January 1, 2012 Dear Friend, Do you know what will be the signs of Christs return and the end

of this age? Can these signs be right before your eyes and you miss seeing them? What could possibly keep you from seeing these important events as signs of Jesus return? You need to know. Read on. Did you know that during World War II, many thought they saw signs that Armageddon was approaching and felt Jesus return was imminent? Yet that was more than a half century ago and weve seen massive earthquakes, wars all over the place, and we live with rumors of wars daily. But Jesus told us not to be dismayedthese are only the beginning of the signs of the end of this age. If youre like most Christians, you have wondered how will you know when Jesus return is imminent. The Pharisees and Sadducees wanted to know and they went to Jesus and asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He said,You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah ( Matthew 16:1-4 ). For a clear explanation of this, see Ronald L. Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the LORD than any of those before him. He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria. Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than did all the kings of Israel before him (1 Kings 16:30-33). When Elijah showed up on the scene, he said, There will not be dew nor rain for three years. The astonishing thing was that it didnt rain for three years. The time came for Elijah to confront the prophets of Baal to prove who was the true God. You should read this story in 1 Kings 18ff where Elijah went to Mount Carmel to challenge the Baal worshipers so the true God and his power would be made evident. Then Jezebel was after Elijahs head. Elijah became discouraged and thought he was the only prophet of God left. So he fled for his life to a cave, saying, It is enough. Then a great powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then the voice said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah? He replied, I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too. In 1 Kings 19 God told Elijah there was a remnant of 7000 people who had not bowed the knee to Baal. Similar to the writer, Albert Nock, who divides the population into two campsthe masses and the remnant, the Bible tells us there are two classes of peoplethe wise and the foolish. What makes the difference? The foolish saw Baal worship as new truth. The wise saw the difference in who was God and not God. Being wise has nothing to do with your occupation. You can show the wicked signs from heaven, but they wont understand. Are you the wise or the wicked?
