Position: Fundraising & Outreach Coordinator Posting date: December 8, 2011 Starting date: Immediately Contact: Northend Greenway steering committee northendgreenway@gmail.com Northend Greenway Description The Northend Greenway Initiative is a citizens initiative with a vision for an attractive and safe bicycle and pedestrian path connecting neighborhoods in North Harrisonburg and the downtown district via public green space, easily accessible to all residents, including children, families, and those of low income. To this end, the Northend Greenway Initiative seeks to model the best practices in accessible and attractive public infrastructure so as to enable and motivate the use of affordable, healthy, sustainable, and safe transportation options in Harrisonburg. New Community Project Description New Community Project Harrisonburg (VA) is part of New Community Project (NCP), a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to the creation of sustainable systems that care for the earth; empower marginalized and impoverished people; educate and inspire; and which build the foundation for nonviolent lives. We work to transform both individuals and communities in three key areas we recognize as having the greatest impact: food, transportation, and the built environment. Fundraising Coordinator Position Description The Fundraising Coordinator will hold primary responsibility for raising monies for the planning and implementation of the Northend Greenway. This position will focus on lead donor fundraising, community outreach and fundraising campaigns, and accounting. This work will be done in collaboration with volunteers coordinating the Northend Greenway initiative and with New Community Project staff. The Fundraising Coordinator will be accountable to the Northend Greenway steering committee and to New Community Project. Specific responsibilities include: Initiating and managing lead donor relations and financial records Developing community outreach and fundraising campaigns Cultivating broad public interest and investment in the project Coordinating fundraising efforts within the larger frame of the citizens initiative Managing the email distribution list for campaigns and updates from the initiative Qualifications: Committed to bicycle and pedestrian transportation infrastructure development Demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse constituency, be self-motivated, and work well under pressure Ability to keep multiple projects organized at the same time Excellent oral and written communication skills Desired skills: Fundraising experience, particularly with lead donors for a multi-million dollar campaign Experience managing donor databases and financial records Community organizing experience Computer and social networking competency (Office; email distribution, Facebook, Twitter) Remuneration commensurate with experience.
