Think: How Influential am I as an Educator?

By Kathy Glisson Rachel Wicker is a graduate of Harris County High School. She is going to speak to our chapter about the influence educators had on her life as well as the challenges and rewards of being a new teacher. Rachel is a wonderful example of public education. She excelled in her business, English and history classes at HCHS. She was very active in numerous high school organizations, especially FBLA, serving as a local officer for 2 years. In her senior year, she served as the FBLA Region 6 Vice President as a state officer. Rachel was part of the winning State Entrepreneurship team in Georgia. She and two other students competed on the national level in this competitive event. Kathy Glisson was her state and local adviser. Rachel was an honor student at HCHS, graduating in 2006. In addition to her active extracurricular activities, Rachel also took numerous years of piano and ballet (point), and, in high school and college, taught dance lessons to elementary school students. She attended University of Georgia and Columbus State University, graduating in the spring of 2011, where she excelled in her studies. Rachel is presently teaching English at Northside High School in Columbus, GA, as well as dance in Columbus, GA. The Beta Gamma meeting will be held at the Pine Mountain Methodist church. A brunch will be served at 10:30, which will consist of breakfast casserole, biscuits, grits, fruit, juice, and coffee. The cost of the brunch is $8.00. We will have a speaker, Rachel Wicker, followed by the business meeting.

Dawns Delicacies Pepperoni Muffin Bites

From Family Fun Magizine

These little corn muffins have the pizza flavor kids crave in a handy bite-size package. Eat them warm, right from the paper liners. A great after-school snack! Ingredients MUFFIN CRUST

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup fine yellow cornmeal 1 tablespoon sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 large egg, lightly beaten 1 1/4 cups milk 1/4 cup vegetable oil

TOPPING
1/3 cup marinara sauce 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/3 cup finely chopped pepperoni

Instructions 1. Heat the oven to 400 and line about 36 mini muffin cups with paper liners. 2. Sift the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, blend the egg, milk, and vegetable oil. Make a well in the dry mixture and add the liquid. Stir the batter until smooth. 3. In a small bowl, blend the marinara sauce and Parmesan cheese; set aside. Spoon the batter into the muffin pan liners, filling them about three quarters full. Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of the sauce-and-cheese mixture on top of each one, pushing it in slightly, and then sprinkle with chopped pepperoni. 4. Bake the muffins for 15 minutes; they'll puff up and brown slightly around the upper edge. Cool in the pan for several minutes, then remove from the pan and eat warm. Makes about 36 mini muffins.

Teacher Tips: Motivating Students

Answer Cards Submitted by: Claudia, Fourth Grade Answer cards are a great way to involve an entire class and quickly see whos on the right track. Place inside a library book pocket 6 or more 35 notecards. Across the end of each card put one response. I use A, B, C, D, and YES, NO. You may want to add TRUE and FALSE or others you need. The students remove the cards they will need and hold their cards close so no one can see them. Then I state the question and answers, repeat once, then tell them to think (wait a few seconds..), say get your answer ready, now, show me your answer. All answers must be held up at the same time. You can see in a second who needs help. If many are wrong say put your cards back and let me give a clue. Then repeat the steps. The kids love this and they feel successful and involved. BONUS! Ive done this several times during evaluations and I never fail to get extra credit for student involvement and motivation. From: http://tips.atozteacherstuff.com/396/motivating-students/
