Zhou Zhen PhD Candidate BEng (CSIE), 2002 Studying Computer Science at HKUST is probably the biggest opportunity and challenge in my life so far. In these years, many world-class professors here have led us to explore the field and to catch its rapid development. Therefore, I decided to pursue my dream here after my undergraduate with many young talents from all over the world. I think what really attract me are not only the outstanding facilities and faculties here, but more importantly the family atmosphere and the enterprising spirit. It is a great honor for me to study in the department.

Fung Wai Kwok, Will Fung Wai Kwok, Will COMP Graduate, 1999 Business Analyst, KPMG I received my Bachelor and Master degrees in Computer Science from HKUST. I am now a chartered accountant and work in a professional services company. My professional experience comes across with Project Management, ERP, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence and Strategic Enterprise Management. Studying in HKUST CS Department inspired my profession in information technology and provided me with the opportunity of studying aboard and invaluable friendship and

memories. Professors are in high quality with international exposure and consider students as important assets to the society. They apply their expertise in the pioneer research areas and their efforts are well recognized by the top international journals, conferences and general public. Most of them gained their international experiences from overseas top tie universities. Learning and interacting with them allowed me to improve myself according to the international standard and trained me to be more competitive in the job market. Besides, the exchange program provided an opportunity for me to study aboard in University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for one year that opened my eyes to the world spectrum. This was a remarkable year which I met friends with different cultures. I believe it made a significant positive influence on my vision and communication skills that helps me a lot on work and daily lives. I believe that my friends are integrated parts of my university life. Studying in the CS Department, I had the chance to meet up, study with and play with possibly the most talent group of people in the areas. We supported each other on going through assignments and examinations; playing and laughing together. These filled my university life with lots of job. I feel lucky that I joined the family of HKUST CS Department. I believe the time I spent in HKUST is an important fruitful chapter in my life and grants me invaluable life-time assets.

Derek Chau Derek Chau COMP Graduate, 2000 President, Computer Science Alumni Association of HKUST 2005/06 Computer science and engineering is my personal interest and I want to pursue my career in IT industry. Also, HKUST gives me an impression of energetic, innovative and professional. Thus, I chose HKUST CS in JUPAS. As expected, HKUST nurtured me in all-rounded development. Computer science is more than programming languages and the computing processes. It is also a study of

problem analysis and solving. Those skills are applicable to other areas. The workload in the study program was really heavy but it did give me good training. I find that UST graduates are in general more durable and can work independently. My personality and interpersonal skill also become more mature after the 3-year study. For me, the most important thing of university life is not only to learn the technical knowledge for future job, but it is the process of learning and the way to acquire the knowledge. As I remember the words from the CS department head when I was an undergraduate, "learn how to learn" is the essential skill that every CS students should pick up. From my point of view, information technology industry has never gone downturn regardless of the blown up of IT bubble. Instead, it is always becoming more and more important to our daily life. There are always opportunities for Computer Science graduates. I'm proud of being an alumnus of UST CS and sincerely hope that the spirit of CS can extend to all alumni. Although UST is a relatively young university, its achievements are well known to public and even internationally. I have really met quite a lot of successful UST alumni in my working environment.

Law Wai Ki, Ricky, photo taken in INPG From the exchange program, I find that there are so many things that textbooks cannot tell. It was very important to learn the interpersonal skills and how to deal with emergent situations. There were so many unforgettable memories during the exchange period. It was never easy to stay in a place where all the languages I spoke didn't work with the people there. Let me share some experiences with you.

Once, I joined my friends to visit the cities near Grenoble. After I had taken a flight for 12 hours, I had an unhappy experience in passing through the security counter at the airport. The secure took my passport and said something I did not understand. Later I realized that they were suspicious of the ownership of my passport. Then, they took me to the police station, where I had been staying there for about 30 minutes. One Saturday, my friends and I went for a one-day trip to Geneva by train with my elementary spoken French. Before the trip, we had checked everything to ensure that no mistake would occur. When we got on the train happily, we saw a display board showing "This train is going to Annecy". We felt very strange but we were confident that we had made a correct decision. After an hour, all passengers left the train at Annecy and we saw "This train is going to Grenoble" on the board! The only thing we could do was to get off the train immediately and ask the staff for the way to Geneva. What unforgettable memories they are! Now, I became more independent and can deal with different emergent situations with more confidence. Even though there were so many troubles throughout the journey and I always felt frustrated at that time, looking back, they have just made my journey more colorful and they would definitely become the precious moments in my life.

Wong Chun Kit Wong Chun Kit PhD Candidate MPhil (COMP), 2003 BEng (COMP), 1st Class Honors, 1999 "Digital image analysis has revolutionized modern medicine. With the image processing knowledge I acquired from the HKUST Computer Science program, and my dedication to R&D, I am sure that my professional abilities will help physicians with confident diagnoses and surgery through medical image analysis."

Lam Chi Yung Lam Chi Yung MPhil (COMP), 1999 BEng (COMP), 1st Class Honors, 1997 Among the first batch of exchange students going to the University of Michigan, he obtained outstanding academic results during his exchange. "Our curriculum covers the areas of database, Unix and software engineering. These are applicable to our practical work. The study of Computer Science can be conceived as training for logical thinking, including analytical and problem solving skills, which are the soft skills essential to our daily work nowadays. IT professionals also need to know about business operation and project management. The career in IT is not just limited to problem module coding on your own, and is definitely not confined to just being a "programmer", as many people might think."

The name of the association is Alumni Association of Design Programme, IIT Kanpur, and the abbreviated name is Design Association. It is conceived as an organization to enable the alumni to keep in touch with Design Programme and the current students to benefit from the skills, resources and contacts of the alumni. The objectives include collaborative initiatives in research, sponsored projects, workshops & seminars, summer training and job placement.

About The Baltimore City College Alumni Association, Inc.

The Baltimore City College Alumni Association was established in 1866 to be a major support group for Baltimore City College High School. The Association also offers advice to the principal on various matters. The Baltimore City College Alumni (BCCAA) is one of the oldest alumni associations in the nation. The Board of Governors is the ruling body of the BCCAA. This Board consists of the President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Financial Secretary and Governors that serve three, two, and one year terms.
