Cc: LPlaajies @salaa.ora.za
Dear Mr. Joel,
| trust this letter finds you well.
{As the 6th Administration draws to a close, the Office of the Solicitor-General is in the process
of finalizing a comprehensive State Litigation Report, which will span the entire period of the
current administration. This report is crucial for the handover to the 7th Administration and will
provide a detailed analysis of litigation trends and challenges faced by the State across all
levels of government: National, Provincial, and Local.
To ensure the report is thorough and reflects an accurate picture of the State's litigation
landscape, it is essential to include data on litigation matters within municipalities. Given
SALGA’s mandate and its pivotal role in supporting local government, we kindly request your

current status.
Financial Impact: Total legal costs incurred, including settlements and judgments.
3. Types of Claims: Breakdown of common types of claims (e.g. public liability, contractual
disputes, employment-related claims).
Access to Justice for All4. Outcomes: Summary of outcomes, including settlements, court judgments, and pending
matters,
5, Trends and Patterns; Any observable trends or patterns in municipal litigation over the
specified period.
The information provided will be integral in completing the State Litigation Report, which will
be tabled at the Forum of South African Directors-General (FOSAD) and subsequently
presented to Cabinet.
‘We understand the effort required to compile such comprehensive data and appreciate your
cooperation in this matter. Kindly submit the requested information by 03 July 2024 enabling
us to meet our reporting obligations timely.
