Monorail Network
A Monorail Network covering 42 km has been proposed in three phases. In the first phase, the connectivity would be between Balkum and Kolshet via Naupada. It will be 16.05 km long with 14.65 km elevated, and only 1.4 km on the surface, and 11 stations in all.

The Ghodbunder Road locale has huge potential for real estate development. From a time when it was seen as Mumbai's 'sister city', Thane has emerged to be a global standard residential destination, a city of choice, thanks to infrastructure and this has played a major role in the appreciation in values of premium segment homes. Industry pundits say they would not be surprised to see the prices moving upwards - homes costing above Rs 10,000 per sq ft would not be just in Old Thane, this might become an integral part of Thane's residential real estate scene, as we go into 2010.
Price Point
The most important factor for this is the price point, given that Thane is still dominated by Middle Income Groups when it comes to majority of end users in the market, barring a few pockets like Hiranandani Estates, Hiranandani Meadows and Siddhachal, which are perceived to be a base for Upper Middle class / Business class buyers.
Rail hub
Thane has good connectivity to the neighbouring areas through the Central Railway network. Thane has gained more importance in terms of railway connectivity to Navi Mumbai due to the Thane-Vashi and Thane -Panvel local train line. This year, fast trains have also started between Thane and Panvel. Almost all trains going to Konkan Railway from Mumbai halt at Thane.
SATIS
The Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) project at Thane railway station is already functional, with the two flyovers on either side of the station having opened up for public use. This mega project is perhaps, one of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)'s biggest dreams and with this dream slowly becoming a reality, life will become even easier for Thaneites.
