Keyboard Shortcuts and other handy tips.

YOU’RE KILLING IT!


Hopefully things are starting to click and the once-daunting After Effects is looking a little less scary. Here are some

more tips, tricks, and hotkeys from Lesson 2.

WORKING WITH AUDIO IN AE

Audio Scrubbing........................ Hold down on Command while moving CTI


Layer Markers........................... Control + 8 (or * key on Numeric Keypad)
Double-click to add notes to markers
Command + Click to delete markers
Audio Layer Waveform............. Select a layer, then Audio > Waveform (see above)

Audio Layers in AE have special controls specific to audio

Home.......................................... Moves CTI to start of comp


End.............................................. Moves CTI to end of comp
Option + Command + Home.... Moves Anchor Point to center of layer
Command + Home.................... Moves layer to center of comp

J................................................... Jump to previous visible keyframe (or marker)


K.................................................. Jump to next visible keyframe (or marker)

‘.................................................... Turns on/off Title & Action Safety

BRACKET HOTKEYS & LAYER ORGANIZATION

[................................................... Move start of layer to current time


]................................................... Move end of layer to current time

Option + [ .................................. Trim layer to start at current time


Option + ] .................................. Trim layer to end at current time

Command + [............................. Move layer down in the layer stack


Command + ]............................. Move layer up in the layer stack

Shift + Command + [................. Move layer to the bottom of the layer stack
Shift + Command + ]................. Move layer to the top of the layer stack

The front and rear edges of layers look kind of like square brackets. At least in theory.
