No 9: Thursday 15th December 2011

Dear Parents/Carers
It has been a busy but festive end to the term. Cherry Class took their families to Forest School to share with them the story of the first Christmas. Maple and Ginkgo participated in a fabulous performance of "Don't Forget the Manger" which told the nativity story through words and song. Willow and Oak class sang beautifully as they shared the Spirit of Christmas round the world, which made a lovely end to the term and our topic "Where in the World". The Christmas Fair was a big success thanks to all the hard work of our SCPA and the children told me they really enjoyed it. I would like to thank all our families for supporting the children and sharing in this special time with us. On behalf of the Staff and Governors I would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.

Carol Phillips Acting Headteacher

Countryfile to feature Fairford Education Charity

The work of Gloucestershire-based education charity the Ernest Cook Trust is to feature on the popular TV programme Countryfile over Christmas. Countryfile presenter Ellie Harrison and camera crews spent a day filming on the trusts Fairford Estate last week (Dec 6th). The programme will be broadcast on BBC1 at 8pm on Wednesday December 28th. The programme comes just as the charity prepares to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee in 2012. It will tell the story of the charitys founder, philanthropist Ernest Cook a grandson of travel agency founder Thomas Cook - who launched his trust in 1952. Countryfile, which is watched by around eight million people, will also feature the trusts work today in caring for the country estates Cook bequeathed and in helping children to learn from the land. During filming presenter Ellie Harrison, who was brought up in Gloucestershire, took part in a Forest School session with children from St Christophers CE Primary School in Langford, near Lechlade. The charitys Director Nicholas Ford said: We had a really great day out on our Fairford Estate filming with the Countryfile team. This is such a coup for the Ernest Cook Trust, particularly as we prepare to celebrate our 60th year. The Ernest Cook Trust maintains and cares for 22,000 acres of landed estates in five English counties. The trust also runs free countryside education programmes for schools which are growing year-onyear. Last year the charity welcomed over 16,700 schoolchildren to education centres on its estates in Gloucestershire, Dorset and Leicestershire. And each year it donates around 1.5 million to cultivate childrens interest in the countryside and environment, in the arts, and in raising standards in reading, writing and maths.
