Mastering Opinion Writing
Hello, everyone!

Before we start our lesson today,


let's think about a few questions:

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Why?

What is the best movie ever? How come?

What is the yuckiest snack? Why do you say so?


Your answers were
all opinions.
Let's recall:
An opinion is what you think or believe about something.
It's your own personal idea or feeling about a topic or
question. It may not be the same as what others think,
and that's okay!
Today we will:

writing effectively

and other details
Study an example of an
opinion piece
Review: What is Opinion Writing?

A piece of writing wherein an author expresses their


thoughts/ feelings about a particular topic.

For example, an opinion writing topic could be:


"Recycling: the best way to save the Earth!"

How do you express an opinion?

You can use key words that signal that you are
expressing your personal feelings/thoughts, like:

for your opinion.
