1. Introduction:
1.1 Use and Application:
Remote Radio Control Grabs are typically used for handling bulk material cargoes in quarry,
process and transportation applications, specifically ship to shore loading and unloading
application in ports and terminals are all classic examples where RRCG equipment moves high
volume cargoes of food stuffs and other goods, such as metal and aggregates, quickly and safely.
1.2 Features:
 The opening mechanism is controlled hydraulically by remote control so no need to strike the
jaws as would be the case with mechanical grabs.
 The degree of load release can be controlled incrementally for a precision pour.
 The deployment of hydraulics in the design saves cycle time and wear and tear on the crane,
making it both faster to use and cheaper to own.
 The power supply is integral to the grab. This special feature makes the Guven RRCG
unique. There are no wires or cables to maintain.
 The Guven RRCG is designed to close only on the ground or cargo, not it the air .
WARNING!!!
The operating area must be properly lit at all times. For safety, a 25m exclusion area must be
created around the working area and cleared of people where the grabs are working. Only trained
operators should be in support of operations. Any vehicles being used must not be occupied
during a discharging procedure with drivers safely outside the exclusion zone.

1.3 Compatible Types of Crane
 Mobile cranes, crawler cranes, harbour cranes, ship cranes, in fact any single wired
and double wired crane types.
 You must check the capacity of the crane relevant to the unladen weight of the grab
in addition to the cubic capacity and the density of the materials to be handled.

Aluminium powder all grains, fertilizers, plastics, cement, clinker, coal, pebbles, gravel,
sand, metal ores etc.. which have densities up to 2,5 kg/lt . on all puring metarials. Do not

3.Working
3.1. Before Working
 Grease all greasing points before working and apply it per 12 hours during operation
 Before using the grab, ensure that the valve between air fitler and tank + cylinder and
tank must all be in the HALF open position .
 Check the batteries are fully charged. If not, fit a spare fully charged battery.
 The plug between batteries and receiver must be connected. (Page 14, Drawing 3.0.)
 Turn to Clockwise to “START” on the remote control transmitter, to turn on.
 Release emernecy by turn clockwise
 Then Press “OPEN” (single touch) ready to open the grab.

3.2. Operation
3.2.1. Closing Grab
 Lift the crane and get the grab to open position.
 Press “CLOSE” (single touch), on the transmitter which means lock oil circle ,
 Put the grabs over the cargo and lower crane. Cylinder will closed
 Once the grab is onto the material allow the cylinder to close fully, slowly taking the strain
with the crane, this will take about 8 to 10 seconds
 Then start hoisting the grab which will now be closing whilst scooping up the cargo
 Once clear of the material, position the grab over the discharge location or bay.

3.2.2. Comfortable Opening
 To get the grab from close position to open position. (Unloading cargo)
 Press “OPEN 1/2” for 2 seconds to start opening comfortable, when pressing is stopped the
opening will stop automatically.
 To continue opening Press “OPEN 2/2” button(single touch). Toggle between “CLOSE”
(single touch) and “OPEN 2/2” (single touch) buttons to control the speed and distance the
jaws open, and the rate of discharge of the material.
 Once fully discharged, push “CLOSE” (single touch) button and return to first step.

 To get the grab from close position to open position. (Unloading cargo)
 Push “OPEN 2/2” button to open the grab (single touch). Toggle between “CLOSE” (single
touch) and “OPEN 2/2” (single touch) buttons to control the speed and distance the jaws open,

Wrong Usage!!!
ATTENTION!! If the operator always digs the same
area of cargo hold, will be big hole the try to pick up
sides.
The grab have to get around 30-45 degree angle
while pick up cargo, this using style consumpts wire
ropes faster.

3.3. Fixing End of the Operation
To put the grab to foundations, use the following procedure (Page 29 and 30, Drawing
3.12. and Drawing 3.13.)
 On the transmitter turn to “Stop” side to turn it off.
 Disconnect the socket (plug) between batteries and receiver
 Clean by pressured water, especially gears and etc.. after cargo operation. In case of cover the
gears (shells gear) will be problem in th future. Clean all cargo on grabs. Latest use fresh air to
clean salty water
 In case of move grab on horizontally valve between air filter and tank. Must be closed
 For storage on board or extended periods on land between use, the batteries, receiver and
remote must be kept in a safe, dry location.
 Please look at to appendix for storage dimensions
 It is good practice to charge the batteries up ready for further operation. When there are long
periods between use, the bateries must be checked regularly for charge in time for use. They
are checked as charging life as 30 days. But we suggest to charge batteries after 3-4 operations
and keep ready spare batteries in case af any failure, discharge of batteries.
If the power is reduced, due to standing, you need at least 6 to 8 hours charging time.

5.1. Greasing
 Before using, grease all joints (lubrication nipples) by Shell Alvania R2 type grese Use your
grease gun. (Page 41, Table 5.1.)
 Bearings, collars and ropes are vulnerable to corosion, particularly in applications in harbour
conditions where humid, salty air has a devastating effect on steel components (Page 44,
Drawing 5.2.)
 Failure to observe recommended lubrication procedures and maintenance schedules could
result in major component failure.
 You must lubricate fully every 12 hours of work and prior to storage. This applies to wires, all
bearing surfaces and wire guides. İnspect the wires closely for signs of damage.
 Especially, please make sure that all grease joints grease. During the greasing, grease should be
seen outside of the pins.

5.2. Wire Ropes
 Also keep greased wire ropes as well as lifting plate by Shell Malleus OGH or GL500 type
grease. Also check by eye status of wires, in case of any damage, replace by new one. (Page
41, Table 5.1.)
 Please check the wire ropes. If there is a problem about them, please change wire ropes.

room.
 Close the below ball valve between down chamber of cylinder and hydraulic block.
 Lower the crane hook, the cylinder will remain in upper posetion.
 Please open a little the mentioned valve and wait for lowering of cylinder itself which speed
must be 2minutes ( up to close), very slow lowering.
Back to step.no.1, Apply the airbleeding steps for 3-4times, the air must be bleeded from the
cylinder, maket he trial for grab
Second Way
 Put the grab to ground in open posetion.
 Press "close" button and lower the cylinder.
 There is a blind nut on the top of cylinder's upper chamber. (Page 43, Drawing 5.1. Part 47 and
48) unscrew it around 50% by spanner.
 Give command to crane operator to lift very very slow. You'll hear airbleeding voice.
 When you see to get out the oil from sides of blind nut, immediate stop the crane driver. And
screw the blind nut.
 We say that when the cylinder is down, the starts to lift up again, we expect the locking of
cylinder (starts closing) after max. 5cm. please measure it as well. İf more than 5cm, it means
stil air inside of cylinder.

5.6. Battery
 Check the charging level of batteries. If reduced, change with spares which have to be fully
charged. Use the charger provided. Batteries should be replaced with dry cell type batteries,
approximately every 2 years.
 After grabs used on board vessels ensure that receiver are taken out and kept in a dry location
to guard against oxidation. Ensure oil levels are always correct level when it is the half level of
oil pipe in system room. Also please disconnect connections of batteries after using of grabs
Battey Charging (Page 46, Drawing 5.3.)
 Charger: 220V – 50Hz AC.
 Check voltage., Two batteries connected in series to provide 24 V.
 “+” tongs to battery’s “+” side, “-“ tongs to batteries “-“ side.
 When the charger shows between 0,5 and 2A, “the battery is fully charged”
 Once charged up, turn off the charger and disconnect the tongs.

WARNING!!
Never allow the batteries to reduce less than 7volts themselves, they may not re-charge!

6. Problems and Solutions
Problem:
 The lips/jaws(mouth) stay 5-10cm open after closing,why?
Solution:
 After the oil is changed or the grab has been transported (usually long
journey),sometimes air becomes trapped in the system.
 Check the oil level, it might be low.
 Check the hoses for oil leaks.
 If the grab is parked when the cylinder is in “full open” posetion, ; If the crane
operator preses to “close-down” buton when the cylinder is fully closed, this is
main reason of air create on hydraulic system (Page 16, Drawing 3..1)
Problem:
 To remove the air from the oil ?
Solution:
 First to check the oil in the system, most probably need airbleeding from cyliner,
please follow below instructions please take open posetion the grab and put to
ground, do not lower the cylinder and press “open-up” buton and lift the cylinder
up to top. Open the system room and see the transparent oil level hose, height of oil
must be 10-15cm in that situation. oil is less, add the oil and obtain 10-15cbm
height of oil. If oil is ok, please pass to below step as “airbleeding”

Problem:
 The grab does not open?
Solution:
 Check the capacity of batteries. Selenoid valve has emergency touch for opening
 Check connections and the signal from the remote control unit and that its
batteries are functioning correctly.
Problem:
 Remote Contorol failure?
Solution:
 At first check all batteries on receiver and transmitter.
 To mix frequencies is impossible, there are more then 4 billion diffrent code
 Look at the users manual of remote Control
 Please contact with us by e-mail if you cannot clear it
Problem:
 There is oil in the housing (system room) below the ram?
Solution:
 Oil tank overfilled with oil., clean housing syatem room and go on working Do not
add more oil after cleaning. After that it should not re-occur

7.0.Table of Maintenance and Operation

(CAN BE COPIED FOR MAINTANCE WORKERS)
Mainteance & Inspection table– before using of grabs

If applied, tick, pass to next one
Check & inspect visually damages on grab
Check the wire ropes visually, in case of any serious damage, replace
it by new ones, Apply greasing to wire ropes by Shell Malleus OGH or
GL500 or equivalent (See oil compare table as well)
All the grease points must be greased and kept covered by Shell
Alvania R2 or equivalent grease (See oil compare table as well)
Two exixting valve must be opened in system room, look at be
carefuly
Check charging level of batteries before using (see charging), if less
charge, use charger to re-charge
If the batteries and remote control device is take out to warehouse or
storage, install on grab
Plug in the plug between batteries and remote control device
Check oil level. Oil level has to be ¾ in small transparen hose. If
reduced, refill by Shell Tellus T22 or Morlina10 or equivalent (See oil
compare table as well)
Make trial the selenoid valve as manually by emergency open-close
arm 10-15times to warm up
On transmiter, turn to full clockwise only start up
Fit the masterlink to crane hook.
Observe the SWL of crane and cargo density
Now the grab is ready to oprate

Take to parking the grabs and
secure
