The number of families atended by Oportunidades and the Food Support Program (PAL) increased by 18.7% from 5.47 million families in 2009 to 6.5 million families in 2010.
Oportunidades and PAL prevented that almost one million people fell into poverty
Government programs had a crucial role in these results. Without them, poverty would have affected 1.6 million more people into extreme poverty, that means 2.0 million people.
Specifically, Oportunidades program prevented that 973 000 people fell into poverty and the Food Support Program (PAL) did for 16 000 people. *
