Henry David Thoreau - Deeply in love with a woman named Ellen, whom his own brother John also loved, Henry David Thoreau penned this line in his journal on July 25th in the 1830s. Fifteen years later Thoreau retreated to his hut in the woods for two years of contemplation where he penned his great work, Walden.

Helen Keller - Blind and deaf from a childhood illness, Helen Keller became a miracle when she learned to speak sign from the inspired teachings of Anne Sullivan. However, his poem is nearly identical to a German-language poem by Eric Fried titled Ich liebe dich (I Love You). Little is known about either poem, so it is difficult to say if Croft actually wrote this poem or if he translated Frieds poem and ended up with the credit.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning - In a poem titled How Do I Love Thee, by the famed British poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning these words are written as the second line. Browning published many poems on love, especially after becoming acquainted with the writer and poet Robert Browning, who later became her husband.
