that well help you get through the game, I've released this Mini Walkthrough that covers the basic things that you need to do in order to beat the game! I will have a more detailed Walkthrough up later, but this is all you'll need for now! You'll start out in Pallet Town. Try to head north to Route 1, and Professor Oak will stop you. Choose your starting Pokemon wisely, then battle your Rival's starting Pokemon (it will be at level 5). Head north through Route 1 to Viridian City, and stop at the PokeMart (on the eastern side of town) to pick up Oak's Parcel. Take the Parcel back to Professor

Oak in Pallet Town, and he'll give you a Pokedex and 5 Poke Balls. Head north past Viridian City to Route 2, and enter Viridian Forest. Pass through the Forest to reach Pewter City. Try to have your starting Pokemon's Level above 12 before challenging Brock in the Pewter City Gym. If you started with Charmander, make sure it's at least Level 13 and knows Metal Claw before continuing. Try to have another Pokemon above Level 10 as well. Defeat Brock for the Boulder Badge!

Leader, Brock Pokemon Types LV Geodude Rock/Ground 12

Rock/Ground 14 Onix Water- and Grass-type Pokemon will do exceptionally well against Brock. One attack from either of them should be enough to take Brock's Pokemon out in one shot. If you started with Bulbasaur or Squirtle, you should have no

trouble here; if you started with Charmander, the fight will be a lot more difficult, and you'll want some backup, like Butterfree or Mankey, and Charmander should be at Level 13 so it can use Metal Claw. After beating Brock, proceed eastbound to reach Mt. Moon. You'll have to fight a lot of trainers along the way. Make your way through Mt. Moon, then continue heading east to reach Cerulean City. Get your Pokemon's levels up high. You'll want your Pokemon's levels to be around 16-20 before fighting against Cerulean City's Gym Leader, Misty. If you're using Charmander or Squirtle and don't have a Pikachu, you might want to consider catching a Bellsprout or

Oddish from Route 24 to the north before fighting Misty, instead of afterward (click here to jump to that step). Defeat Misty for the Cascade Badge! Leader, Misty Pokemon Types Staryu Water LV 18

Starmie Water/Psychic 21 Misty's Staryu is a pushover. It's her Starmie that you have to worry about. Starmie is a very fast, and very powerful evolved Pokemon, so you'll need to battle wisely against it. Try to inflict a status condition on it, such as Paralyze or Poison before you launch your offensive strike. She will use a Super Potion if she needs to, so be wary of a nasty surprise when her Starmie reaches critical damage! Try to get Grass-type Pokemon that can absorb the brunt of her attacks, such as Ivysaur, Paras, Bellsprout, or Oddish, and be sure to have lots of restorative items handy!

Note: If Misty is too difficult for you, fight all of the Trainers on Routes 24 and 25, then return for a rematch.

Travel north to Route 24. You'll have to fight your Rival, and many Trainers along the way. After you're at Route 24, head east to Route 25, and speak with Bill. Receive the S.S. Ticket from Bill, then return to Cerulean City and enter the house that was under police investigation. Take the back exit, and fight the Rocket Grunt in the back. Continue south, going through Route 5. Take the tunnel in the small building to reach Route 6, then head south to Vermilion City. Travel down the pier, and board the S.S. Anne. Fight the Trainers aboard, along with your Rival, and

make your way to the Captain's Room. Give him a backrub, and then he'll give you HM01, Cut! You can now leave the S.S. Anne, and watch it set sail. Teach one of your Pokemon Cut (don't teach it to any of your strong Pokemon though, because it's a weak attack), then use Cut on the bush blocking entrance to Vermilion City's Gym. Make sure your Pokemon's Levels are 18-24 before continuing. If you started with Squirtle, consider catching a Diglett or Dugtrio in the nearby Diglett's Cave before the fight. Defeat Lt. Surge for the Thunder Badge! Leader, Lt. Surge Pokemon Types LV Voltorb Electric 21 Pikachu Electric 18 Raichu Electric 24

Voltorb and Pikachu are both easy opponents, although Voltorb can use Sonicboom to hit you for a

solid 20 damage, which can take off a hefty chunk of your HP at this stage in the game, so be careful. Use your strongest attacks against Lt. Surge's Pokemon, particularly Groundtype ones. Keep any Flying- and Water-type Pokemon away from the fight, because they'll get toasted by Lt. Surge's attacks. Watch out for his Raichu, because it can not only Paralyze you, but it can use Double Team to raise it's Evasion as well, making it very difficult to hit! Try to Paralyze it, or put it to Sleep to keep it from using it's annoying attacks. Travel through the Diglett's Cave to the east of Vermilion City, reemerging on Route 2. Head south, and talk to Professor Oak's Aide inside one of the buildings there

to receive HM02, Flash, but only if you have 10 or more Pokemon on your Pokedex. Return to Cerulean City, but this time head east, Cutting through the bushes previously blocking your path. Continue east, through Route 9, fighting any Trainers you encounter, until you reach Route 10. Heal at the Pokemon Center, then enter the Rock Tunnel. The Rock Tunnel is dark, so you'll need to use Flash in order to light it up, allowing you to see the cave. Wander through the cave, fighting the wild Pokemon and Trainers as you go along, and reach the other side of Route 10. Head south to Lavender Town. From Lavender Town, head west to Route 8, then take the Underground Tunnel to Route 7, then continue west to Celadon City. Enter the Game Corner (to the southwest of the Pokemon Center), and examine the Rocket Grunt by the Poster. Then, check

behind the poster and hit the switch to open up a passage. In the Rocket's Base, start on the 3rd Basement, proceed through the maze, then take the flight of stairs up and get the Card Key from the Rocket Grunt in the corner of the room. After you have the card key, go to the 2nd Basement, and make your way through the even larger maze there. Take the elevator to the 4th Basement, then fight the Rocket Grunts guarding the door. After beating them, fight Giovanni, and claim the Silph Scope from him. Before fighting Erika, you might want to consider heading west to Route 16 and talking to the lady inside of the house that you need to Cut to access. She'll give you HM02, Fly. Enter the Celadon City Gym, and prepare to fight against Erika and her Pokemon! Your Pokemon's Levels should be from 25-30, and you'll want to have a strong Fireor Psychic-type Pokemon to use against her. Psychic-type

Pokemon, although they deal neutral damage against Grasstype Pokemon, will deal double damage against her Victreebel and Vileplume, which are both part Poison-type. Defeat Erika for the Rainbow Badge! LV 24

Leader, Erika Pokemon Types Tangela Grass

Victreebel Grass/Poison 29 Vileplume Grass/Poison 29

Erika's Pokemon all have the Giga Drain attack, which will suck the HP out of your Pokemon and give it to her Pokemon! Be cautious of this attack, along with her arsenal of attacks that inflict nasty Status Ailments, such as Poison, Paralyze, and Sleep. Be sure to have a few Full Heals handy, because you'll be needing them! Tangela has high Defense, so be sure to only use Special Attacks against it, otherwise it will absorb most of the blow. Victreebel and

Vileplume are both part Poisontype, so you can use Psychic-type attacks against them to deal heavy damage as well. Boulder Badge | Cascade Badge | Thunder Badge | Rainbow Badge | Soul Badge | Marsh Badge | Volcano Badge | Earth Badge | Elite Four | Sevii Islands Getting the Soul Badge

After beating Erika and claiming the Silph Scope, return to Lavender Town in the east. Enter the Pokemon Tower. Make your way to the top of the tower, fighting Trainers, Rocket Members, and a ghostly mother Marowak along the way. Free Mr. Fuji, then talk with him afterward in his house to receive the Poke Flute. Head either south of Lavender Town to Routes 12, 13, 14, and 15, or return to Route 16 (west of Celadon City) and go south. You'll have to fight a Level 30 Snorlax on each path, and each path will

take you to Fuchsia City eventually. Enter the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City, and make your way to the very end, picking up the Gold Teeth along the way. Upon making it to the finish, you'll receive HM03, Surf. Give the Gold Teeth to the Warden, and he'll give you HM04, Strength, for your heroic deed. Enter the Fuchsia City Gym, and prepare to fight against Koga and his Poison-type Pokemon! A strong Psychic- or Ground-type Pokemon will have no problem taking out most of Koga's Pokemon. Try to have your Pokemon above Level 35 before challenging him, and be sure to keep lots of Hyper Potions/Lemonade, Revives, and Antidote or Full Heals in your inventory before fighting him. Defeat Koga for the Soul Badge! Leader, Koga Pokemon Types LV Koffing Poison 37

Muk

Poison 39

Koffing Poison 37 Weezing Poison 43

Koga's Poison-type Pokemon can be a burden, but if you hammer them with strong Special Attacks, they'll fall over pretty fast. Earthquake is effective against Muk, but Ground-type attacks are useless against the two Koffings and Weezing due to their Levitate ability, so use powerful Psychictype attacks against them instead. If you don't have Psychic-type attacks, try to hit them with whatever Special Attacks you might have, since their Defense is on the high side. The Koffings can both use Selfdestruct, so be cautious when fighting them, or you might lose your main attacker. Also, be wary of Toxic, a nasty attack that poisons the target, and the afflicted Pokemon will lose a greater portion of their HP each turn!

After beating Koga, head back to Saffron City and enter Silph Co. (The large building in the center of the city.) Team Rocket has taken over Silph Co.! Be sure you're prepared before you enter. You'll have to fight dozens of Pokemon from Level 25 to Level 33, your Rival whose Pokemon's Levels are in the upper 30s. Note: This guide takes you to the most direct path to Giovanni. You'll most likely want to take the opportunity to explore the other floors, and fight all of the Trainers you can. First off, make your way to the 5th Floor of the building. From the staircase or Elevator, head west until you hit the wall, then go south. Fight the Rocket Grunt there, and then step on the

Teleporter tile. It will take you somewhere. Step back on it, but take one step south or west so you're behind the Rocket Grunt and the Teleporter tile. Head east until you find the Card Key. Now that you have the Card Key, go to the 3rd Floor, and enter the western room. You can take the Teleporter tile in the first part of the room to go directly to the Rival fight, or you can take the one in the back to go up to the 9th Floor, where you can heal your Pokemon (if you talk to the lady near the beds). Fight your Rival on the 7th Floor, and talk to the person nearby to receive a Lapras. Take the Teleporter tile, and arrive on the 11th Floor. Fight the Rocket Grunt guarding the door, then enter the door to fight Giovanni. After beating Giovanni, talk to the Silph Co. President, and you'll receive the Master Ball. Exit Silph Co., heal your Pokemon, and go to the Saffron City Gym!

The Gym is a little tricky to get around in. To get through it as quickly as possible, take them in this order: Starting tile; Northwest tile; South-west tile; Southwest tile. Defeat Sabrina for the Marsh Badge! Leader, Sabrina Pokemon Types Kadabra Psychic LV 38

37 Mr. Mime Psychic Venomoth Bug/Poison 38

43 Alakazam Psychic Psychic-type Pokemon and their attacks are generally very powerful, so you must proceed with caution in this fight. Keep any Fighting- and Poison-type Pokemon out of this fight, and try to have your Pokemon's levels in the upper 30s or lower 40s. Sabrina's Kadabra should go down without too much trouble, especially from a powerful physical-based attack, such as Strength, or by hitting it with Bite,

a Dark-type move. Mr. Mime has a lot more defensive power than Kadabra, so it might withstand an additional hit or two before it faints. However, it too will fall without too much of a problem. Venomoth is the surprise here; if you have a strong Fire- or Psychic-type Pokemon (since Venomoth is Bug/Poison), you'll want to use them in this matchup. Venomoth should also go down without any major problems, although it's attacks can be very annoying. Sabrina's Alakazam is the Pokemon that you want to watch out for -- it's Special Attack is through the roof! It likes to Calm Mind a few times (usually twice), then start using Psychic to take out your Pokemon one-by-one. Strong physicalbased attacks are again the way to go here, due to Alakazam's low Defense. Special Attacks are a lot less potent when Alakazam starts using Calm Mind, because it will increase it's Special Defense by a

lot, so just stick to physical-based attacks and you should win. Boulder Badge | Cascade Badge | Thunder Badge | Rainbow Badge | Soul Badge | Marsh Badge | Volcano Badge | Earth Badge | Elite Four | Sevii Islands Getting the Volcano Badge

You need to get to Cinnibar Island. You can either go back to Fuchsia Town and pass through the Seafoam Islands (picking up Articuno, if you desire), or head south of Pallet Town. Both ways will get you there, although it's a lot quicker going south of Pallet Town. Once on Cinnibar Island, you'll find that the Gym is locked. Enter the Pokemon Mansion (the north-west most house). Note: The directions I'm about to give will take you through the Mansion as quickly as possible. You'll want to stick around, explore, fight the Trainers, and gather up the items as well.

Head up the Stairway to the north of the entrance. From the Stairway, head east, then north, then west again to another Stairway. Search the statue of a Pokemon and flick the switch, then jump down the left-most opening in the wall. Go down the Stairway, and enter the basement. In the basement, head west, then north around the walls (that you need to get inside of), then take the entrance on the west side of the room. Flick the switch on the statue, and then go north of the Stairs you took. Keep going, hitting the switch in the first northern room you encounter. After hitting that, head west, and grab the Secret Key from the table. Exit the Pokemon Mansion, heal your Pokemon, and head for the Cinnibar Island Gym! Defeat Blaine for the Volcano Badge!

Leader, Blaine Pokemon Types LV Growlithe Fire 42 Ponyta Fire 40 47 41 Arcanine Fire Rapidash Fire

Blaine's fiery Pokemon are pretty tough, but they can be overpowered with powerful Water, Ground-, or Rock-type attacks. The Growlithe and Ponyta should both go down in one or two shots of Surf, Dig, Earthquake, or Rock Slide (or a similar attack), but the Arcanine and Rapidash will give you grief, especially the Arcanine. Against Arcanine, hit it with your strongest attacks, and make sure that you heal when necessary. Compared to Arcanine, Rapidash will seem easy, but it's still no piece of cake. Just keep hammering the attacks at Blaine's Pokemon, and you'll earn your badge.
