Rains are a blessing for most of us.

If we could control them and bring them on whenever we are in need of or keep them off as long as we desire, then, of course, rains would be a blessing. But as it is, man is helpless before nature. It follows its own pattern which is sometimes not to our liking. There was one such day when it rained and I did not like it. They day was a holiday and I had planned to spend it m my own way. I was to pay a visit to my sister at Meerut which is at a distance of 70 kilometers from my place. Early that morning I started from home. Even at that hour I could see bad weather ahead. Dark, smoky clouds threatened rain. I thought I would be safe if I got into a bus. Alas! It was in vain. As I was getting into the bus it started raining and it rained quite heavily. Within a few minutes everyone was drenched to the skin. None got the time to get a shelter. In a very short time the roads were flooded. Traffic came to a standstill. Visibility was reduced only to a few metres. It poured so heavily that even the headlights of the bus could not pierce the thick sheet of water pouring from the sky. Water collected more speedily than it went down the drains. The stalls and the temporary structures of the shops at the bus stop dripped. Those inside the shops and buses as also those outside on the road were getting wet. The worse was yet to come. Stools, benches, chairs and small tables kept for customers outside the shops and stalls, began to float in the rushing streams of rain water. It was a pity to see people running after their articles. A man running to catch a bench fell into a nullah. He might have been swept away by the strong current but the water itself threw him out. The poor man stood for a moment looking dazed at the rushing water. It rained for four hours during which period all activities came to a standstill. When at last the rain stopped I was fully drenched and not in a shape to go to Meerut. There was hardly any time left for the return journey. Moreover, I felt home sick and longed to be at home in my comfortable bed. Hence I came home. ____________________________________________________

Pets

should

be

treated

like

family

members.

I know people that consider their pets a part of their families. I strongly agree with that stance towards the animals we have in our homes. For me, treating a pet like a family member is a good lesson in responsibility. In addition, this attitude makes the animals we possess feel happier, and guarantees their being satisfied with our care.

We should treat pets like members of our families, because the animals that we take care of give us lessons in responsibility. One knows (YOU KNOW) that there is somebody but himself (APART FROM YOURSELF) to look after. Thus we learn how to look after our future families. In addition, pets teach us qualities like patience and understanding. People should consider his pet (THEIR PETS AS) a family member, as the animal they possess (OWN) will feel happier this way. Pets like cats and dogs are aware of the attitude their master has towards them. They feel better when they are paid more attention. Plus, (IN ADDITION) when you think of your cat as of some (ONE) of your relatives you will never dare to torture it. Pets should be granted (PAID THE ATTENTION) with the attention that we bestow to our families, and thus their health will be benefited (BENEFIT). One (YOU) will never dare to leave his (YOUR) dog hungry if he accepts it as a part of the home. Many people ignore the animals they have at home. However, pets need care, nutrition, and attention. I think that it is not right to buy a living being that will depend on you, and make it suffer because of your lack of responsibility. The people that I know think that pets should be treated like family members. I agree with them. Not only is that good for the animals health and mood, but also it teaches us responsibility.

This essay is about animals as pets and the opposing and conflicting views. Many people think that pets are too much of a responsibility, as they require food, walked on a regular basis, trained properly and lots of love and care. Any pet that lives outside a cage has to be trained properly so that it does not soil the home. Without training dogs can be very destructive and even dangerous. Pets are also very expensive and their food, toys, and medical treatment cost a lot of money too. Some pets are not looked after properly by their owners and sometimes the owner even loses interest. There were 40,879 humane destructions of dogs last year, 32,769 of cats and 18,816 of others. These figures include 29,610 dogs and cats too sick to live. People are cruel to pets and hurt them in al sorts of ways. In 1985 the RSPCA had to destroy 137,632 dogs cats and other pets, many were healthy but just too much for the RSPCA to find homes for. Inspectors from the RSPCA were called out to investigate 64,678 complaints last year. These are just some of the bad points of having a pet.

Others think of pets as trusted friends as they give us comfort and affection. Pets are tame animals kept for companionship or because they are attractive to look at. Pets are good fun and can teach children responsibilities in life. Pets in the UK are very popular below are the top ten pets in England and Wales. In 1980 there was 5.6million dogs in the UK, this number increased by 1.8million in 1989. There were 2million more cats in the UK in 1989 than in 1980. The number of Budgies also increased by 0.1million in 1989. The Royal Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals more commonly known as the RSPCA looks after animals that have been treated badly. Last year the RSPCA homed 105,079 animals including dogs, cats and many other animals. If you dont have a pet I would seriously consider buying one. Pets are very good company and almost any animal could be a pet. Unusual pets require special care and some knowledge and how they behave in the wild. Many pets need very little attention or space there is room in the smallest home for a fish tank or a birdcage.

You would not believe your eyes If ten million fireflies Lit up the world as I fell asleep 'Cause they'd fill the open air And leave teardrops everywhere You'd think me rude But I would just stand and stare I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems 'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs From ten thousand lightning bugs As they tried to teach me how to dance A foxtrot above my head A sock hop beneath my bed A disco ball is just hanging by a thread I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems When I fall asleep Leave my door open just a crack

(Please take me away from here) 'Cause I feel like such an insomniac (Please take me away from here) Why do I tire of counting sheep (Please take me away from here) When I'm far too tired to fall asleep To ten million fireflies I'm weird 'cause I hate goodbyes I got misty eyes as they said farewell But I'll know where several are If my dreams get real bizarre 'Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems When I fall asleep I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems When I fall asleep I'd like to make myself believe That planet earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep Because my dreams are bursting at the seams
