URSHIA KANT RAKESH KR. AZAD.
MERI JOURNAL OF EDUCATION. VOL.III, NO. II, OCTOBER 2008.

What children learn through manipulation of the environment is nothing less than the ability to think -David Elkin. Teaching of environmental education needs a greater and fruitful impact on the thinking of young minds in order to realize the importance and utility of out healthy environment. This paper suggests effective ways of teaching environmental education through computers. Teachers are now shouldering new responsibilities to accelerate the development of future citizens. Disseminating the pedagogical reforms through transactional strategies is the need of the hour. The innovative teacher educators and teachers are finding ways and means to transfer knowledge with illumination and wisdom in their teaching learning process. Computers have taken over every conceivable field of operation today. Computes as Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) have a major role to play in the field of education. Computers has the potential to improve students performance by promoting active participation, maintaining attention to tasks and enhancing problem solving skills. The use of interactive video technology will allow students to see video demonstration of the material presented in printed texts.

Environmental education is the process of recognizing values and clarifying concepts in order to develop skills and attitudes necessary to understand and appreciate the inter-relatedness of man, his culture and his biophysical surrounding. Teachers have applied different subject areas for developing creativity, novelty, Persistence, systematic efforts to bring above changes with conscious effort in the earlier product may that be an idea, theory, resource material and so on which are innovative products of creative process of these teachers. Environmental education covers cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of teaching-learning objectives. Today computers are greatly beneficial to fulfil these objectives in environmental education. Thus, it is important to understand that Environmental Education cannot be introduced in schools in an effective manner unless teachers who teach know and understand what its subject matter is and how it should be taught in schools. Computers have the potential to alter students performance by promoting active participation, maintaining attention to tasks and enhancing problem solving skills. It is high time this is done because schools and colleges are the formal institutions where students develop their attitudes and values and where activities are deliberately carried out to shape student personalities. Adapting to changing technology is clearly an important factor in advancing environmental education field nationally and globally.
