Nayeem Bhai bio for Man Of The Year

Nayeem himself, is a work in progress, as Nayeemul Islam Khan is constantly busy being reborn. The essence of Nayeem is , his hunger for change , to become the best of himself at any given moment and then transform , remake himself once again and in so doing also transform the society and culture in which he lives. He is now working on his latest project, Our Time, an English daily that is scheduled to hit the stands In October. Our Time is going to be published in association with International Herald Tribune, the global edition of The New York Times, the largest circulated daily in the world which is going to celebrate its 125th year of publication in 2012. Our Time in association with IHT is expected to be Bangladeshs first ever World class daily and would give our readers daily exposure to a Global daily with our local perspective. This is not the first time Nayeem has taken the initiative to revolutionize the newspaper industry. Nayeemul Islam Khan has this habit of revolutionizing the Newspaper industry of Bangladesh. He first did it with Khoborer Kagoj, a Weekly, that presented our readers with an exposure to an international standard views based journalism on a weekly basis, where writers from both Bangladesh and India regularly contributed with columns. He then moved on to bring out and edit Daily Ajker Kagoj, the epoch changing Daily of Bangladesh since its independence. With its new style of reporting, treatment, layout, analysis, views and contemporary usage of language , Ajker Kagoj redefined the mainstream journalism in Bangladesh and the readers loved it. Back in early 90s of the last century , Nayeemul Islam Khan was well ahead of his time and gave the readers of Bangladesh their first taste of new journalism, still at it nascent stage even in the West. All the mainstream Bangladeshi dailies followed his lead. Starting from Nayeems next project Bhorer Kagoj, to the now number one Daily of Bangladesh , Prothom Alo. All these dailies are born out of Ajker Kagoj and are still carrying its legacy. Nayeems revolutionizing did not stop there. In the beginning of 21st century, he brought out and edited Daily Amader Shomoy, the newspaper of the masses. Affordable by anybody and everybody, this new daily ushered yet another new era in Bangladeshi News paper industry. An hardcore reporting based daily, that instantly became popular among the class of readers who were never used to

reading a newspaper, let alone buying one daily, has been hailed by all quarters for its regular publication of scoops and exclusives.

Today, Nayeem continues to revolutionize the newspaper industry with the publication of Daily Amader Arthoniti, a business daily. He has also been the pioneer in bringing out a number of specialized weeklies and magazines ranging from media and current affairs to literature , fashion, and entertainment. But Nayeemul Islam Khans contribution cannot be limited only in the areas of newspaper contents, and marketing. He also revolutionized the newspaper industry by making it more gender sensitive. He created wider opportunities for women to come in to the profession of journalism thus making both the presence and visibility of a large number of women media professionals more common place in our media industry. A popular talk show guest in the national TV channels, Nayeem has a large group of loyal followers among the TV audience, especially among the younger generation , who love his unorthodox, often out of the box yet logical and sound analysis on various current affairs issues . With his Journalism research, development and training centre, BCDJC, Nayeemul Islam Khan has also transformed the whole media industry by developing the capabilities of a whole generation of media professionals who now pervades in both electronic and print media of the country. As a trainer , he has contributed in development of capabilities and skills in hundreds of media activists and professionals in the last two decades. He is also the founder of Department of Journalism and Media studies at Eastern University and worked as a Professor at Stamford University. He has done numerous researches and consultancy works both in home and abroad, participated in seminars and conferences and published. Edited and written more than 50 important works in the areas of , journalism , media, gender and development. Nayeemul Islam Khan is one of the most vocal and perhaps the pioneer in the media activism in Bangladesh and his role in upholding media freedom, freedom of speech and protecting both journalists and their rights are exemplary.
