Road safety and on-board control of alcohol limits


The International Road Transport Union has published a discussion paper relating to alcohol limits for drivers and the compulsory tting of alcolocks on commercial vehicles, all in the aid of improving transport safety. Advance notice - Highways Agency
Work to introduce a managed motorway system on the M6 between junctions 5 to 8 will start at the end of February, with constructions work getting underway between April and June 2012. For more information, please visit: www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/23385.aspx Members using the A14 are warned that their journeys may be disrupted over the next two or three months as the Highways Agency carries out works to improve drainage, replace joints and resurface the road at the River Ouse viaduct and bridge and on the Cow Lane bridges near Huntingdon. Work will take place over approximately nine weekends and eight weekday night shifts starting from 13 January 2012. Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union


In light of the newly installed Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt this week welcomed the President of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, to a meeting in Copenhagen. The Purpose of the meeting was to discuss the debt crisis in Europe, including negotitions on the proposed scal agreement.
