Igatpuri has long been considered as a Railway Junction in most minds thanks mainly due to the 1970 Hindi movie The Train. But Igatpuri located 138 km. North East of Mumbai on the Mumbai-Nashik road, at a height of 2,000ft above sea level has all the trappings of a convincing weekend escape from Mumbai. It is cooler round the year and guarded by tall green hills. The best time to visit is June-February. Igatpuri is covered by the Sahyadris from all the sides and is a small hill station. During monsoons, the place gives a picturesque view with greenery all around and hills hiding their heads behind the mist. Places of Interest: Bhatsa River Valley Located just before entering Igatpuri, at the end of the ThalGhat. Camel Valley Located a few metres away from Bhatsa river Valley, is the camel valley famous for spectacular waterfall formed by the rain waters, which fall from a height of 1000 ft onto the base of the valley. Ghatandevi Temple (temple of the Goddess of Ghats) Behind the temple lies the Tringalwadi Fort ,the mountains of DurvarUtvad, Trimak and Harihar, stand behind, forming a spectacular backdrop. The Five Waterfalls - A little further from Ghatandevi, across the railway line, are five waterfalls that form a breathtaking sight. The path to this place is a little difficult and the best time to visit is the rainy season. Lakes of Igatpuri Igatpuri is home to many lakes, namely the lake owned by the municipality, the railways lake, the Talegaon Lake and so on. The lakesides are the best places to spend a peaceful and soothing evening. Dhammagiri This place is known for Vipassana- a Buddhist style meditation and attracts lots of visitors from India and abroad. There are enough of good hotels and resorts at Igatpuri and is a ideal monsoon getaway over weekends.
