The 2103 Series became one of Vac-
tor’s sewer cleaners in 1992. In 1995,
Vactor introduced the Ramjet Jetter and
in 1997, Vactor launched the Internation-
al Series Sewer Cleaners. The company
says these were designed and configured
for countries with 12,128 pounds or less
front axle load limits.
“Over the years, Vactor firmly estab-
lished expertise in effective use of high-
pressure water as well as its core expert-
ise in pneumatic conveyance,” the com-
pany says. Vactor explains that by using
these two technologies, along with inten-
sive customer input, it designed, engi-
neered and manufactured one of the
leading hydro-excavators, the Vactor
HXX® Hydro-Excavator.
“Hydro-excavation is the safe and pro-
ductive nondestructive excavation meth-
od,” the company says. “Unlike mechani-
cal excavation, there is little chance of
damage when water is used to loosen the
soil, significantly reducing the safety and
financial risks associated with utility or
pipeline strikes.
“The VAXJET® closed-loop surface
have reached this milestone if we hadn’t
line in recent years, is a patented system
that removes oil, dirt, grease, rubber and
other materials from hard, flat surfaces
using the two core areas of expertise –
high-pressure water technology with a
powerful vacuum source.

An ‘Unmatched’ Milestone
Vactor produced its 10,000th sewer clean-
ing truck in September, which, the com-
pany says, is a milestone “unmatched in
the industry.”
Manufactured at its headquarters in
Streator, Ill., Vactor sewer cleaners have
been the “preferred brand” for most muni-
cipalities and public works departments
since the product’s inception in 1964, acc-
ording to Mark Weber, president of Fed-
eral Signal Environmental Products Group,
parent of Vactor.
“We’re very proud of this achieve-
ment,” Weber said, “because we couldn’t
been diligent in meeting customer re-
quirements.”
Dan Schueller, general manager of the
Streator facility, noted that each Vactor
unit is custom built to order, based on
specifications provided by the customer
or the customer’s Vactor dealer.
“We take the best technology in the
industry and build every Vactor with
care and precision, right here in
Streator,” he said.
Weber explained the company is ex-
tremely proud of its legacy and contribu-
tions to helping keep cities clean and
improve the environment.
“Vactor is dedicated to designing and
building machines that exceed customer
expectations, which we believe will posi-
tion the company for continued growth
in this market,” he said.
The company says the 10,000th unit, a
Vactor 2112, was mounted on a 2006 Ster-
ling LT 9513 chassis and featured an 18-
inch Roots blower, 8-foot telescoping
boom and 1,300-gallon water tank. It pro-
vides 80 gallons per minute of flow at
2,500 psi. ■
