About the Program
CanSkate is Skate Canadas learn-to-skate program
recommended for children age 6 and older. The Can
Skate program focuses on the development of six
fundamental movements organized in six stages of
learning. The skills are arranged in progressions, from
very simple to the more complex. Each stage has a pri-
mary focus. Once the skills on each stage are mastered,
a badge is awarded.
These skills will prepare your child for whatever path
they choose, be it fgure skating, hockey, ringette or
to simply be able to skate on the lake. Lessons are
given in a group format and led by an NCCP certifed
professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted
by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their
own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching
aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create
a fun environment and promote learning. CanSkate is
the feeder program to all other Skate Canada Skating
Programs, and is presented by BMO Financial Group, re-
fecting their commitment to grassroots development.

December is an exciting time of the year for our stu-

the world as they explore how diferent counties, like
Argentina, Germany, Philippines, Denmark and Mexico,
celebrate Christmas.
Our three-year-old classes will focus on Canadian
Christmas celebrations by sharing their families holiday

learn about healthy nutritional choices by involving them-
selves in making recipes involving whole foods and herbs.
As we continue to go forward through the year we look
ahead to many exciting events and refect upon the great
activities already completed. Students participated in a
whole school feld trip where they learned about the ocean
in November as well as students from grade 3 and 4 en-
joyed swimming lessons for an entire week. Upcoming
activities include Zumba, Canadiana Musical Theatre and
a winter cultural celebration . Students will also continue
to have an opportunity for monthly Adoration of the Eu-
charist. Our goal is to continue to deliver a strong academic
program supported by our focus on wellness. This is in part-
nership with home, and the St. Bonaventure parish.
On behalf of all the staf and students at St. Boniface, we
would like to wish everyone a happy and blessed Christmas.

Mrs. Killam spent the month of November teaching
our preschool children about colours, shapes and dino-

a precious class photo with each child.
Now everyone is eagerly looking forward to the holiday
season and the excitement that this joyful time brings.
With careful guidance, our little elves are busy creating
wonderful crafts to decorate their homes and thought-
ful Christmas gifts for their parents! HO HO HO!
Before taking some time of with their families, our 3

This last preschool event of 2011 will be flled with
crafts, songs, and Christmas cheer. Of course a jolly ol
soul will make a surprise visit to the party with a little

November was a time to remember, refect and contribute
for our students.
Poppies hung throughout the school while under-
standing grew in our students. Our Remembrance Day
assembly was a time for us all to take a moment and
remember all that has been given and all that we have
received. Lest we forget
Alien Inline Skating rolled into our school and the gym
transformed into a speed skating track. Students and
teachers laced up and had a great time receiving in-
struction on rollerblading techniques. The two week
event gave students an opportunity to participate in a
safe environment and learn an easy fun way to incorpo-
rate activity into their families.
The robotics club was constructed and met with over-
whelming popularity. Using Lego mind storms students
take math and science beyond the imagination. The
weekly group builds, creates and grows the future and
its robots.
Got Goat? Demonstrating the virtues of our schools
Circle of Courage, students have shown us the power
and impact of giving. The student lead fundraiser col-

It added up to a clever initiative. During our Math Night,
parents were the students and had an opportunity to
learn how math has changed since they were in school.
Students pitched a tent and took learning to the great
outdoors. In early November grade 5/6 students went
to outdoor school at Kamp Kiwanis.
P.J Day! The Student Voice special day was fun and
cozy! Everyone wore their favorite pajamas to school.

Quest Theatre residency will be taking place at St.
Philip from Dec. 9-15. All students from kindergarten
to grade 6 will be involved. The Quest residency is en-
titled Alligator Pie and the Paper Bag Princess and is
a one-week, curriculum-enriching theatrical event.
The students will be led through a theatrical presen-
tation of stories and poems by two of Canadas favorite
writers for young people - Robert Munsch and Dennis
Lee. The residency is about imagination and creativity.
The experience will build on the skills students have
acquired through storytelling and public presentations,
and will further spark the love of reading. On Dec. 15 we
will showcase the learning experience at 1:30pm and
6:30pm.
December 1 is the date for the annual St. Philip Bake
Sale. Held during the evening of parent/teacher inter-
views, this fundraiser ofers many homemade goodies
and treats.
On December 7, St. Philips Choir will perform at Sing &
Skate at Olympic Plaza.
St. Philip will once again assemble Christmas hampers
in December for the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Bo-
naventure Church. Every year we receive many gener-
ous food donations from families in our school to help
those less fortunate during the holiday season. Thank
you in advance for your generosity and to all the volun-
teers who make this project happen.
School will be dismissed for Christmas break at noon on
Friday Dec. 23. We will return to class on Monday Jan. 9.
Merry Christmas!
The children are currently enjoying the theme of Magic
and Make Believe, which explores Nursery Rhymes,
Fairy Tales and modern twists on many of the old classic
favourites. This is a unit rich in imaginary play, rhyming
and various types of storytelling. It is a wonderful op-
portunity for parents to read to their children. Many of
the stories such as The 3 Little Pigs are ideal for retell-
ing without the book but told over and over again in
the childs own words. Children love to add the repeti-
tive parts of the narrative or predict when the next part
of the story will come.

November was a time for refection and celebration
of the sacrifces made by our men and women of the
armed forces as well as their families. Our children hon-
ored our veterans by collecting non-perishable food
items and delivering them to our local legion. It is always
rewarding to see our children expand their social em-
pathy skills and work hard to better the lives of those
less fortunate. On November 9, our school celebrated
Remembrance Day with a special ceremony to which
parents were invited.
We are still diligently raising funds to build our new play-
ground. Our goal is to provide a safe place for children
attending our school and those within the local com-
munity to play and have fun. It is never too late to make
a contribution; be it time or money, corporate or private
as we are always looking for assistance in bettering our
community!

The coughs and colds of fall and winter can be distress-
ing and limit your ability to enjoy life. Sometimes, they
can linger on and on and the temptation is to dive for
an antibiotic in hopes to stop symptoms from worsen-
ing or shorten the duration. This rarely works, and risks
creating bacteria that become resistant to them. Saving
antibiotics for when they are really needed, instead of
using them just in case may ensure they work when
we need them to. There are natural ways to keep colds,
fu and sore throats at bay. Often these bugs are viral,
which must be overcome and defeated by your own im-
mune system. In the appropriate circumstances there
are a range of herbal medicines and nutritional supple-
ments that can support your immune system to work
more efectively and ef ciently, helping to safely reduce
the uncomfortable symptoms associated with colds
and coughs.
Stage 1: Infammation
Colds typically begin with heat and dryness a dry,
sore throat, dry, stufy nose and sinuses, a dry cough and
fever. Its important at this stage to get as much rest as
possible and drink plenty of fuids, ideally water or herb-
al teas. Your immune system has already initiated a reac-
tion to the invading virus and many of the symptoms
you experience are the result of your immune system
working and yes this may feel uncomfortable for you
and the virus! Taking something to suppress symptoms
at this stage so you can soldier on with work or play is
not the best solution. The best thing you can do
for yourself and everyone else is stay home and
rest. Echinacea and andrographis are efective
at this stage along with vitamin c and zinc.
Stage 2: Mucus
This point of the cold is where you blow your
nose again and again, and its perfectly normal
and natural for mucus to change color. A change
to green-yellow does not mean you necessarily
have a secondary bacterial infection or require
antibiotics. Mucus associated with bacterial in-
fection is usually a striking fuorescent yellow.
A very wet-sounding cough when frst waking
from sleep is from mucus dripping down the
back of the throat while lying down and accu-
mulating at the top of the airways. The cough
refex is triggered and helps to move it up and
out, preventing it from entering the lower air-
ways. A quick listen to the chest by a health pro-
fessional will identify whether a cough is caused by a
chest infection or a runny nose dripping backwards.
There are herbal medicines to help dry and reduce mu-
cus production, a favorite is golden seal.
Road to Recovery
Theres no truth to the myth that echinacea is not efec-
tive or safe to give longer term. Echinacea does not de-
plete the immune system or result in your body becom-
ing tolerant to it; in fact, echinacea works best when
given over a longer period of time.
The addition of astragalus, particularly if youre sus-
ceptible to catching colds can help to minimize your
chances of getting sick. However, frequent colds and fu
should be assessed as to why the susceptibility rarely
it is the environment more specifcally it is something
with in the individual that allows cold and fu to take
hold. Poor digestion, stress, high sugar consumption,
specifc system imbalances prevent the immune system
from operating efectively.
Products containing ginseng may be benefcial in pre-
venting and treating colds/fu due to stress or overwork.
Children prone to viral infections may be mineral def-
cient including iron. Most colds and fu can be safely
and efectively treated at home using herbs, and sup-
plements.

Janelle Eisler, Bachelors of Human Kinetics: Exercise Science
While some of us like to stay indoors cuddled next
to the fre on those cold winter days, others like to go
outside and play. For skiers, snowboarders and hockey
players, winter time is primetime.
While the sun is still shining and the temperature is still
above zero it is a great idea to start your strength train-
ing program for winter activities. A proper skiing, snow-
boarding, hockey strength training program should
focus on these areas:
Warm Up: A 5-10 minute cardiovascular warm up such
as walking or jogging is vital. A good rule for intensity
is the Talk Test. When you are walking or jogging
during your warm up, you should be able to hold a
conversation - but just barely.
Stretching is an integral part of any strength training
program. Dynamic stretching should be completed
prior to weight training and includes things like high
knee skipping or leg swings. Static stretching should
be completed after your weight training and should
focus on all the muscles that will be targeted during
your workout. Static stretches should be held for at
least 30 seconds.
Lower body weight training exercises should focus
mainly on your quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteal
muscles - the primary muscles involved in skiing,
snowboarding, and hockey. Increased strength in
these muscles can lead to increased performance on
the slopes or ice and decreases the risk of ligament,
tendon, and knee injuries and muscle strains.
Core strength; increasing your core strength will help
increase your balance and stability and will help pre-
vent injuries by decreasing your risk of falling.

Shaws Meadow is one of the most distinctive areas
of Fish Creek Park and the unique landscape features
boreal forest, wetlands, and rolling hills. William Shaw
established the woolen mill in the area of Fish Creek
Provincial Park now known as Shaws Meadow. Shaw
was a true pioneer and his woolen mill is not only
credited as being Albertas frst industry, but also part
of the reason for Calgarys early growth. The mill pro-
duced blankets, fannel, material for clothing, and other
woolen products. In the 1890s, his wife Helen, opened
up a woolen store on 8

fully sold warm clothing to prospectors heading north
in search of gold. Shaw also installed a telephone line
using barbed wire fencing to transmit information
between the mill and the store downtown.

Cold weather
safety
Alberta Health Services EMS responds to many cold weather related emergencies every
winter. Simple actions such as dressing appropriately and anticipating sudden weather
changes can help keep you both warm and safe this season.
Hypothermia
Hypothermia is abnormally low body temperature (less than 34C as compared to
normal body temperature of about 37C).
People suffering hypothermia may act inappropriately with uncharacteristic
stumbling, mumbling, and fumbling, as their body temperature continues to lower.
Early recognition and prompt medical attention is crucial. Left untreated,
hypothermia may progress to coma and death.
Call 9-1-1. Dont forget to protect yourself from the factors that originally lead to
the patients situation.
Gentle re-warming should start as quickly as possible including: removal of wet or
constrictive clothing, covering with blankets or sleeping bags, and protecting the
patient from further heat loss (wind, moisture and contact with cold surfaces).
Frostnip
Frostnip occurs when skin is
extremely cold, but not frozen. It
commonly affects the ears, nose,
cheeks, fingers and toes.
The skin appears red but also
turns to white when pressed. It
may feel numb to the touch.
When treated promptly, frost-
nipped skin will heal without
complication.
Gently re-warming the affected
area in a warm environment is
advised.
Frostbite
Frostbite is when skin becomes
so cold, the skin and underlying
tissue freeze completely.
It may look white and waxy and
will feel hard to the touch.
Treatment begins with removal
from the cold environment and
placing the affected area in
warm, not hot, water (about
41C) until re-warmed.
Seek further medical attention as
required.

stumbling, mumbling, and fumbling, as their body temperature continues to lower.
Early recognition and prompt medical attention is crucial. Left untreated,
hypothermia may progress to coma and death.
Call 9-1-1. Dont forget to protect yourself from the factors that originally lead to
the patients situation.
Gentle re-warming should start as quickly as possible including: removal of wet or
constrictive clothing, covering with blankets or sleeping bags, and protecting the
patient from further heat loss (wind, moisture and contact with cold surfaces).
Frostnip
Frostnip occurs when skin is
extremely cold, but not frozen. It
commonly affects the ears, nose,
cheeks, fingers and toes.
The skin appears red but also
turns to white when pressed. It
may feel numb to the touch.
When treated promptly, frost-
nipped skin will heal without
complication.
Gently re-warming the affected
area in a warm environment is
advised.
Frostbite
Frostbite is when skin becomes
so cold, the skin and underlying
tissue freeze completely.
It may look white and waxy and
will feel hard to the touch.
Treatment begins with removal
from the cold environment and
placing the affected area in
warm, not hot, water (about
41C) until re-warmed.
Seek further medical attention as
required.

REINDEER FACTS REINDEER FACTS
REINDEER FACTS
While these animals may not be able to soar through the skies
without the help of the jolly fellow in red, there are some inter-
esting facts about reindeer:
Reindeer reside in the Arctic north. They can be found in North
America, Asia & Europe
These animals are cousins of the caribou, which are larger
than reindeer
Reindeer can pull a full sleigh at a speed of 12 15 miles per
hour
Reindeer and caribou are the only deer where males, females,
and calves produce antlers. Like other deer, they shed their
antlers each year
Reindeer hair is extremely dense so that the animals can sur-
vive in the Arctic. This thick coat allows the animals to lay on
snow without melting it and getting wet
Reindeer have large feet in relation to their body size, which
helps them walk on snow

Establishing a relationship with your veterinarian is
crucial to the health and well being of your pet.
Many people associate a trip to the vet as something
that is only required when a pet is ill, however regu-
lar veterinary appointments are essential to your pets
health. Scheduling routine appointments to get ser-
vices such as vaccinations, wellness exams, parasite
treatment and prevention, heartworm prevention and
dental care is important as these services help to avoid
health problems in the future.
As our pets age more quickly than we do, they become
middle aged in a few short years. Because of this, their
health issues can also develop and progress much
faster. Missing appointments means missed opportuni-
ties to discuss medical concerns with your veterinarian.
There is now a risk to your family member as you are
not able to work with your vet to identify and address
potentially serious health issues.
It is easier and more economical to prevent a health
problem than to treat it. Your pets life may depend
on it.

It can be intimidating to fnd just the right veterinarian
for your pet. It is a lot like choosing a doctor for your-
self. You want to have someone with a great table-side
manner, good animal handling skills and someone who
you like and trust with your pet. Your pet is a member of
your family and you want to have complete confdence
in the veterinarian you choose.
Choosing a clinic to take your pet to can be based on
many diferent reasons. You may like the location, a
friend or family member highly recommends it, or you
may fnd the prices for services reasonable. Determine
what your needs and wants are in a vet and a veteri-
nary hospital and this will help to build a better client
veterinarian relationship.
Here are a few items you will want to consider to help
make your decision:
Hours the practice is operational, availability of after-
hour services, and whether 24 hour emergency care is
provided.
What services are ofered, from routine physical exams
to surgeries to boarding capabilities and inquire about
the fees associated with each.
Make sure you are comfortable with the support staf
as well. A friendly, attentive staf reassures you that
your pet will get the best possible care.
Whatever the reason you base your decision on, make
sure you feel comfortable with the clinic, the staf and
most important, the veterinarian you will be working
closely with.
The Calgary Humane Society understands the vitally
important role that veterinarians and preventative care
play in keeping pets healthy. As part of the adoption
package, new owners receive a complimentary vet visit
that allows an appointment within the frst ten days of
adoption. We understand that you took the time to se-
lect just the right pet for you and your family. We want
to provide pet owners the opportunity to continue to
work with veterinarians to ensure their pets well being.
CHS provides this free exam as a stepping-stone to a
life-long client veterinary relationship that is neces-
sary for the health of your pet. It is the responsibility of
an owner to continue to provide medical care and to
treat our pets as a member of the family.

Hanging a Christmas stocking on the freplace mantel
on Christmas Eve is a tradition that began in Germa-
ny, and has been adopted by many people in Canada
and the U.S. Since many homes do not have freplaces,
stockings are hung in almost any location.
Traditional practice was to reserve the stocking for fve
gifts that stimulate each of the fve senses:
something to eat, like fruit or candy
a toy or other item that makes a noise (including nuts
to crack)
a visually pleasing item like jewellery, cuf-links, a co-
louring book
something tactile, like modelling clay, a soft toy, or a
pair of socks
a fragrant item such as bubble-bath, cologne, scent-
ed candles, etc.
Originally, children used one of their everyday socks,
but eventually, special Christmas stockings were cre-
ated for this purpose.
Many families create their own personalized Christmas
stockings, with each family members name stitched
into the stocking. Creativity abounds with stockings
some are hand-knit or crocheted, quilted, or appliqud,
large and small.

The Christmas season is a busy time of year for holiday
shoppers and car prowlers alike. The Calgary Police Service
suggests taking a few simple preventive measures to help
protect your vehicle from being broken into or even stolen.
You can make your vehicle less attractive to thieves by:
taking your purse or wallet and locking your doors;
not leaving your vehicle running unattended. This is an
invitation to steal your vehicles contents or the vehicle
itself;
storing valuables and shopping bags out of sight;
keeping your shopping with you (if you drop it of at
your vehicle and then return to the store or mall, it can
alert thieves that there may be something worth steal-
ing in your vehicle). If you need to drop of your shop-
ping, move your vehicle to a diferent parking spot be-
fore going back into the stores;
taking removable stereo faces with you when you
leave the vehicle;
not leaving CDs in your car, as they are untraceable if
stolen; and
not leaving anything in your vehicle overnight.
Shopping centre parking lots are common areas for car
prowling and theft. Many malls employ security guards
to deter potential thieves. You can further decrease your
chances of becoming a victim by parking in a well-lit
area and using an anti-theft device such as a car alarm
or steering wheel locking device. Prowlers who see that
your car is protected are likely to move to a car without
security features.
If you become a victim of a car prowling, its important
to call the police immediately, regardless of the extent
of loss or insurance coverage. These incidents are rarely
isolated, and thieves often work for several days or
weeks in a row. Early information can help police iden-
tify areas of concern and catch the culprits.
To report an incident, visit your local district ofce. Dis-
trict phone numbers can be found on the Calgary Police
Service Website at www.calgarypolice.com/districts.
You can also call the Calgary Police Service non-emer-
gency number at 266-1234 and provide police with as
much information as you can: where and when the in-
cident occurred, what damage was done and what was
taken (including a list of serial numbers and descrip-
tions of the stolen items).

If you could learn a simple, painless, and even fun way
to save for your next pleasurable purchase such as a big
screen TV, vacation, or toy would you be interested?
There are only two steps required to saving more mon-
ey than you thought possible. The frst is to put your-
self on a cash diet for all your incidentals like cofee,
eating out, gas, and any other small purchases. At the
beginning of the week, go to the instabroke machine
and take out your weekly allotment of cash. After that
leave your plastic, debit and credit cards, in your wallet,
spare Change
or better yet, leave them at home. You cant use them if
they arent easily accessible.
Second, pay for everything using only bills. At the end of
the day, put all your change into a jar you have labeled
with a picture of your future purchase, to help keep
yourself motivated. Toonies, loonies, quarters, dimes,
nickels, and even pennies add up very quickly when we
arent paying attention.
In a very short period of time you will fnd this very
simple, painless act of saving is both fun and enjoyable.
For added motivation you might want to create a chart
(for example: a thermometer) that shows your fnancial
progress towards your goal. It is amazing how excited
you can get just seeing yourself getting closer to your
reward.
Start today and see how quickly you can go from squir-
reling spare change away to enjoying the fruits of your
eforts.
If saving money is wrong, I dont want to be right.

The short, dark days of winter dont have to be dreary
now is the time to celebrate the indoor season with some
easy and favourite plants. Not all of ces have ideal light,
but some plants can do very well under fuorescent light-
ing. These popular houseplants will transform your of ce
from stark white to instantly appealing and comfortable.
Each does well in low light or under fuorescent lighting,
but keep in mind that all plants need some natural light to
stay healthy and beautiful.
HANGING
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)
One of the best plants for removing formaldehyde released
from carpet and other materials in our homes and of ces.
It likes bright indirect light; preferably a northern exposure.
This plant is perfect for the of ce because it does very well
under fuorescent lights.
Heartleaf Philodendron (Philodendron scandens) also
known as the Sweetheart Plant.
There are two kinds of philodendron, the upright and the
trailing. For the of ce I recommend the trailing variety.
They dont mind being kept in a small pot and they are
very lovely hanging in a north facing window or sitting on
a bookshelf.
Spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
I have mine hanging over the hutch on my desk. It is quite
full and lush and has really cool spiderettes hanging down.
They prefer natural but not direct sunlight.
UPRIGHT
Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii)
This elegant plant is at the top of the list for removal of tox-
ins such as formaldehyde, ammonia and carbon monoxide
from indoor air. The foliage is attractive with long dark-
green, deeply veined leaves. It grows up to three feet tall
and will do well in medium to low light.

Please check the month the ad will run:

Ad (please print): __________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________________________
As many small home business operators have
already learned, we can no longer publish ads in the
Bugle Bargains at bargain prices that really belong as
Display Ads in the body of the Bugle, and help defray
its publishing cost. Great News Publishing is pleased
to ofer a Business Classifed Ad for $32 per month. We
encourage all small home-based businesses such as
music teachers, tutors, handymen, estheticians, accoun-
tants, etc. to support the Bugle and your community
by taking out a Display Ad for your for-proft services.
All occupations, which generate an income, such
as Condo rental, house cleaning or child-care must
arrange advertising with Great News Publishing.
Only one-time sales and families looking for a
Nanny or babysitter will be accepted.
How Bugle Bargain Ads Work
1. You must have a current LBCA membership to
place a Bugle Bargain. Out-of-community people
may purchase a membership.
BugLe BArgAins
(Non-Business Ads Only)
2. With your current LBCA membership, you can,
as a prerequisite of membership, run an ad for
THREE months.
3. Write out your ad (around 60 words maximum),
with your name, phone number and membership
number for our records, and take it to the of ce
upstairs at the Rec Centre.

VOLUNTEERING
is good for the soul
The Of f i ci al lake bonavi sta Communi t y Newsl et t er I DECEMBER 2011 51
Normally this is a month when there is
less news from City Hall and more news
regarding Christmas but it seems we are going to do that
diferently this year by combining these two!
I am very pleased and proud to announce that Ward 14 has
just received a Major Christmas present this year we have
successfully (and fnally) received the go-ahead for a major
overpass at 22X and Macleod Trail, something that has been
wanted for years, but could not get the go-ahead - until now!
Naturally I like to think I did play a role in this major achieve-
ment - it was talked about for years with little headway - and
of course it took a lot of dollars that were not easy to fnd
right now. Let me just say Thank You! to all the many peo-
ple who have done so much to make this happen. Its always
such a pleasure for me to see that my work at City Hall can
have benefts for Ward 14 such as this rare opportunity to
really get something going that will clearly be of such major
beneft to Ward 14. The project should begin construction
in 2012 and hopefully will be fnished in 2014.
More good news: The two Ward 14 surplus school sites in
Deer Ridge at Yellow Slide Park and Midnapore near Father
Lacombe Centre are being transferred to the Francophone
School Board. Finally - a resolution to long-standing local
concerns about what was going to happen to this land, with
many people imagining the worst - so chalk up another win
for Ward 14!
I thought people might en-
joy this picture of MLA Cindy
Ady and me helping install
the new joint-venture sign
we pushed for and got! I
would like to publicly thank
Cindy for her help in getting
us this sign Cindy managed
the almost unprecedented
efort to get Provincial participation and funding on this
City supplied and installed project. Another community
concern I am pleased to see fnally resolved.
Social Media has become a major new avenue for City Hall
political types like me to get your feedback and suggestions
for improvement, and I am pleased to say that 2 websites
are up and running (www.peterdemong.ca www.peterde-
mong@calgary.ca ) along with many of the major applica-
tions such as Facebook ( Group - @PeterDemong Alderman
ALdermAn, WArd 14
Peter demong
www.peterdemong.ca
Ward14 ) and Twitter (#peterdemong) so yes, we are certainly
also on top of that should you prefer that way of reaching me.
If you can send us an email ( EAWard14@calgary.ca) we can
add you to the lists of people we consult for surveys or the
occasional e-mail monthly newsletter blast we are sending
out- you can read it well ahead of others who are still wait-
ing for snail mail and other printed media to arrive.
For those who are curious: Committees that I am on for the
upcoming year include: SPC Community and Protective
Services ( police, crime, social issues) and SPC Utilities and
Corporate Services, as well as Gas, Power and Telecommuni-
cations; Intergovernmental Afairs; Inter-municipal Foothills
and a number of other ones as well as our 11 Community
Associations. So far I have only missed a few of the monthly
Community Association meetings and I can tell you they are
all doing good work you should think about getting more
involved with them and buying a membership at the very
least .These folks are doing a lot of work on your behalf and
usually get very little recognition for any of it.
Well thats it except to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas
and happy Holiday Season this year, and also a very Happy
New Year!

Updated Critic and Committee Work
I want to let you know my current critic positions and
committee work. With session over, please go to my
website to see the questions Ive been asking the gov-
ernment on your behalf: www.heatherforsyth.com. The
speeches Ive made in the legislature on diferent bills
that have been debated are also posted. The fall ses-
sion of the legislature was one of the shortest I can
remember. We were in the house for 2 days, adjourned
for three weeks, and returned for two weeks. During
the two day sitting I had the opportunity to talk about
what you, as constituents (Albertans), want versus what
government tells us we want.
Some critic roles have changed to refect governments
new cabinet. Going forward I will assume the role for 5
diferent critic positions. Health and Wellness, Seniors,
Service Alberta, Culture and Community Spirit, and So-
licitor General. Having this many critic positions is sure
to keep me busy, but I look forward to being able to
represent the concerns of so many Albertans. My new
committee work includes Privileges and Elections,
Standing Orders & Printing; Public Accounts; and Public
Health and Safety.
Seasons greetings
Lastly, I would like to thank each one of you for your
comments, criticisms and support over this past year.
It is truly an honour to be your elected representative
and Im so proud to be your MLA.
I would like to extend my warmest wishes to you, your
family, loved ones, and friends, for a very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!

tHe roAd not tAken
by Robert Frost (1874 1963)
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the frst for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the diference.
