Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein decided to close the case against Supreme Court Justice Yoram Danziger for lack of guilt. With it, the door is open for the return of Danziger to the Supreme Court. Among the conclusions, published by the Attorney General, he states, Following a thorough and comprehensive review of the evidence, I concluded that the case against Danziger should be closed for lack of guilt. I am convinced that Danziger provided Lachiani no benefits during his term as mayor. This conclusion is based on analysis of the evidence that was accumulated during a comprehensive investigation. In September police recommended to prosecute Bat Yam Mayor Shlomo Lachiani, and with him a long list of senior municipal officials, for serious violations of the law, including bribing and money laundering. With it, police recommended to close the case against Danziger for lack of guilt. In the course of the investigation in the municipality of Bat Yam, the National Financial Crime Unit investigated suspicions pertaining to Danziger, who served as Lachianis counsel as an attorney in private practice, prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court. Following his election as mayor, Danziger also provided services to the municipality of Bat Yam. According to the suspicions, Danziger provided Lachiani various personal services free of charge, and in return, Lachiani arranged that Danzigers office provide various services to the municipality. For the services Danzigers office provided to the municipality of Bat Yam, he received over NIS 800,000. Additional suspicions against Danziger pertained to the presentation of alleged false evidence to Bank Igud, when he represented Lachiani before the Bank.
