USE OF FORCE REPORT

On January 6, 2021 at approximately 1200 hours; RO was on the center grassy panel on the West Front of the U.S.
Capitol. RO observed a large group of demonstrators cross a police line to enter the area of the U.S Capitol Inaugural
stage. Multiple Individuals in the group were heard shouting in a loud and angry manner to "take the stage" and "lake
back what belongs to the people". RO and other officers attempted to stop the large group but were met with negative
results. RO observed multiple individuals in the group throw full water bottles at the officers. RO and the other officers
ran to the area of the inaugural stage behind a metal gate to hold a police line. As the large group of demonstrators
approached the line the RO observed individuals gear up with goggles, gas masks and gloves. The demonstrators were
also shouting to "take over the building" and "take the stage apart". As the RO stood behind the metal gate; It was
observed multiple demonstrators began to break apart the fence and construction material. Demonstrators were
observed throwing metal material, batteries, bottles, power tools, batons, and cans towards officers. Demonstrators
also deployed OC spray towards the RO and multiple officers. RO used the department issued ASP baton to attempt to
block demonstrators from crossing the police line. RO struck multiple demonstrators as they attempted lo cross the
police line with force. RO attempted to strike assailants as trained in large musde group areas as a way to keep them
from crossing the police line or as they were assaulting the RO with kicks and punches. No injuries were reported to the
RO and the RO did not suffer injuries to report.
