Joyce Kilmer. 18861918 Trees I THINK that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in summer wear A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. 10

POETRY

1. Background. This poem was not mention to some specific tree but for the trees in general in the whole world. He inspired from the trees in the upstairs of bedroom, out of the window there are many kinds of trees, he thought that we human can never surpass the beauty of nature

2. Type of poem. The type of this poem is personification, because in personification the human characteristics is given to the object, the object in here are the trees, for example the physical characteristics of human : Mouth, arm, hair. And also in this poem he put the charateristics of woman like Mouth and Breast

3. Figurative language. The poem Trees has Rhyme as the figurative language, because in this poem the same sounds is repeated in the end of line. (see and tree, prest and breast, day and pray, wear and hair, lain and rain, me and tree). Aa bb cc dd ee aa

4. Analize. I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree In these two lines the poet wanted to tell that he didn`t expect to saw a great creation of God,he realized that the trees is so beautifull, so he got inspired to make a poem

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the sweet earth`s flowing breast In the next third and forth lines the poet saw that trees whose hungry it mouth (root) is pressed to the ground to search any food, in here the earth as the mother who always served the food to make the tree survive it can also happen in human life

POETRY

A tree looks at God all day And lifts her leafy arms to pray It can compare with the human, the tree look at God all day, same as human always make the worship and praise God every day, the trees lifts her leafy arms to pray same as human, the lift their hands to pray.

A tree that may in summer wear A nest of robins in her hair. In here the tree also can be the shelter or the place to some birds in summer, the trees also provided the place for living, she (tree) cover the birds from the hard life in summer

Under whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. In their place they has a season called winter, that season always snowing, when the snow fall down, it cover the trees, especially the trunk, but because the trees is has the strenght to survive. when the rain is coming the trees will be more healthy and growing because rain gives the food and make the trees fresh, so the trees cant separated with the rain.

Poems are made by fools like me But only God can make a tree. In the last the poet claimed that just can make a poem to create something that is not worthy if comparing with creating things like tree, and there is no one can create trees but only God can, because He is the creator of everything
