e-Learning on Disaster Risk Management by NIDM,New Delhi


The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India is offering e-Learning courses on Disaster Risk Management in collaboration with the World Bank(GFDRR) Washington. The aim of this Programme is to raise the level of Awareness and Preparedness as well as to enhance analytical skills and professional competencies of distant key stakeholders in different areas of Disaster Risk Management and Mitigation. Why to join NIDM e-learning Courses? Courses are designed specifically to build competencies of disaster management professionals, development practitioners and general public. Beneficial for those who are not able to attend or does not have much time to attend face to face programmes. Flexi-time and flexi-space in course activities Courses are free from any face to face discussion or appearance in the final examination. The online Discussion Forum facilitate participants to share their views, experiences, documents, images and videos Participants can receive Discussion Forum entries in their personal e-mail accounts. The success in the course largely depends on certain parameters like completion of Personal Profiles, Country Profile, participation in the discussion forum, timely submission of Assignments and End of the Course Projects etc.

About National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) is one of the pioneer institutes under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India which has been mandated to promote capacity building interventions in Disaster Risk Management (DRM). Since its inception, the Institute has been proactive in raising the level of Awareness and Preparedness in dealing with disasters and emergency situations in the country, as well as making DRM education accessible to people across different level of stakeholders. About GFDRR Established in 2006, the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) is a partnership of 36 countries and 6 international organizations committed to helping developing countries reduce their vulnerability to natural hazards and adapt to climate change. The partnerships mission is to mainstream disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) in country development strategies by supporting a countryled and managed implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA).

e-Learning Courses on Offer


There are two main categories of online courses being offered by the NIDM - Basic and Specialized. The Basic Course (Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Framework) is the introductory course on disaster risk management. Successful completion of this course allows participants to enroll in the subsequent 8 specialized courses. The training calendar for the year 2011-12 has 15 courses on offer which are as under:-

The Basic Course deals with fundamental concepts of Disaster Risk Management and is open for all those who are interested in acquiring knowledge on Disaster Management, Mitigation, Prevention, Preparedness etc. Specialized courses deal with some of the specific focus areas related to DRM.
