President’s Message

I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and new, and for my family.
-Will Carleton

During this month of Thanksgiving I always like to take time to reflect on the things I am grateful for. The
quote above embodies exactly how I feel; I am most grateful for my friends and family. I am thankful to them
because it is these relationships that bring joy and pleasure to my life. It is hard to imagine where I would be
without these relationships. I feel that it is my friends and family that have shaped me into the woman and
mother that I am today. It is through their acts of kindness, words of encouragement, and calls of concern or
advice that have helped me to make it through the good times and the bad.

This is also why I am so grateful to the MOM’S Club and the ladies that I have met while being a part of it.
The genuine kindness, thoughtful advice and caring nature of our members remind me that good friends are
always close by. Whenever you need a friend to lean on, something to do or someone to help you through
“one of those days” - the MOM’S Club is there. Although I know that many of us have been caught up in the
day to day rush and the responsibilities of our families, I am grateful to everyone who makes our club a great
MOM’S Club. I am grateful to those who completed the survey and gave us feedback on how to improve our
club. I am thankful to those who volunteer their time and talents to make our club run efficiently. Most of all,
I am grateful to each of you for knowing what it means to be a mom and helping each other to be the very best
at it!

That said, I hope that you too will reflect on the things that you are thankful for this Thanksgiving. I hope that
you and your families enjoy being together and savor what a blessing it is to family and friends to share this
holiday with. Lastly, I wish you and your families a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving!

Your president,
Nina Garcia

MOMS of the Month

Kristin Akridge: I am originally from New Jersey - yes, I am a Yankee, and please don't think of Newark Airport
when you think of New Jersey. I grew up blocks away from the beach in a very quaint little town. I moved from
NJ to VA (outside of DC) in 1989 and lived there about 8 years. I met my husband, Mike while working in VA
and from there we moved here in 1996.
Some of you know, I have three girls and we are ALL about horses. I love to ride and if I had one wish, it
would be to own a farm house with a front porch that looked out over a horse pasture. I would sit and rock and
watch my horses graze. For right now, I ride when I can at a barn near by and two of my girls do also. The barn is
our "happy place". My other hobby is making photo montage DVD's. I have done many of my girls but also do
them for weddings and preschool graduations.

MOMS Club® of Woodstock, Georgia—November 2008 Newsletter http://www.geocities.com/woodstockmomsclub2000/index.html

Some favorite travel places are Colorado for skiing, Jamaica for honeymoon, and Disney World and seeing
that through my kids' eyes. My favorite shows are "Dancing with the Stars" and "Grey's Anatomy". Maxim and
McDreamy!!!! For those of you that watch those shows, you know what I'm talking about.
Thanks for letting me share a little about myself. I look forward to learning more about the other Moms of
the month.

Tiffany Howard: I am Tiffany Howard. I grew up in Ithaca N.Y. I received a Bachelor's

Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina (Go Heels) and a Master's
Degree in Education from the University of Long Island at CW Post. I am certified to
teach pre-K through 8th grade. I moved to Georgia in 1997 and I taught in the Fulton
County School district for 6 years (3rd grade and Kindergarten). I taught Pre-k part –time
for the past two years in Buckhead.
I have been married for 5 years to Gene whom I met here in GA. He grew up in Athens,
GA. We have two beautiful boys: Jack 3.5 years old and a new baby Camden, 2 months old. We love to travel as a
family and this past year have been to N.C., Bahamas, Arizona, Florida, Tennessee, New York, and Virginia. My
husband turns 40 this summer so we are planning a big trip for the two of us without the kids.
I love being a mom, but in my free time I like to go out with friends, go to the movies, have parties at our house,
and scrapbook. I also like to cook and when I was home with my first child I got addicted to Rachel Ray! I love
making her yummy 30 minute meals. I also love to decorate for all the holidays and making family memories. It is
even more rewarding this year to see my oldest son get really excited about our holiday traditions.

Betty Miller: I am proud to say that I am a true GRITS (Girl Raised In The South) being a native
Atlantan, born at Northside Hospital. I grew up in Decatur and earned my BSN from Georgia Baptist
College of Nursing in 1994. That same year I also married my husband, Brian, and we moved to
Roswell. We enjoy traveling, dining out, watching movies, Braves games and fun activities with our
Corvette Club. Our two sons were also born at Northside Hospital. Brian Kevin, JR was born
prematurely and lived for only two weeks before we lost him in the summer of 2003 and then our
miracle baby, Joseph Brian, born Thanksgiving 2004. Joey is a happy and healthy little boy...he is
truly a blessing!
Being a mom is definitely, by far, the most rewarding job that I've ever had! Before mommyhood, I
worked as a RN for ten years and now am a WAHM (Work At Home Mom) for Heritage Makers, a storybook
company. If someone gave me $1000 I would use it for a project called Storybooks for Healing: Binding Hearts
Together--my personal vision to provide bereaved parents with storybooks in memory of their beloved children,
because every story deserves a book of its own.
I joined the MOMS Club in May 2005 and have enjoyed many different activities as well as many
friendships. I currently serve as our Club's Chapter Historian. I enjoy reading, Jazzercise, watching TV, volunteer
work and fun stuff with my family and friends. I live in Willow Tree neighborhood with Brian, Joey and our
Siamese cat.

**Thanks to everyone who participated in our MOMS of the Month program. It was great to get to know a little
more about you. According to my records, everyone has had the opportunity to participate. If I inadvertently
overlooked your name, please accept my apologies and let me know if you'd like to write about yourself in next
month's newsletter. If you didn't write about yourself when your name was drawn and you'd like to do so now,
we'd be glad to hear about you too. Thanks! Catherine Moore**
