A weekly bulletin for Parents and Students January20,2012 A weekly bulletin for Parents and Students.

Message from the High School Principal

Dear Parents, Once again our campus is amazingly busy with a range of activities. This week we witnessed an extraordinary All Choirs Concert, which included collaboration with MS and with an outside choir from Calvin College. In addition in the HS this week I have been tremendously impressed with our Bearcat Career Week experience. The HS Administration felt that this was an area that we needed to improve in and last years addition of the Bearcat Summer Work Experience, combined with this weeks activities, has certainly raised the profile of career education at ISM. This week we had teachers in their regular classes talking about possible career paths for their subjects, we had specialists from the community and from within the school, give lunchtime chats and we had a brilliant presentation at the Wednesday HS assembly from ISM Board Chair and Alaska Milk President and CEO, Mr. Fred Uytengsu, which urged students to follow their passion, find their element and be the very best at whatever they choose. Students walked out of the theater truly inspired! Tomorrow sees our annual International Family Fun Day and I urge you all to support this PTA organized event. It is their major fundraiser for the year and all proceeds are invested right back into your childs education. In the evening tomorrow the Band Aid concert will play a repertoire of songs from our (at least my!) generation. Again it is a not to be missed ISM event! Power school is now open for this semester and first semester report comments can now be read online. A printed copy of the first semester report card can be collected from the HS Office beginning on Tuesday, January 24th. I remind you that Monday, January 23rd was declared a public holiday and that ISM will be a closed campus that day. Enjoy the long weekend and may the Year of the Dragon bring good health, wealth and happiness! Kung Hei Fat Choi!

William R.S. Brown HS Principal

FROM THE COUNSELING CENTER:

U.S. and Canadian University Applicant Reminders from the High School Counseling Office
The following reminders are for students who have applied or are in process of applying to North American universities. Universities in Canada Ask your child to check if an ISM transcript request has been made (this is completed through the student portal). If a transcript request is not completed, then please ask your child remember to complete a request with the university ID number. If a transcript request is submitted but does not include the university ID number, then please ask your child to give the university ID number to one of the high school counseling secretaries. Universities in the United States Ask your child to check their e-mail account once a day for any updates on the application status. Encourage your child to look for lost messages in the junk/spam folder as well. As a general reminder, several universities do not e-mail students directly for missing documents or test scores. These universities will post any reminders or notices of missing materials on your childs account within their websiteslogin instructions for your childs account should have been e-mailed already. If your child receives an e-mail from the Admissions Office requesting information, then please have them forward the message onto the appropriate counselor. If your child sent scores and/or ISM documents already but they are appearing as missing, do not worry. Give the university two weeks from the application deadline to accurately reflect the information received. Schools receive thousands of documents and it takes time for all the documents to be matched to the correct file. If it is after two weeks from the application date and ISM documents are still missing, then please have your child e-mail the appropriate counselor. If test scores are missing, then have your child see the appropriate counselor. As always if there are any questions, then please call, e-mail or come see us!
