Part 4 Listening

CRIME FICTION

Lots of people enjoy reading crime fiction which is basically stories of crime. Works of fiction
involving crime are various and they tend to include court cases, (1) _________ and many more.
These stories talk not only about the (2) ________ but the investigators as well as the victims.
Among the most famous crime fiction is the genre of investigative (3) ________ where the
protagonist needs to figure out who the murderer is.

One of the earliest recorded whodunnits is a story called The Three Apples. The story
involves a (4) _______ who is found dead in a chest. This story is unusual as the murderer is only
revealed by his guilt and not by the detective. There are many Chinese crime fictions that also
involve a (5) _________. Despite crime fiction in other languages appearing earlier, it wasn’t until

the most popular detectives of all time, Sherlock Holmes who has always cracked the (7)

period of the two world wars. Among the most famous authors was Agatha Christie who followed all

INFORMATION OVERLOAD

Information overload is when a person is either trying to understand something and

received. Basically, too much information can create (2) ________. Despite having access to large

Garbage Patch

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch or known as The Eastern Garbage or the Pacific Trash
Vortex, is a collection of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean. The garbage patch is made up of
rubbish that comes from coastal areas of both North America and Asia, as well as that from
(1)_________ that sail through the area. Due to the ocean (2) _________, the rubbish become
trapped and cannot escape. Rubbish from North America, Japan and other Asian (3)__________
compose mainly of plastic and the size of the garbage patch is huge. People tend to mistakenly

ocean and invisible for miles around. However, plastic breaks down into smaller pieces in (5)
_________ which called microplastics. The largest part of the garbage patch is made up microplastics

they enter the food chain and may end up on our plates! Next, larger pieces of plastic float on the

Teen Baker Champion Season 4

Raihanna Majid participated in the Teen Baker contest to meet her idol, Paul Hollywood, but she
