Made-in-China fasteners are gradually losing their manufacturing advantages of low cost and low price. The key to solve this problem is that the industry should accelerate transformation and upgrade in terms of brand building, technological innovation, strategic layout, industrial structure, etc., which also means Chinese fastener companies require more and more imported advanced technologies, equipment, molds & dies and supporting services so that they can achieve their goals. Meanwhile, there is a massive market for fasteners in China. It was estimated that there are over 20,000 fastener and related companies in China. Freedonia forecasts that Chinese fastener output is expected to rise even faster than the countrys demand through 2014. Chinese suppliers will easily surpass US-based producers by 2014, and the country will become the worlds leading manufacturer. Foreign firms will continue to establish manufacturing facilities in China to take advantage of lower production costs. Apparently, China is embracing opportunities for its larger domestic consumption, continuous manufacturing and investment activity while encountering a great many challenges. For overseas companies, China is the right market to expand. China Fastener Info, as the most popular and professional fastener media in China, now has over 72,000 registered supplier and buyer members and offers three approaches (website, magazine and trade show) to help expand the Chinese fastener market . Besides, the 6th Fastener Trade Show scheduled for November 11-12, 2011, at the Poly World Trade Expo Center, Guangzhou, China, can offer you a good and effective way to enter into the potential Chinese market. While your customers and competitors turn their eyes on China, why not take actions to study the Chinese fastener industry and get ready for the promising Chinese market?

Yuyao Xintais good faith and truth with customers are the keys to its success.
For its commitment Yuyao Xintai Hardware established a comprehensive quality management system. Strict quality test should be implemented in every producing stage, from material selection to shipment. The first test should be conducted in the selection of raw materials, and the day-to-day check should be carried out in the manufacture of anchors. Besides, strict and careful quality test should be performed on the finished products. Check controls should also be conducted even before the delivery. Anchors produced by Yuyao Xintai cannot be finally left China mainland and sent to the overseas continents until a series of tests or checks. And through these series of quality tests, every anchor delivered from Yuyao Xintai is of high quality. . 32 .

There is no complaint from our customers since our inception; and many customers keep coming back and orders from them see a significant increase.
On top of its 100% customer-satisfaction in quality, Yuyao Xintai also devotes itself to 100% customer-satisfaction in service. Providing excellent service for every customer is a must-know principle for every employee in Yuyao Xintai Hardware. From the sending and confirming of the samples to their delivery, as well as after-sales service, staff of Yuyao Xintai should make sure that their service makes all customers feel 100% satisfied. Whether they are trifles or big problems, staff of Yuyao Xintai will spare no effort to help customers deal with them whenever they make customers feel troublesome, Mr. Ying said.
There are two reasons that we build the new plant in this year. First, strong demand comes from overseas markets, Yuyao Xintai has built a strong reputation in overseas markets in the recent years and the companys sales keep increasing. So we have to increase our production volume. Second, we should launch new products to meet the new demand from some markets, Mr. Ying commented, The establishment of the new plant is quite necessary. More new plants will be built with our strong development in the future.
For its 100% customer-satisfaction principle in both quality and service, Yuyao Xintais sales surged 57 percent in 2010
For its 100% customer-satisfaction principle in both quality and service, Yuyao Xintais sales surged 57 percent in 2010 compared with that of 2009. Sales can also gain 30 percent in 2011 impacted by the unfavorable economic situations such as European debt crisis, slow growth of Americas economy, reminbis appreciation and the increase of labor and production cost.
Expansion
Yuyao Xintai has to expand its scale for its increasingly large customer base. Therefore, the company decided to build another new plant. The new plant of over 1000 square meters has come into use since the first half of 2011, which mainly produces wedge anchors and special fasteners. You can catch a busy view if you come to Yuyao Xintais new plant. Tens of cold heading machines are working and employees are busy with those small but fine anchors.

Ms Yue also noted that, Our competitive advantage is our ability of new product launch, fast response and delivery. We have a leadership conversant with management and business expansion; we have a R&D group capable of innovation; we have a full set of state-of-the-art cold-heading equipment and detecting instrument; all of these can ensure the precision and quality of the non-standard products launch. Besides, we attach great importance to the after sale service and responses to customers needs, which can help customers solve problems as soon as possible. Only by these can we earn trust and recognition from more customers. Every step we took in the past decade cannot be done without support from our customers. Peter Ferdinand Drucker, the best-known and most widely influential thinker on management once said that, in the age of the internet, there is one challenge for companies, that is speed. Those who can meet customers demands in fast speed can get more customers. You can win as long as you can achieve zero distance between you and your customers. Obviously, Chaoyi Screw knows this well for it has been focusing on the comprehensive and professional customer service for ten years. Quality has been the pulse of our company. We invest substantial expenditure into the research and development, increase software equipment and carry on staff training every year to better meet customers need worldwide. We established a new subsidiary in Dalian in 2007 due to our business expansion and to provide better service for customers in the north China. The Dalian branch together with the south China headquarter can make Chaoyi Screws marketing network system cover the whole country, which helps increase Chaoyi Screws market share, Ms Yue continued. The ten-year rich experience, dedicated talent pool and outstanding service have made Chaoyi Screw build high repuw w w.c h i n a f a s t e n e r. i n f o

tation among famous enterprises in the fierce competition. Chaoyi Screw has become appointed supplier for many listed companies such as Sata Works, Hsin Lung Accessories, etc., and has been the Excellent Supplier for years. Chaoyi Screw will keep improving and updating itself to seek for a new path so as to keep up with the changeable market environment and meet customers needs. The theory of constantly satisfying customers needs has been injected into every employees blood. Ms Yue disclosed that Chaoyi Screw will gradually shift its focus to auto parts by virtue of its strength in R&D as Chinas auto industry develops. The company now engages in the certification of TS16949. In addition, Chaoyi Screw will build another new plant and introduce more advanced multi-station cold headers to enlarger its production capacity. As to Chaoyi Screws future plan, Ms Yue remarked that, The past decade to Chaoyi Screw is merely a course. Everything just starts. We will continue to insist on self-reliant innovation and service, working for the day that our dream--Chaoyi Screw, Fastening the World--comes true. We firmly believe that day will come soon.

Becoming a Green Fastener Enterprise Ningbo Zhenhai Hexin Standard Component Co., Ltd.
Reported by China Fastener Info
owadays the decreasing of natural resources has become a severe problem we should deal with. The hikes of iron ore price should also be attributed to the serious shortage of non-renewable resources. Energy saving, environment protection and sustainable development have become the advocated themes of the harmonious development around the world. And building a green fastener company is just the goal that Ningbo Zhenhai Hexin Standard Component Co., Ltd has been striving to achieve, which in return, became the key factor that helped Hexin gain higher profit in the war of steel price. An interview with Mr. Fan, general manager of Ningbo Zhenhai Hexin Standard Component Co., Ltd. helped us to find out how Hexin successfully protected the limited resources, reduced waste and took precautions against environmental pollution, etc.
material. Fastener industry is a raw material intensive, labor-intensive and resource-consuming sector. Therefore, economization in fastener industry is very important. Every company when actively increasing output also should reduce the use of resources, which is a more effective way to increase profit.
CFI: The fastener industry to some extent can cause pollution. What measures have Hexin taken to deal with this issue?
Mr. Fan: Hexin does well in this issue. We successfully reduce the pollution to almost zero during the whole processing by well managing the internal environmental protection, introducing stateof-the-art processing technique and replacing the outdated equipment.

Fourth, they are firmly sealed and highly anti-corrosive with good appearance. Most importantly, they are all made by environmentalfriendly materials. Meeting ROHS standard, our products find a ready market in Europe, where high safety parameter for standard parts is requested.
CFI: Hexin was established in 2004. Would you like to tell me something about your company?
Mr. Fan: Our company covers an area of over 6000 sq meters with 60 sets of advanced equipment. We have just around 60 employees because 80 percent of our production is automated. Our annual production volume reaches 40 million pieces with sales volume of over RMB 10 million.
CFI: Rivet nuts and special parts are Hexins most competitive products. Would you like to tell me their competitive edge?
Mr. Fan: We are extremely strict with our product quality. They demonstrate several advantages. First, they are highly precise. Just take the special parts for example. Their shapes and specifications are not uniform but we can precisely make to customers standards with zero
CFI: Recently, the steel price has been rising . Does it have a great impact on your companies orders?
Mr. Fan: The impact is less because the amount of steel we use is quite little. We use the new once cold forming technique which helps save us much
CFI: Would you like to tell me your main overseas markets? And what is the proportion of overseas markets and domestic markets in sales?
Mr. Fan: Our products are exported to America, Europe, Australia, India, etc. Overseas market share takes up 30 percent of the total sales.

CFI: It was reported that Hexin is going to expand its markets and make great achievement in the following two or three years. Then by which ways are you going to achieve this goal?
Mr. Fan: We will try to find our customers by advertising and taking part in fairs. Exhibiting in fairs is a good way for us to communicate with customers

Conclusion
Reviewing the ups and downs of this antidumping case between China and EU, we can see that Chinas fastener companies have experienced a course from the negative response to active defense, who finally achieved success. When facing such kind of unfair treatment, Chinese fastener companies have started to arm themselves with safeguard measures of WTO regulations and fight for their legal rights and interests.

However, the victory does not mean we can take a rest, for the EU would not be so quick to modify or withdraw the antidumping duties and even some news says the EU would re-investigate this case in the future. In order to avoid antidumping cases, Chinese fastener companies are advised to seek measures as soon as possible, establish an effective pre-warning mechanism, change the current unfavorable situation, upgrade the industry, develop value-added products and enhance their competitive edge. As a result, we need to be stronger enough to allow the world to hear our voices and demonstrate the strength of Chinese fastener manufacturers. At this point, there is still a long way to go for the whole Chinese fastener industry.

China witnessed a fast development in the past decade, and this trend will continue in the coming decade, indicating great demand for fastener uses. Lets see the statistics compiled by China Fastener Info which show how great potential Chinese market has: Chinas Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew a faster-thanexpected 10.3% in 2010, becoming the worlds second-largest economy. Chinas economic growth rate may slow at 9.6% but can encourage more sustainable growth. China accounted for 19.8% of global production in 2010, slightly higher than the 19.4% of the United States. China auto sales rose 32% in 2010 to 18.06 million units and the total auto production rose 32.4% to 18.26 million units. China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) expected auto sales growth to slow in 2011 to 10%-15% with the sales and production of over 20 million units. According to the governments Renewable Energy Resource for 12 Five-Year Plan, Chinas installed capacity of wind energy, nuclear energy and solar energy will reach 150 million KW, 80 million KW and 20 million KW, respectively, which will bring huge business profit for related equipment manufacturers. China will need around 4000 new planes in the next 20 years, a massive market for aircraft manufacturers. Chinas total highway length increased from 41,000 kilometers to 74,000 kilometers during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010). Minister of Transport Li Shenglin predicted that the countrys total length of highway will surpass that of the US to over 90,000 kilometers during the 12th Five-Year Plan. Moreover, China is expected to double its high-speed rail track length from its current 5,193 miles to 9,942 miles by 2015. . 76 .
Chinas demand for fasteners will show the strongest in Asian/Pacific region with an annual increase of 12.8% through 2014 Freedonia reported. Chinese fastener output is forecast to rise even faster than the countrys demand through 2014, and China will become the worlds leading manufacturer. The population of China is around 1.339 billion people in 2010, guaranteeing a huge market for fasteners. From the statistics above, we can see that there is an enormous market for fasteners in China. And the 6th Guangzhou Fastener Trade Show, scheduled for November 11-12, 2011 at Poly World Trade Expo Center, Guangzhou, China, aims to help overseas fastener professionals to expand their business in this market. With the theme of Globalization, Innovation and based on its successful record of the 5th Suzhou Fastener Trade Show, the show will expect around 400 companies exhibiting all kinds of fasteners, equipment, tools & moulds, surface treatment and raw materials to more than 12,000 visitors from the world. As a large international professional fastener exhibition in the world, Fastener Trade Show organized by China Fastener Info has attracted a myriad of fastener professionals and generated numerous profitable deals between suppliers and purchasers since its launch in 2008. It not only provides the best place for fastener businessmen to successfully explore domestic and overseas markets, get business opportunities, develop business relationships and get industry developmental trend, but also be the only top festival in fastener industry that includes trade show, forum, award ceremony and face-to-face communication which is valuable and effective. Carlo Salvi (Guangzhou) Machinery and Equipment: The Reasons for a Choice
It is well known that the aerospace and automotive Chinese market is continuously growing and this restless growth, which goes on for another 4 or 5 years, together with the fact that many of our customers transferred their production activities in the Chinese territory, motivated us to open our own subsidiary in China. It is becoming always more important to be where the market is. These are the words of Dr. Sergio Ziotti, CEO of Carlo Salvi S.p.A., who would like to explain to the readers the reasons for this choice. The newest Carlo Salvi subsidiary is located in Guangzhou, in the Guangdong province, where the automotive field is highly expanding also the Italian producer FIAT is opening a factory there. Even the key position of the province is an aspect that influenced positively the choice. The main aims we have when we decided to open Carlo Salvi Guangzhou continued Dr. Ziotti , is to promote commercially our products, to guarantee a technical service on site to those customers who have already opened their factories in China. In Guangzhou there is a complete technical and commercial staff ready to serve the customer. The maintenance and after sale services are granted thanks to an equipped workshop and on the show room nearby it is possible to see a completely tooled up and running machine of the series 1 die 2 blow. Carlo Salvi foresees to place on the Chinese market all its products, particularly focusing on serving the aeronautical and automotive fields. We know the Chinese territory is very wide and the subsidiary in Guangzhou is only the first step. Through the commercial and technical net we are creating thanks to our Guangzhou branch, we plan to serve all the Chinese provinces with help of agents and distributors.

Gem-Year Cuts Profit Forecast by 50% for First Three Quarters
On August 18, Gem-Year Industrial forecasts its net profit will drop 50 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2011 due to uncertainties in the high-speed railway parts market. In an interim report Gem-Year said high-speed train accidents happen frequently and have affected related parts biddings and existing contracts settlements. The companys net profit fell 12.05 percent to 105 million yuan in the first half despite 21.16 percent revenue growth to 1.54 billion yuan. General fastening pieces revenue rose 24.77 percent to 443.73 million yuan in the first half while revenue from high-speed railway parts slipped 7.29 percent to 485.25 million yuan. Gem-Year said the yuans appreciation, higher labor costs, material, energy, and fierce competition also caused its earnings to drop. Employees in Gem-Year were asked to take a special leave for its low profit and most of the production line for high-speed fasteners had been stopped. Gem-Years high-speed rail fastener revenue reached 1.37 billion yuan, accounting for 47.27 percent of its total revenue of 2.89 billion yuan in 2010.
Three Fastener Companies Receive the Largest Amount of Credit Insurance Compensation
Recently, three fastener companies - Haiyan Dayu Fasteners Co., Ltd., Haiyan Chaoqiang Standard Parts Co., Ltd. and Haiyan Hengye Fastener Co., Ltd. - have received the compensation of RMB 11.22 million from China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (CECIC), making it the largest amount of such kind of compensation in Haiyan, China. According to CECIC, the risk of export in Haiyan has been high for a period of time. In the first 6 months, the declared amount reached USD 7 million. The experts pointed out that the industry cannot ignore the risk a long-term business partner may cause and should aggressively utilize the resources of credit insurance in order to control the potential risk effectively.

China Steel Output Dip in August, Baosteel Up Oct Prices s
Reuters reported on September 13 that Chinas crude steel output fell 0.9 percent to 58.75 million tonnes in August from the previous month as several steel mills reduced production due to maintenance, official figures showed. Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday showed that Chinas daily crude steel output fell below 1.9 million tonnes for the first single month this year, with the mills scheduling maintenance to take advantage of weak consumption season over the summer period. Steel output declined for July and August mainly due to big mills maintenance, but the production over the next few months may find it difficult to climb as rapidly as the first half, said Du Hui, steel analyst with Qilu Securities in Shanghai. Chinas average daily steel output stood at above 1.9 million tonnes this year, hitting a record 1.998 million tonnes per day in June, compared with an average 1.7 million tonnes last year, as mills positioned themselves to take advantage of strong demand from construction activities, particularly the social housing programme. We dont expect steel production to fall from here, said Graeme Train, analyst with Macquarie Commodities Research. While construction appears to be stagnating, there are signs that manufacturing demand is bottoming out and seasonal consumption should help provide some lift into the final quarter of the year, Train said. Chinas industrial output grew 13.5 percent in August from a year earlier, slowing from Julys 14 percent annual rise, with the yearly growth still likely to be 13.5 percent in 2011, Chinas industry ministry said on September 13. Chinas total steel production accumulated to 469.3 million tonnes for the first eight months this year, up 11 percent from the same period of last year, bureau data showed. Demand Outlook Wary Chinas top listed steelmaker Baoshan Iron & Steel said on September 13 it will raise its main steel product prices for October bookings, while Chinas tightening moves is expected to continue curbing large restocking by end users. Its a bit surprising to see the firm hiking prices, which mainly reflects high raw materials cost, but there is little chance for prices to go up further as demand for flat products remains fragile, said a senior steel trader in Beijing. The company, known as Baosteel, led its domestic peers in price increases for September in anticipation of improving demand in the traditional consumption season. Hot-rolled coil prices will be 60 yuan ($9) a tonne higher while prices for cold-rolled coil prices will go up 50 yuan for basic grade. And other flat products see similar rises. Meanwhile, Wuhan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. also raise prices for hot-rolled coil, cold-rolled coil and other products ranging from 30 yuan to 100 yuan per tonne for October. However, the global economic turmoil as well as the impact of monetary tightening by Chinas central bank is expected to weigh on steel market in the worlds largest steel producer and consumer. The lack of credit affects buyers willingness to build and hold inventory so even if real demand holds up, we are unlikely to see strong restocking activity in the near term, Train said. Baosteels net profits fell 37 percent in the first half of 2011, and the companys poor performance was partly blamed on soaring raw material prices. The China Iron & Steel Association warned that demand for flat steel products will see little growth in the months ahead, suggesting major state-owned steel companies may continue to suffer squeezing profit margins for the remaining course of this year.

KAMAX GmbH & Co. KG Continues to Be Imposed Low Anti-dumping Duties
China levied anti-dumping duties on carbon steel fasteners imported from European Union since June 29, 2010. It set a final duty ranging from 6.1 percent to 26 percent (KAMAX-Werke Rudolf Kellermann GmbH & Co. KG, 6.1%; all others, 26.0%) on imports of carbon steel fasteners from the EU. KAMAX GmbH & Co. KG applied for 6.1 percent duty on July 12, 2011 after its reconstruction from the previous companyKAMAX-Werke Rudolf Kellermann GmbH & Co. KG. Thus, the Ministry of Commerce decided that KAMAX GmbH & Co. KG could carry on the previous rights and obligation in the carbon steel fastener anti-dumping case. That is China only imposes 6.1 percent duties on imports from KAMAX GmbH & Co. KG. However, imports in the name of KAMAX-Werke Rudolf Kellermann GmbH & Co. KG will be imposed 26.0 percent anti-dumping duties as that of the other European companies.

Darling predicted higher prices from Taiwan in the next quarter and the following quarter could climb higher depending on the Q2 steel price announcement. Everyone believes steel prices will eventually come down, but each quarter they push those predictions forward. In China all the indicators point to higher prices, Darling said. Flooding in Australia and Brazil hiked iron ore contracts. There are rumors that steel will increase 66% in 2011, Daring reported. However, we see price increase in the 10% to 15% range for the immediate future, with another 5% to 8% for the remainder of the year. Electricity is an issue during hot months with rolling blackouts shutting production temporarily. Pollution is a major government issue and is causing the closure of production at many steel mills, contributing to a shortage of steel and increase of prices, Darling observed. There is little plant expansion in China, he noted. There is growing demand for fasteners with the fast development of high speed railroad and wind power in China. Darling said fastener factories that are 100% export are having a difficult time.
Reversals of ITC preliminary determinations are very rare, and the reversal in the fasteners case demonstrates that the original determination was deeply flawed, said Alan Price of Wiley Rein LLP in Washington, DC, counsel to Nucor Fastener Division, a domestic producer of fasteners. There is no doubt that U.S. fastener companies and their workers are being injured by dumped imports from China and Taiwan. The court remanded the case back to the ITC for a new determination. The ITC is scheduled to issue that determination by December 7, 2011. The original investigation was initiated with estimated dumping margins of 145 percent for Chinese imports and 74 percent for imports from Taiwan. Nucor Fastener is one of the last remaining producers of standard fasteners in the United States, and many of those still in existence have been forced to dramatically slash production, resulting in significantly decreased operating income, profits, production workers and wages. If were going to have jobs in the United States, then we need to make fasteners and other products here, said Mr. Price. Requiring goods to be sold at non-dumped and subsidized prices will bring jobs back to the United States.
CIT Remands Preliminary Determination of ITC in Antidumping Investigation of Certain Standard Steel Fasteners from China Mainland and Taiwan
On 20 September 2011, the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) released its public decision remanding the negative preliminary determination of the International Trade Commission (ITC) in the antidumping investigation of Certain Standard Steel Fasteners from the Peoples Republic of China and Taiwan. The case stemmed from a 2009 petition brought by the Fastener Division of Nucor Corporation alleging that U.S. producers face material injury from dumped imports of Chinese and Taiwanese fasteners. In remanding the case, the CIT handed domestic fastener producers an important victory in their efforts to combat dumped imports.
USITC Will Conduct Expedited Five-Year (Sunset) Reviews Concerning Helical Spring Lock Washers from China and Taiwan
The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC or Commission) has voted to expedite its five-year (sunset) reviews concerning the antidumping duty orders on helical spring lock washers from China and Taiwan (Inv. Nos. 731-TA-624625 (Third Review)). As a result of these votes, the Commission will conduct expedited reviews to determine whether revocation of these orders would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.

The record of the Commissions votes is posted on the USITCs Internet site at http://info.usitc.gov/oinv/sunset.NSF (under Helical Spring Lock Washers - China and Helical Spring Lock Washers - Taiwan).

We have been working with our lenders to secure more flexible working capital arrangements for some time and would certainly have preferred to keep this out of the courts, but this action ultimately provided an appropriate forum to restructure and provide for our future growth, Grabner said. Jeff Grabner, vice president and head of the companys wind business, said earlier this week that Cardinal had been losing business to European parts makers who had underbid Cardinal and had reduced its workforce from 65 a year ago to about 50. Cardinals complaints and the complaints of other wind chain supply companies prompted GLWN (Great Lakes Wind Network) to call a national conference here on July 13 and 14 to find a way to help U.S. suppliers. Ed Weston, GLWNs director, said Cardinal is not alone. I have spoken with three Cleveland companies recently, all of whom lost business or are facing an imminent financial threat, he said.

Cardinal Fastener & Specialty Co., the Bedford Heights boltmaker that became a supplier to the U.S. and European wind turbine industry in 2007, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Thursday and suspended operations. Company president John Grabner, in an emailed statement, said the voluntary filing was necessary largely as a result of an impasse in negotiations with Wells Fargo, our primary lender, regarding working capital financing.

TRW will also expand its electrically powered steering and electronics plant in Anting, China; its braking joint venture in Nanjing, China; its occupant safety joint venture in Chengdu; and its fasteners plant in Ningbo. Plant concluded: TRW has the right manufacturing footprint and product portfolio to support its growth plans. While we are investing heavily to support the tremendous growth in China, Brazil and India, we continue to focus on developing advanced technologies to support our global vehicle manufacturer customers.
The acquisition is Graingers largest deal in 15 years. Graingers overseas expansion strategy has primarily been focused on Asia and South America, but the company viewed Fabory as an opportunity for making inroads into Europe, where Grainger has found expansion difficult to achieve. Grainger said Fabory will give Grainger the size and scale to compete effectively in Europe, which Grainger described as the worlds largest market for maintenance, repair and operations supplies and products. Because Europe is much more consolidated [than Asia and South America] and a much more mature market, [expansion] had to be through a scale player, said Chairman and Chief Executive Jim Ryan during a conference call with analysts Monday. This is a company that were very familiar with. Weve been following them for years. This gives us access to a management team that knows that market well. Fabory Groups CEO, Oswald van den Belt, will continue to head the company under Grainger, which expects to complete the purchase by the end of September.
Antidumping Duty Imposed on Chinese Fasteners Leads to Product Availability Problem in Italy
On 25 May, the first National Convention of Italian Hardware Distributors was staged in Parma. The event was organized by the Unione Distributori Italiani Bulloneria (UDIB) with the participation of major distributors offering industrial fasteners to the domestic market. The convention focused on the growing problems in product availability resulting, says UDIB, from a disproportionate rise in prices of finished products and trade barriers on imported fasteners imposed by the European Commission. Structural problems in the rapidly evolving fastener sector were also discussed, with particular emphasis on the difficulties in development often created as strict new regulations come into force. . 87 .

Mr. Enea DIncecco, president of UDIB also spoke about the impact of raw materials and other factors on the cost of fasteners. This issue is today more relevant than ever! As a result of many factors, including the rising cost of raw material, the price of our product is dramatically increasing. The imposition of antidumping duties on imported products from China is also playing a key role in driving up prices. The product availability problem is greater than ever, he continued. The application of antidumping duty blocked all imports from China, forcing the market to meet demand without having the same offer from European producers. This effect is most evident on the lower cost per kilogram products, where Chinese production had largely compensated for the lack of EU manufacturing.

While noting that the offence occurred ten years ago EFDA says that the case serves to show that circumvention is not worth the risk involved and reiterates its own commitment to free and fair trade.

Comments from FASTENER TECH 11 participants included the following:
FASTENER TECH 11 was great. Very active aisles as attendance was very strong Chicago as a host city for a fastener show makes so much sense. Its a great turnout, the people in Chicago always put on a good show. I think its a very good regional show, and it has a very nice attendance. I dont know that the suppliers who are exhibiting feel that there are as many distributors here as they would have liked. But for a distributor, its a wonderful opportunity to see people. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the show this year. Having the show in Rosemont along with SUR/FIN turned this into an excellent venue. I would hope that this model would get serious consideration for all future shows. The next FASTENER TECH will be offered in June of 2013 in Rosemont, IL, USA, and efforts are under way for another co-location with SUR/FIN. anufacturing Expo Thailand 2011, Thailands largest manufacturing and supporting industries event, grandly opened On June 23-26, 2011 at BITEC,
As usual, China Fastener Info (CFI) as the supporting media attended the show and distributed the latest China Fastener Directory(CFD) and invitation letters of the 6th Fastener Trade Show (November 11-12, 2011, Poly World Trade Expo Center, Guangzhou, China). In addition to Automotive Manufacturing Thailand, Manufacturing Expo Thailand was composed of another six shows: InterPlas Thailand 2011, InterMold Thailand 2011, Assembly Technology 2011, Industrial Component and Subcontracting 2011, Industrial Energy and Environment 2011, NEPCON Thailand 2011 and INDEE Bangkok 2011.The show successfully attracted more than 700 exhibitors from In order to promote the relevant forums and conferences, the organizer arranges a group of young ladies to parade the exhibition hall. 30 countries with totally 1,500 brands and 42,000 visitors from the world. Representatives of CFI found that Thai auto part market had great potential. First, according to Mr. Vallop Tiasiri, the president of Thailand Automotive Institute, car production in Thailand for 2011 is expected to jump a stunning 60 percent and Thailand will produce 1.6 million vehicles this year. And the vehicle production in Thailand is projected to exceed 2 million units by 2014 or 2015. Since Thailand is a key market in ASEAN, it is expected that its vehicle sales will reach 3 million units in the next few years.
Second, Japans auto industrial chain has been heavily interrupted by earthquake, a large number of Japanese car manufacturers have transferred their industry to Thailand, which creates a great opportunity for Thai local companies to expand their business. This exhibition to some extent was considered as a warming-up competition for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
However, with the rapid growth of Thailands automotive industry, auto parts makers must arm themselves with higher technology to handle the tighter production schedules to catch up with the soaring local consumption and exports.
Exhibitors were mostly from Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, etc., and some were from India, South Korea, Japan, China mainland, Taiwan, etc. The majority of the visitors were from Thailand and the neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia. It should be highlighted that the attendance of Indian buyers was quite notable due to the concurrent shows NEPCON Thailand and INDEE Bangkok, which were specifically organized for Indian exhibitors.
CFIs booth attracted a large number of buyers from well-known brands, such as Fact-Link, Mitsubishi, Kia, Toyota, Honda, Canon, etc. Most of them came from purchasing department of Japaneseowned companies in Thailand. They said that the auto component industry had been interrupted by earthquake and they hoped to buy auto components from China, too. Since Japanese auto companies attached much importance to quality, a lot of Japanese buyers wanted to know more about quality Chinese suppliers through the platform of CFI. To our surprise, many local fastener manufacturers came for the inquiries about the import of Chinese fastener equipment. It was really good news for fastener equipment makers in China because there was little fastener equipment exporting to Thailand from China.

hailand and Vietnam are major users of wire and tube solution. Thailand has a well developed in-
dustrial infrastructure with large automotive, electrical/ electronic, petroleum and petrochemical industries boosting demand. As income levels rise in the country, high levels of infrastructure spending will also be essential. In addition, Vietnams Ministry of Planning and Investment estimates that Vietnam will require some US$150-160 billion for infrastructure development through 2020. Thus the development of wire and tube in these two countries will be promising.
Whats more, demand for wire and tube solutions in Indonesia and Malaysia posts strong growth, too. GDP growth of Indonesia is forecast to remain strong in the coming years, exceeding 6 percent per annum. The Indonesia automobile industry is forecast to gain double-digit growth for the next four years, with industry estimates pointing to a doubling of production between 2010 and 2015. Besides, Indonesia will require an estimated US$150 billion of infrastructure investment over the next five years. Furthermore, Malaysia and other ASEAN economies are benefiting from a renewed emphasis on FDI in the Southeast Asian region. To consolidate its position as an investment destination, Malaysia is promoting several logistics infrastructure projects so as to accelerate demand for wire and tube solutions. With these high levels of investment in ASEAN economies and strong industry demand, ASEANs demand for industry and infrastructure is growing, which will surely drive the development of related parts, becoming the emerging overseas markets for Chinese fastener companies. For these potential emerging markets, 85 companies from China mainland and 17 companies from Taiwan experienced a special Mid-Autumn Festival this year in Bangkok just for the Wire &Tube Southeast ASIA 2011, which opened

China Fastener Info (CFI), as the only one supporting media from China mainland, attended the exhibition again (Booth A21). The organizer addressed the exhibition, expressed sincere thanks to leaders, guests and supporters and officially announced the opening of the exhibition at 10 oclock local time on Day 1. The beautiful flowers on the red arch also indicated the organizers good wishes and hopes. The exhibiting hall was packed with visitors once the opening ceremony ended. Although it was a show for the regions wire, cable, pipe and tube, there were many visitors coming for fasteners the rice of industries. Just as a saying goes, Small fasteners but great importance. magazines had been in the pockets and hands of many visitors, which could be seen in the photos taken on site. After a busy day on Day 1, China Fastener Info (CFI) on Day 2 went on to hand out China Fastener Directory (CFD) and recommended suitable suppliers to visitors with the aims of accelerating the development of Chinese fastener companies and helping them go to the world as well as encouraging bilateral trade cooperation between China and ASEAN. We also invited visitors to attend the 6th Guangzhou Fastener Trade Show scheduled for November 11-12, 2011 at Guangzhou Poly World Trade Expo Center, Guangzhou, China. If Day 1 was merely a warm-up of the exhibition, then Day 2 approached its climax. CFIs booth was crowded with many visitors. Exhibitors from China included machinery companies such as An Chen Fa Machinery, Gwolian Machinery; and wire companies including TengLong Stainless Steel Wire Group, etc. TengLong Group was the only one company that exhibited stainless steel fasteners in the exhibition. After talks with exhibitors, many of them expressed their confidence in the promising trend of Southeast Asian markets and said that they would attend the 6th Guangzhou Fastener Trade Show in November.
Mr. Xu Congzhi, business supervisor of An Chen Fa Machinery told us that they had been attending this kind of exhibition for 15 years though his companys orders had been fully booked till the next year. They are looking forward to cooperating with CFI in the future for they plan to attend more domestic shows.

China Hardware Industry Remains Steady Growth for First Half of 2011
Chinas hardware industry performed well in the first half of 2011. Import and export both surged over 40 percent in the domestic and overseas markets. However, the growth of the hardware industry may see a slowdown and the companies management may encounter challenge due to the increasing cost of energy, raw material and labor. According to statistics from China National Light Industry Information Center, the Prosperity Index (PI) of the hardware industry was 107.67 for June with the PI of 111.05 in output value, 109.85 in sales, 107.52 in export, 105.92 in capital and 100.91 in profit respectively. The Prosperity Index of the hardware industry remained steady from May 2010 to June 2011. But it showed a slight decline since February 2011 compared with the same period of 2010 though the steady trend kept unchanged. The National Bureau of Statistics released that Chinas hardware industrys output jumped 27.32 percent to RMB 307.13 billion for the first half of 2011 with sales up 27.56 percent to RMB 299.8 billion. Export shipment value jumped 16.27 percent to RMB 67.36 billion accounting for 22.46 percent of the sales, a slight decrease over the same period of 2010. Chinas hardware companies revenue rose 26.80 percent to RMB 294.33 billion with profit gained 23.85 percent to RMB 13.71 billion. There were 637 companies facing losses, accounting for 11.71 percent of all hardware companies in China, a slight decline of 3.77 percentage point year-on-year. The total losses surged 33.72 percent to RMB 822 million, which to some extent had great impact on the growth of the profit for Chinas hardware industry. According to statistics from China Customs, exports of hardware rose 44.97 percent to 19.29 billion US dollars for the first six months of 2011, achieving a trade surplus of 16.99 billion US dollars from 11.41 billion US dollars in 2010.

Exports of the category to the EU surged to 21,000 metric tons in 2010 from less than 1,000 tons in 2005. This will be likely to promote distributors to turn to Taiwan-made alternatives. Exports for second half remain growth Although the global economic downturn will extend, MIRDC analysts predicted that Taiwans fastener industry will keep growth in the second half of the year due to the strong demand from the emerging economies and buoyant global auto markets. Taiwan fastener exports is forecast to be about NT$30 billion for the third quarter, and NT$117 billion for the whole year, with full-year production value up 15% to NT$126 billion from NT$109.8 billion in 2010.
