This report is crucial for the handover to the 7th Administration and will provide a detailed analysis of litigation trends and challenges faced by the State across all levels of government: National, Provincial, and Local. To ensure the report is thorough and reflects an accurate picture of the State's litigation landscape, it is essential to include data on litigation matters within municipalities. Given SALGA’s mandate and its pivotal role in supporting local government, we kindly request your assistance in furnishing a comprehensive list or dataset of al tigation involving municipalities over the past five years. The required data should cover: 4. Case Details: including the nature of the litigation, parties involved, case numbers, and current status. Financial Impact: Total legal costs incurred, including settlements and judgments. 3. Types of Claims: Breakdown of common types of claims (e.g. public liability, contractual disputes, employment-related claims). Access to Justice for All 4. Outcomes: Summary of outcomes, including settlements, court judgments, and pending matters, 5, Trends and Patterns; Any observable trends or patterns in municipal litigation over the specified period. The information provided will be integral in completing the State Litigation Report, which will be tabled at the Forum of South African Directors-General (FOSAD) and subsequently presented to Cabinet. ‘We understand the effort required to compile such comprehensive data and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
