Model Course Handout
Date: 02/08/2018

This document gives specific details regarding the course.

Course No. : BCAP2001

Course Title : Computer Architecture
Instructor-in-Charge : Mr.D.Damodharan

Course Description:

The course covers the basic principles of computer organization, operation and performance.
It also deals with embedded systems, peripheral devices, memory management, and processor
family evolution patterns. The course discusses the role of pipelining and multiple functional
units in processor design.

Scope & Objective:

At the end of the course student will be able to:
1.Understand the concepts of arithmetic operations on integer & decimal data, the input-
output process and memory management.
2. Be familiar with the Von Neumann architecture
3. Be familiar with the cost‐performance issues and design trade‐offs in designing and
constructing a computer processor including memory
4. Be familiar with the basic knowledge the design of digital logic circuits and apply to
computer organization

Student will be able to:

1.The ability to apply software engineering theory, principles, tools and processes, as well as
the theory and principles of computer science and mathematics, to the development and
maintenance of complex software systems.
2.The ability to design and experiment with software prototypes.
3.The ability to select and use software metrics.
4.The ability to participate productively on software project teams involving students from
both software engineering and other majors.
5.Effective communications skills through oral and written reports and software
documentation evaluated by both peers and faculty.
6.The ability to elicit, analyze and specify software requirements through a productive
working relationship with project stakeholders.
