A. The teacher will ask the following questions: different background knowledge.)
1. Do you help your mother in the kitchen?
How? (The pupils will observed the pictures being
presented)
2. Why do some objects get hot easily?
- So that the heat will not get through your
hands easily while using it with heat.
- So that it will heat up easily and can cook food
B. Show a picture of cooking utensils faster.
Ask: (Pupils answer may vary)
1. Why do cooking utensils have handles
made of wood or plastic?
2. Why are cooking utensils made of
metals?
3. How do you think heat transferred
from one object to another?
Say: The correct answer for that is what we will
know after performing this activity (The pupils will listen to the following
instructions given by the teacher)
2. Exploration

1. Setting of Standards a. The pupils will group themselves into three.

The teacher will set up the classroom in a way

that pupils can move and work freely. b. The pupils will use the given materials.

2. Group Activity
c. The pupils will listen to and follow the task
a. The teacher will have three (3) groups for the given by the teacher.
activity.

b. The teacher will give the following materials

to be utilized in the activity: pulverized crayon,
metal spoon, candles, matchsticks.

c. The teacher will give the task to follow for

each group to work on.

Task:
1. The teacher will let the pupils light the
candle with a matchstick / lighter.

2. Get a pulverized crayon and put it to the

metal spoon.

3. The teacher will let the pupils hold the

metal spoon and place it to the tip of the flame
of the candle.

4. The teacher will let each group to work on

with the activity and observe what will happen.

5. The teacher will give each group at least

1 whole sheet of manila paper where they can
write their observations and answer to the
different guide questions. The questions are as
follows: (The three groups will present their work)

1. What happened to the pulverized crayons

when it was exposed to heat?
2. Why do you think it melted? - The crayons melted.
3. If we continue to expose the spoon to the

flame, what do you think will happen to its spoon which caused crayons on it to
handle? melt.
3. What could be inferred from this activity?
- It will also be heated.
3. Explanation
a. Analysis of the result of the activity - Heat moves from hot object to cold
object.
The teacher will let each group to have a
reporting on their observations based on the
guide questions: (The pupils will listen to the concepts and new
topic being presented)
1. What happened to the pulverized crayons
when it was exposed to heat?
2. Why do you think it melted?

flame, what do you think will happen to its
handle?
3. What could be inferred from this activity?

b. Presentation
Say: As the spoon is heated, the crayons on top
of it melt. This shows that the heat coming from
the candle is transferred from the spoon to the
crayons. This is called the heat transfer through
solid mazterials which is the CONDUCTION.

c. Mastery of Concepts
Say: Heat is a form of energy associated with
motion of particles. It transfers between bodies
of different temperature. The transfer of heat
through solid materials is called Conduction.

a. The pupils will perform the activity given and

object or substance or from a substance to previous activity.
another by direct contact.
b. The pupils will use the given materials.
There are materials that allow heat to flow
through easily. We call them conductors. Metals
are good conductors. That’s why we use them
c. The pupils will listen to and follow the task
as cooking utensils because heat moves fast given by the teacher.
though the metal pan to the food. There are
materials through which heat passes slowly or
not at all. We call these insulators. Some
insulators are wood, plastic and ceramic. And
most of them were used as cooking utensils’
handle.

4. Elaboration/ Application

a. The teacher will let the learners perform

another activity as an application of the

concepts learned.

b. The teacher will give the following materials

to be utilized in the activity: mug, metal spoon,
hot water from a heater or dispenser.

c. The teacher will give the task to follow for

each group to work on.

Task:
1. The teacher will let the pupils fill a mug
with hot water.

2. The teacher will let them place a metal

spoon into the coffee mug.

3. The teacher will let them wait for five

minutes and will let them carefully feel the
exposed end of the spoon.
d. The pupils will pass their work after
4. The teacher will let the learners slightly answering the questions given and find out
touch the outside surface of the mug. whether it is correct or not.

5. The teacher will let each group to work on

with the activity and observe what will happen.
(Pupils answer may vary)
6. The teacher will give each group at least - The heat energy is transferred from
1 whole sheet of manila paper where they can hotter object to cooler object making it
write their observations and answer to the hot.
- Heat travels by conduction through a
different guide questions. The questions are as
direct contact.
follows:

1. What happened to the exposed end of the

spoon after five minutes?

2. What did you notice about the outside

surface of the mug when you touched it? Why?

3. Suggest ways to reduce the effect of heat on

the spoon so that we can avoid getting hurt
when we lift it out of the hot mug.

d. The teacher will check the work of each

group after they have finished answering the
questions by Consultation and Reveal Method.

5. Generalization

Ask:
1. What have you learned?
2. How is heat transferred from one object
to another?

3. How does heat travel by conduction?

IV. Evaluation

Direction: Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. What is the direction of heat transfer?

a. from hot to cold c. from cold to hot
b. from bottom to top d. from side to side
2. How is heat transferred in solid materials?
a. through convection c. through conduction
b. through radiation ` d. through vacuum
3. Which is good conductor?
a. metal c. ceramic
b. wood d. plastic
4. Which is good insulator?
a. metal spoon c. plastic ruler
b. gold ring d. metal pan

For item number 5 answer the following question briefly:

* Why do we need to use a pot holder when we are removing hot casseroles or any hot
cooking wares out of the stoves?

V. Assignment

Give at least 5 materials you can see at home that is a good conductor of heat.
