Devote five to ten hours per week per course.

Do not assume that online courses are easier than traditional on-site classes. Online courses require just as much time and commitment. A reasonable investment of your time for one online course is 5-10 hours per week.
Log in to your course every day.

Visit your online course daily. Keep yourself updated on what is happening in the course at all times. When you log in, it will be interesting to see who has commented on your discussion board postings and learn new ideas from the postings of your course information and classmates.

Always have a pen and paper ready when you read or participate in group discussion. Taking notes not only helps you to concentrate on reading and discussion, but also makes your end-of-semester final review easier.

Completely finish each lesson before moving on to the next one. As you wrap up the previous lesson, review the notes you took during class. Try to do a review two times per week.
Avoid distractions.
Each time you go online, give the class your undivided attention. Make sure you have a quiet learning environment. Do your homework in a place where you can shut the door, leave papers scattered around and work without interruption.
Taking online examinations.

Most online examinations are objective tests. To achieve higher scores online, use the following guidelines. Always read all of the directions before beginning! Do not assume you know what the directions are. Although testing time is more flexible with MyUTBTSC Online Portal, make sure you reserve a time when you can take the exam without interruption. Essay Examinations. Carefully planning your time is more important on essay exams than it is on objective tests. Read through the entire examination first to see how much time you will need for each question. Pay attention to the key words in the essay exam directions. Words such as list, describe, compare and contrast and outline have specific meanings. Make sure you do what you are asked to do.
Learn good study skills.

Be self-disciplined and self motivated. Be comfortable with the computer technology. Do not be overwhelmed by the technology. Make sure you have easy access to a computer with a good internet connection. Develop good writing skills. Writing is the primary method of communication in online classes. Know how to read. Most of the information in an online course is texual information. Your ability to read and understand textual materials is extremely important to your success. Actively participate. Do not hesitate to ask questions! Participate in online discussions and group projects. Actively participating allows you to learn more as well as make new friends and colleagues.
