same copy and paste action will result in time being
wasted and which this feature will help you avoid.

4. How to use Word Linked Note
Answer: Work link notes can be accessed by the Review ribbon and you need Microsoft OneNote
installed to use the feature, see step by step instructions to see how you can utilize it.

Overview
This feature exists in word so you can take notes one Microsoft OneNote alongside the word document
and while you taking notes the OneNote will take note of the document you’re using in word and will
store the link to it for your future reference.

• Go to the Review ribbon and then select the option Linked Notes and a one window will open
to the side of the document.

• Now the OneNote will keep the reference to the document we were completing our research
from.

5. How to use Line number to refer to specific section in the Word
document
Answer: You can use the option Restart Each section from the Line Numbers option on the Layout
ribbon, check out more details on how to do it below.

Overview
Line numbers feature can help you add lines to the number the word document allowing you keep track
how much each section of the word document contains the lines. You can also suppress the line
numbers on a specific para by discounting lines on a specific paragraph.

Step by Step Instructions


• Go to Layout ribbon and from the group page setup select the option Line numbers.

• Now by selecting the lines by Restart Each section, you can identify a specific section by the
numbers. You can observe the same happening in the below screenshot.

• This feature can be utilized to create line numbers across all the word and can help us count the
number of lines that are featured on a specific document, paragraph or section as we need.

6. What is Hyphenation and how to use it in Microsoft Word

Answer: Hyphenation is the process in which Microsoft Word splits the text into two parts by a hyphen
(“-“) when it’s at the end of the line in order to get the text in a paragraph to look more even.

Overview

All the documents have boundaries and sometimes we want to adhere to boundaries of the document
but want our text to be more evenly distributed than what we had before and so the hyphenation
comes in handy when we want to do that for the document.

Step by Step Instructions

Hyphenation by default is turned off in Microsoft Word and in order to enable the same do the
following.

• Go to the Layout and select the option Hyphenation.

• You can choose the Automatic or Manual as you prefer and in Automatic Word will
automatically hyphenate all the text possible.

• When you select the manual, word will identify all the possible location where hyphenation will
achieve you a more even looking document.

• This feature comes in handy when you’re trying to write for a magazine or newspaper and want
to have a more even look.
• This can also help you save some space while printing the document as Word will try and
eliminate the extra spaces where possible.

7. How to Electronically sign Word document by using Digital
Signatures in Microsoft Word

Answer: A digital signature is an electronic, encrypted, stamp of authentication on digital information


such as e-mail messages, macros, or electronic documents.

Overview
A signature confirms that the information originated from the signer and has not been altered and it
authenticates the document and protects it so it certifies the document in a way has been originated at
the end user and is not in risk in anyway.

In order to add the Digital signature in Word you need to have a signing certificate issued by the
certificate authority Certificate authority (CA)

In order to add the Digital signature, do the following steps

• Click the File> Info

• Then the dropdown from protect document and then click Add a Digital Signature.
• Add the required information and click sign.

The digital signature helps us in the following ways

a. A digital signature guarantees that the document is Authentic and originated at the end of the
signer.
b. The content has not been altered since it’s been signed so it tells us that the integrity of the
document is intact.
c. Proves to all parties the origin of the signed content.
d. Signatures in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files, which are time stamped by a secure time-stamp
server, under certain circumstances, have the validity of a notarization.

8. How to manage Citations in Word Document
Answer: We can manage citations, by going to Reference ribbon and then using the Insert Citation
option and have a look at the step by instructions below to see how to access the option.

Overview
Citations are required in creating content now a days with internet and books being one of many places
we can get the information from use it in the document. Word offers us an amazing way to add citation
and create bibliography without much effort

Step by Step Instructions


We can add citation to the document by following below method

• Go to Reference tab and then to the Citations & Bibliography group and select a style and select
the type of style of you want for the citation and the source.

• After that click the Insert Citation and select the option Add New Source and then you will be
greeted by the bottom window and fill the information for the source.

• One saved you can simply select the spot with cursor where you want to add the citation and go
to Insert Citation and select the source.

and on the style, you want to.

• Citations and sources and bibliography are quite useful in adding information to the document
about the source whether be for a school project, A research or anything it helps you keep the

9. When and How would use Macros in Word?
Answer: Macros are codes in Visual basic language which can be created by recording the actions or by
writing the codes to perform quick actions in Word. See step by step instructions below to see how you

Overview
In Word, you can automate frequently used tasks by creating and running macros. A macro is a series of
commands and instructions that you group together as a single command to accomplish a task
automatically.

Macros can also be recorded or written and the language of the Macros is the Microsoft VBA.

You can access the feature by going to the View Tab and then click Macros and from there you can
create or record macros.

Recording a Macro means recording the steps you’re doing in the Word after hitting the record button
and word will create a code of instructions based on your actions.

You can assign the Macros to a button or a keyboard shortcut as per your requirement.

• Macros are quite useful in setting them up for a task that is going to repeated across the
documents but there is no easy way to do them but by doing a specific series of commands and
that is where Macros play a huge role in doing the task for us with minimal effort.

10.How to use Outline View in Microsoft Word to manage large project?
Answer: We can use the outline view from the View ribbon by clicking the Outline option from the views

Outline view helps us to access a large document in such a way that it can be devoid of heavy formatted
and shows in a basic structure so we can manage and edit the document without being bothered by
heavy design elements of the sheet.

• Click the View ribbon and then from the group View, you can select the Outline option to switch
the document to the outline view.

• Then the document will be shown to you in the Outline view and you can then edit the
document easily and not worried about any heavy formatting or objects.

11. How to compare multiple documents in Word?
Answer: We can use the compare feature from Review ribbon in order to compare multiple documents

Overview
Sometimes it happens that you have two versions of the same document and you want somethings from
a version show up in the other and that is when the Compare documents comes in handy and Word
loads both the documents and highlights changes so you can accept the changes you want and it would
do it as you need it to.

• You can use this feature by going to Review and then choosing the Compare option from the
compare group

• Now select the original and revised document

• Then it will show you all the changes highlighted and you can choose to select which you want
to keep

• This is a very helpful feature to work out big documents with minor changes and sometimes
there are changes on the documents you want to keep but want to remove some of them and
so this feature helps you get that right and resolves this problem.

12. When would you hide Ink in Microsoft Word and how would
you do it (Review tab)?
Answer: Inking on Word is a new and useful feature to highlight text with a stylus on touch screen
computing and that text is scribbled on top of the document so its not part of the document text and so
you can simply hide the same in case you don’t want to see the Inking elements.

Overview
Inking exist on Word to write directly on top of the document using your stylus and so scribbling
something on top of the document to highlight something or reference something and but when you
want the document to show as only presentation of the text or just want to remove all of that Inking on
top of the document, you can use this feature to hide all of it.

• Click the Review tab and then select the option Hide Ink from the Ink group

• This feature is helpful when you want to hide the Ink so as it to not show at this time but be
available on the document in case you need to see the Inking done previously.

13. How to track changes in Word?

Answer: You can track changes in Word by enabling Track changes from the Review ribbon and once
enabled word tracks all the changes made on the document from that point on.

Overview
This feature exists so users can see the changes made to the document, if you want to review what has
happened to the document from where you started from and how many changes you made to the
document this does the job well.

• When this feature is turned on, deletions are marked with a strikethrough, and additions are
marked with an underline. Different authors' changes are indicated with different colors.
• When this feature is turned off, Word stops marking changes, but the colored underlines and
strikethrough are still present in the document

• Click the Review ribbon and click Track Changes.

• Microsoft Word tracks the changed by marking the deletions by a strikethrough

• And the additions are reflected with underlines with text being a specific color

14. How to Open PDF file in Word
Answer: You can open PDF by opening the PDF file from word by the Open command from the File
ribbon, simply navigate to the PDF file and open it.

Microsoft Word programs include the ability to open and edit the PDF file and this feature has been
introduced given that the PDF has become a dominant document sharing system which works on almost
every operating system and keeps intact the format and Microsoft Included the ability to allow you to
open and edit it.

• Its quite simple to access it, all you need to do is go to File>Open

• Word will then show you the following menu and say that, now the PDF will be converted to the
Word and some elements may not translate properly.

• Click OK and that is it.

• If you want to some minor edit on the PDF or you don’t have a PDF software, word can do the
job for you
• You can convert your PDF to word in order to edit it and Word will do a good job getting you up
to speed without you having to create it from scratch.

15. How to remove distractions to edit full screen in Word
Answer: Enable the full screen by pressing Alt + V and then U to enter a full editing mode without
distractions on Word.

Overview
In order to remove all distractions and edit with just text visible you can enable the full screen editing
mode on word and this feature exists to make you focus on just the text and not all the things else on
the screen so to distract you.

Step by Step Instructions


In order to engage this mode all, you need to do is two simple keyboard combinations.

• First press Alt + V

• Then simple press U key and that is it and you document is now full screen editing mode
without any distraction and in order disengage this mode, simply press the escape key.

• The best way to utilize this feature is to enhance your focus on what you are writing and its not
productive to see all tools at all times so this will help you work with a distraction less Microsoft
word mode.

16. How to Create Table of Content in Microsoft Word
Answer: You can create the Table of Contents using the Table of Contents options under the References
ribbon.

• Navigate to the Insert ribbon and select the option Screenshot from the group Illustrations.

• You can select the screenshot of any active window as Word displays and word will add the
