Expend4bles Synopsis

"The Expendables" had a simple enough concept by gather a bunch of '80s-era action cinema icons,
including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, and Mickey
Rourke, and bring them together for an old-school-style shoot-em-up in which they, along with such
current familiar faces (and pecs) as Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, and Steve Austin, joined
forces to blow things up.

In this movie, Stallone and Statham is starring as Barney Ross and Lee Christmas, respectively, as
well as Dolph Lundgren as the sniper Gunner and Randy Couture as the expert in demolitions called
Toll Road. A new addition to the cast is audience surrogate Easy Day, played by Curtis "50 Cent"
Jackson; CIA agent Gina, played by Megan Fox; former Expendable brought out of retirement Decha,
played by Tony Jaa; the son of Banderas's character Galan, portrayed by Jacob Scipio; and Marsh,
portrayed by Andy Garcia, Ross' long-time ally.

The plot is still centered around Ocelot when an army of goons led by arms dealer Rahmat (Iko
Uwais) have robbed one of Gaddafi's old chemical plants in Libya and stolen a bunch of nuclear
detonators for Ocelot, who decimated another squad of Barney's years ago. Unfortunately, Barney's
mission goes awry. Christmas ends up being booted from the group entirely after deviating from the
plan in an attempt to save him. The Expendables, however, have to go out to save the day once
again when it appears that the Ocelots are planning to start World War III between the U.S. and
Russia. This time around, Marsh is along for the ride, and Gina (Megan Fox) takes over the leadership
of the group, who also happens to be Christmas's girlfriend on/off.

Throughout the film, the action takes place primarily on a cargo ship decked out like a second-rate
laser tag arena. There, The Expendables are fighting an army of unpleasant guys who conceal their
faces inexplicably. If it hadn't been for the noticeable facial coverings, I wouldn't have pondered the
notion of the film duplicating stunt performers throughout these scenes. Something more
interesting than the innumerable replacement battles and shootouts was required. By far the most
absurd of the lot is Fox, who appears to be there to remind us of the once-promised all-female
"Expendabelles" spinoff and to demonstrate that she can accomplish anything her male co-stars can.

"Expend4bles" is a disgrace from start to finish, and the only thing to say about it is that it should
effectively end a series that has plainly outstayed its welcome. At least for the next decade.
