To learn more about UHS, visit: http://www.uhs.berkeley.edu The University of California, Berkeley campus is part of a community partnership that has been funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) to reduce HIV and related substance abuse within the community of East Bay college students of color, focusing particularly on MSM. This is a part-time career position, housed in our Social Services unit, is aimed at increasing services to university students who are at higher risk of contracting HIV or who are already living with the infection. This position will work with UCB students exclusively, and aims to bolster services through drug counseling, HIV support, and intervention following possible exposure. Responsibilities: Provide counseling and case management to students presenting with drug and health concerns. Assess students' risk and use motivational interviewing techniques to encourage healthier choices and behavioral change. Develop, oversee, and facilitate relevant psychotherapy or support groups. Provide one-time intervention and psycho-education to students seeking post-exposure prophylaxis in an effort to influence future behavioral choices. Responsible for completing all professional tasks including charting, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to unit's policies and procedures. Develop/compile a campus and community resource package for students who are newly diagnosed with HIV infection. Attend all grant forums with community partners and in-house UHS grant meetings. Periodically meet with campus partners to build and maintain strong connections. Liaison with targeted student groups to get input and ascertain needs. Participate in select outreach presentations with Health Promotion staff to enhance visibility of the position. Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and training. Perform administrative duties related to position. Qualifications: Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling. Valid California license, or if licensed in another state, must obtain a California license within six months of employment. Experience working with issues of substance use, HIV and trauma.

Understanding and sensitivity to issues of racism, homophobia, marginalization and impact on underrepresented students. Understanding of health issues and social experiences specific to men who have sex with men. Excellent interpersonal skills; effective written and verbal communication. Knowledge and experience applying motivational interviewing techniques. Experience developing and running therapy and support groups. Highly skilled at supportive therapy, anxiety reduction and psycho-education techniques. Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, standards and ethics of professional conduct. Computer literate, knowledge of electronic medical records systems. Prior experience working on a college campus or in a community agency focused on HIV treatment of young adults (preferred). Knowledge of Bay Area community resources (preferred). Strong presentation skills (preferred). Experience working with the LGBT community and the coming out process (preferred). Salary: Hiring Salary Range: 50% of $4,440 - $5,520 / paid monthly. Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a part-time, career position at 20 hours per week.
