EARTH MOVEMENT For 1 ..a..... long time 2 ...the... principal of 3 ...an.... idea put forward by scientists that 4.......

world s crust was in 5 ....... perpetual flux was placed in 6 ....... realms of fantasy, if not in 7....... altogether vain category of stupidity. How could 8 ....... entire landmass of 9 ....... stable and God-created world have 10....... fault so profound which would make 11 ....... idiocy of his grand design? But time and 12 .........scientific endeavour was to prove 13 ....... theory correct. Even in 14 ....... ideal world, huge continents moving across 15 ....... face of 16 ....... earth does seem to be 17....... almost impossibility. But when scientists were investigating 18 ....... causes of earthquakes they found that 19 ....... common factor with most of them was 20 ....... dramatic movement of the earth s surface. In 21 ....... Alaskan earthquake of 1963, it seemed 22....... unlikely reason that 23 ....... trench on 24 ....... sea floor several miles from 25 ....... coast had moved 26 ....... entire Alaskan shoreline around 27....... capital, Anchorage. But 28 .......seismic checks of 29....... region pointed to 30....... unprecedented subduction of 31 ....... sea floor under 32....... continental plate. This meant that 33....... movement of one plate could move another which was ajacent to it. 34 ....... examination of other earthquakes around 35....... world showed that this was indeed 36 ....... case. But how were these gigantic plates moving? There was 37 ....... concensus among all 38 ........scientists that 39....... energy source under 40 ....... crust must be 41 ....... cause. It had been known for 42 ....... long time that there were circulating currents of boiling hot magma in 43 ....... mantle of 44........ earth and it was concluded that these were the cause of 45........ crust movement and therefore the cause of earthquakes. Further proof was found in 46....... 1960s when 47........ world-wide map was made of 48....... ocean floor. Here it could be seen that 49....... huge mid-ocean ridge stretched for 50........80,000 miles around 51....... earth. This ridge contained 52....... huge mountain chain, some of which were higher than Mt Everest from 53....... sea floor. Deep sea investigation then showed 54....... surprising amount of life near these ridges sustained by 55....... hitherto unknown heat source of volcanic activity eminating from 56....... ridges. In other words 57....... entire length of 58........ sea floor ridges were actually volcanic and had been producing 59.......lava over millions of years. But this still did not explain how 60....... continent on 61....... surface should move. Then in 62 ....... late 1960s it was discovered that 63 ....... earth s magnetic field 64....... invisible magnet which stretches from one end of 65....... earth to 66 ....... other switched from 67........ north to south and back again every so many millions of years. 68....... rocks of 69....... earth are conductive to this magnitism and retain 70....... trace of this through their atoms. This minute trace can then be detected by 71........modern instruments, dated and recorded. 72 ....... resulting data shows that young rocks near 73 ....... ridges were no more than 74....... few hundred thousand years old, while rocks further away were much older, and those near 75....... shoreline were of millions of years old. This meant that 76....... sea floor was moving. 77.......further proof of sea floor movement has been demonstrated by ultra-sensitive instruments showing 78....... unprecedented miniscule movement. In conclusion, there is no doubt that 79....... landmasses around 80....... world are moving and that everything on those lands are moving with them including all 81.......life - demonstrating 82....... stupendous natural phenomenom which even 83....... insignificant animal like 84....... human has trouble relating to.
