The number of families atended by Oportunidades and the Food Support Program (PAL) increased by 18.7% from 5.47 million families in 2009 to 6.5 million families in 2010.

This means an increase of over thirty million Mexicans

Cash Transfers Effects during Econimic Crisis

Oportunidades and PAL prevented that almost one million people fell into poverty
Government programs had a crucial role in these results. Without them, poverty would have affected 1.6 million more people into extreme poverty, that means 2.0 million people.

Specifically, Oportunidades program prevented that 973 000 people fell into poverty and the Food Support Program (PAL) did for 16 000 people. *

Mexico is not exempt from the worlds increase in the number of people living in poverty conditions due to de economic crisis and the rise of food prices.

Reduction in the prevalence of anemia in beneficiaries under two years old, from 61% to 35.8%.
