Industry Partnership for Consumer Industries

Industry Partners are select Member companies of the World Economic Forum that are actively involved in the Forums mission at the industry level. With privileged access to the Forums multistakeholder networks and experts, partnership brings visibility and insight to strategic decision-making on the most important industry and cross-industry related issues. This access and insight allows Partners to contribute to leading change in global and regional issues and engage in action to support corporate global citizenship. The Forum connects people. Partnership Highlights
The Consumer Industries community develops multistakeholder projects on themes such as sustainability, agriculture, health and water security. Over the year, Partners contributed to a broad portfolio of projects and actively participated in various working groups and task forces with key public officials and other constituents. Highlights include: Supported by the UN, raised water security to be the top media story at the Annual Meeting 2008 and shared forecast in 2009; generated dialogue between policy-makers and business on water shortage, based on a geopolitical and economic forecast of the world in 2025 under a business as usual scenario In partnership with the World Health Organization, supported development of regional and global partnerships between public and private sectors, focused on prevention of chronic disease through workplace wellness Developed a cutting edge report, Redesigning Business Value: A Roadmap to Sustainable Consumption, providing an aspirational framework for innovation, collaboration and long-term investment as the way towards a sustainable future Captured best practice in examples of scalable business models that combat poverty and hunger along the food value chain in a report entitled The Next Billions Built a coalition of over 30 business, government and civil society organizations in Kenya, The Business Alliance Against Chronic Hunger, to identify innovative business approaches to combating poverty and hunger Built partnerships with local governments on the future of agriculture in Tanzania and Vietnam

Industry Partnership Privileges


Partnership offers privileged access to the Forums networks across business, government, academia and nongovernmental organizations for chairs/CEOs and senior leadership teams to identify issues that can benefit from collaborative action bringing together key leaders to create the necessary change. Participation is reserved for leading consumer industry members of the global business community who are committed to the mission of the World Economic Forum. Industry Partnership provides opportunities for senior executives from these companies to engage in Forum activities throughout the year. Projects and Initiatives


New Vision for Agriculture Engages high-level leaders of industry, government and international institutions with support from leading experts to define a shared agenda for agricultural development by addressing topics such as investment, technology, policy, trade and environmental sustainability. Participants define joint priorities, recommendations and opportunities for collaboration and impact at global and country levels. Driving Sustainable Consumption Working in collaboration with a coalition of interested governments and international organisations, the Policy Innovation Platform will engage business to supply reliable and unbiased guidance to advance public policies that embrace and enable the dynamic nature of business innovation. This platform will focus on sharing the experience and benefits of specific and proven sets of policies that have accelerated and scaled up sustainable consumption. A series of dialogues and workshops will take place at the Forums regional events in 2011. Builds awareness on the risks of water insecurity and the importance of the water-energyfood nexus to sustained economic growth. Aligning the Forum's experience in building public-private coalitions with the latest analytics in the water resource space, the initiative is working with a group of leader countries to demonstrate proof of concept of the ACT process: to engage in Analysis to Convene multistakeholder discussions and to undertake public-private water sector Transformations. The key focus areas for technology deployment and best practice sharing include water use improvements in agriculture, municipal infrastructure and industry, as well as innovations in financing and institutional reform. Aims to help a number of partner governments and their domestic private sector turn their national or regional low carbon development strategies into investible propositions. At the end of a two year process success will be judged on whether the initiative has been able to develop investment propositions for select sectors of their economies (for example energy, transportation, land-use) that are ready for uptake in the capital market. Outcomes will be presented at COP17 in Durban, at Rio +20, at COP18, and will feed in the G20 Business Task Force on the Green Economy. Fosters collaboration of key stakeholders across sectors on issues pertaining to global health and including international bodies such as the World Health Organization. Two areas of focus include the Workplace Wellness Alliance, engaging employers in a collaboration to improve employee health and productivity and reduce the burden of chronic diseases, and Incentives for Healthy Living, supporting high-level dialogue on the partnerships and policies needed to facilitate healthy lifestyles and develop markets for health. Deliverables of the initiatives are planned to input into the UN Summit on Non-Communicable Diseases in September 2011.

Global Agenda Councils


The Global Agenda Councils represent an innovation in global cooperation, creating multistakeholder groups to tackle the most important issues on the global agenda. Each Council convenes 15-20 leading experts to propose solutions, devise strategies and evaluate the effectiveness of actions. The insight is fed directly into the Forums activities, including the Industry Partnership Programme. Based on individual expertise, senior executives from Industry Partners may be invited to participate.
