Third Annual Cambria Walk in the Woods

SafeTree has joined Greenspace and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and generously funded the Third Annual Cambria Walk in the Woods. The walk, as in the past, will take place on Tracy and Ralph Covells Cambria Pines by the Sea Ranch (formerly Cambria Coast Ranch). As you may remember, Greenspace was honored by TNC at the Cambria Coast Ranch dedication in the fall of 2000. Since TNCs historic purchase of a conservation easement on Cambria Coast Ranch, we have worked closely with the conservation easement holder to develop a method that provides limited public access to the Ranch while protecting the privacy of the landowner. Most Cambrians, or the casual visitors to our area, have never had the opportunity to walk on this precious property. Thanks to SafeTree, The Nature Conservancy, the Covells, and Greenspace we have the opportunity to visit this wonderful property. Since the demand has exceeded the number of tours we have traditionally offered on the ranch, SafeTree has come forward to not only fund our regular walk but agreed to add two additional walks. We now are offering ten walks on four weekends. In addition to the knowledge that Richard Hawley and Brad Seek share with the hikers on the tours, Greenspace has arranged for additional experts to speak on a number of the tours. The guest speakers will have knowledge in forest genetics, botany, and forest pathology. Greenspace is very fortunate to have developed partnerships with state and international experts on Monterey pines and look forward to sharing this good fortune with local residents and with visitors to our community. The tour date that have been agreed upon are: April 19th at 10:00 AM and at 2:00 PM April 20th at 10:00 AM May 3rd at 10:00 AM and at 2:00 PM May 10th at 10:00 AM May 11th at 10:00 AM May 17th at 10:00 AM May 18th at 10:00 AM May 24th at 10:00 AM People wishing to participate must RSVP with Greenspace, as space is limited to twenty people per tour. Each tour will last approximately 2 hours. When you RSVP the Greenspace staff will let you know where the location of the hike will Photo Courtesy of Galen Rathbun be and, if driving to the event, where to park. Photo Courtesy of Galen Rathbun Having a sturdy pair of walking shoes, a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen is strongly suggested. In addition, wearing light colored, layered clothing is considered the prudent attire for the event. If you are interested in joining us on one of these scheduled Cambria Walks in the Woods, please call early to reserve your spot. We anticipate a high degree of interest in this activity and space will be in demand.
