Hydraulic Actuators Overview (r01)

1. Hydraulic Actuators
The remote control system is designed with hydraulic actuators that have been developed for a sever use in marine ambient and on Dry - Deck or Submerged locations.

1.1. Actuators Features

Actuator dimensions are chosen for the best mechanical connections, so to transmit the necessary torque and guarantee high safety factors. Double Acting (Fail Set) and Single Acting (Fail Close or Fail Open) type. Single Acting exclusively with Belleville washer springs. Suitable for mineral oil viscosity index, from 15 up to 450 Cst, depending on oil selection (please refer to 5.9 for further details on oil selection). All the actuators will be supplied with local or remote sea water resistant blocks for portable or stationery hand pumps for emergency operations. Red and Green labels to prevent incorrect hand pump connections. The oil pipelines fitting connections are of 1/4" GAS.

For both single and double acting actuators, with open and close pressure areas are of same size, so that output torque and forces are identical. Mechanical stroke end tuneable to restore the perfect sealing until the disc closes at 0. Our actuators are provided with end-stroke regulators to grant the valve tightness with a disc not completely closed (6 or 7 when the valve is new). During the time the recover of the seal tightness can be possible with an end stroke regulation so the lifetime of the seal can be easily increased. This requires having a double pilot valve for each and every actuator as safety hydraulic lock of the valve position. Direct assembling on our valves by means of ISO 5211 and DIN 3337 interfaces. Shaft extension in AISI 316 available over the feed back unit box also when such box is directly installed on the top of the actuator (as local position indicator) and for emergency mechanical operations (spammer) on butterfly valves up to DN 300.

For Stop and Screw Down Non Return Valves

Linear Design for both single and double acting actuators, with open and close pressure areas are of same size, so that output torque and forces are identical: Fig. 50100 LPD Double acting type; Fig. 50150 LPS Single acting type with Belleville washer springs;

Extra stroke is possible to allow valve grindings after any internal damages on body or disc seats. Directly assembled on our globe valves. Shaft extension in AISI 316 available over the feed back unit box also when such box is directly installed on the top of the actuator (as local position indicator).

For Double Segregation Safe Shut and for Gate Valves

Linear Design for only double acting actuators, with different open and close pressure areas, so that output torque and force are doubled for opening at the same oil pressure; Fig. 50200 LDD Double acting type.

Extra stroke is possible to allow valve grindings after any internal damages on body or disc seats. Directly assembled on our gate valves. Shaft extension in AISI 316 (as local position indicator).

1.2. Material Selections

Body in nodular cast iron ASTM A 536 and/or carbon steel as standard. Stainless steel AISI 316 body is available on request. Shaft and pinion are in all AISI 316 stainless steel. Local visual position indicator are in all AISI 316 stainless steel.

Hydraulic Actuators Overview (r01)

Each actuator is always provided with a cross over valve (60) for the air-draining procedure and for the local emergency operation with spanner. Please refer to the Item 60 of the drawings Draft series 51500-010, Draft 51500-040 and Draft 51500-060. There are two types of blocks: ALEB (Actuator Local Emergency Blocks) when the actuator is in dry-deck

area the blocks are directly connected on it; AREB (Actuator Remote Emergency Blocks) when the actuators are in a

submerged area the blocks are separated in a remote area. In both of them two types of hand pumps can be connected: PHP type (Portable Hand Pump) for emergency operations. Please refer to drawing 51412-PHP Fixed SHP type (Stationary Hand Pump) as local operation for Shipside or Overboard discharge. Please refer to the drawings 51411-SHP.

1.5. Actuators Handling

All the actuators are loaded with gas/air free oil before delivery. The crossover valves are delivered completely opened for simple and fast air draining procedures.

1.6. Painting
According to RIZZIO standard for marine applications.

1.7. Options
The following options are available on request: AISI 316 body material; Special sealing procedure for submerged locations; Fittings for oil pipelines connections; Local Feed Back Units for on/off and throttling position indication; Hand Pump and quick connections in stainless steel; Special lining surface.
