Nostalgic Pastimes
Great British Jigsaws
Do you remember playing with jigsaw puzzles during your childhood? In my family,
we had a large jigsaw puzzle in a corner of the living room that would be completed
over weeks by everyone in the family. Although todays elaborate electronic home
entertainment systems can provide hours of excitement, there is still no match for the
traditional jigsaw puzzle which provides excellent educational value, relaxation and
social conversation for everyone.
A lifelong fan of jigsaw puzzles with the feeling that there could be much better puzzles
in the market, Bristol resident John Taylor fnally decided to produce his own range
of jigsaw puzzles and Great British Jigsaws was successfully launched just before last
Christmas.
Inspired by the landscapes, architecture and seasonal moods, these unique jigsaw
puzzles are picturesque scenes of Britain taken by British photographers and proudly
made in Britain! Te current range of jigsaw puzzles depicting scenes from the West
Country and Wales are designed to refect these unique British characteristics; bringing
interest and pleasure to both seasoned puzzle makers and beginners. Also inspired by
the British sense of generosity, Great British Jigsaws will donate 50p to charity from
every puzzle sold.
John has selected 12 worthy charities to support that are either local or have a national
profle with a local presence. John says, Tese charities need all the help they can get
with the excellent work they do and in our small way we wish to give them, with your
help, some extra funds.

All kids love to run, but sometimes
running can be hazardous if no one has
taught them how to run. If kids do not
get the opportunity to be out and about

motor control will result in the slowing
down of motor skills development.

Children are special, they learn

they know how to. Movement does

children develop at diferent growth

Our running programme for kids is

programme for children and consists of
two main elements:
1. Teaching them how to run correctly
so that they are effcient and fast
2. Improve their body control by
teaching them how to move with better
coordination and balance
main goals are to help them improve in their chosen sport or just simply to be able
to run faster. Not only do we teach how to run with more efciency and control we

Q
What is Chiropractic?
Te spinal column consists of bones
called vertebrae that are stacked one on
top of the other and separated by fexible
discs. Chiropractors look for and correct
misalignments of the spinal bones with
gentle, safe chiropractic adjustments.
Q
How does Chiropractic
help in pregnancy?
According to studies, frst-time mothers who receive chiropractic care have on
average 24% shorter labour times compared with women who do not. Tose
who have had previous children enjoy a 39% shorter labour compared with
control subjects. Back pain is rampant amongst expectant mothers and up
to 35.5% of moms-to-be endure moderate
to severe back pain. Younger women tend to
sufer from pregnancy-related backache more
than older women and moms who have had
previous pregnancies are at a more elevated risk
compared to frst-time mothers.
Posture changes are a signifcant factor of back
pain. As the baby grows, the mothers centre
of gravity shifs forward. Tis results in an
exaggerated lower lumbar curve. Te mechanical
stresses directed at various muscles, bones and
ligaments surrounding the spine are increased
and can contribute to the lower back pain. If lef
unaddressed, 68% of women who experience
moderate or severe lower back pain during
pregnancy will get reoccurring lower back pain.

whilst pregnant?
Chiropractic is a drug and

How soon can I take
my baby swimming?
Many parents worry that their babies must have
had their vaccinations before they go swimming
but this isnt the case. Te NHS says, You
can take your baby swimming at any age, both
before and afer they have been vaccinated. It
is important that the water is warm enough for
your baby 32 degrees C for babies under 12
weeks of age or who weigh less than 12 lbs in
weight.
Q
I cannot swim but I would like my baby to learn
how to swim. Are there any safety concerns if
I attend the classes with her?
Non swimming parents who

I have an 8 year old son who knows how to

skills and enjoy swimming, how can I get him
more interested in swimming?
At this age the focus should be on stroke development and personal survival
skills and this should be taught through interactive and fun activities. A child
learns best through repetition and by having fun so in every Puddle Ducks
Swim Academy class we make sure we address both of these to make sure the
children never get bored. We even ask our Puddle Ducks to come to the lessons

How to lose weight with Gastric
Band Hypnosis
Imagine yourself losing
over 3 stone and reaching
your target weight without having
to go through another yo-yo diet
that does not work for you. No more
exercise regimes that you cant follow
or having to spend thousands each
year on diet food to only fnd that
you are not losing the weight you
want to lose.
In the last few years, people have
paid 7000 upwards for a gastric band
surgery to regain control of eating and weight loss but such procedures have been
criticised as invasive and sometimes dangerous. However, Gastric Band Hypnosis
is a proven and safe alternative to surgery. Imagine having a gastric band ftted and
your body responded by telling you that you are full before you have fnished eating
your normal sized portion? Gastric Band hypnosis uses hypnotherapy to retrain your
mind. Tis will lead you to feeling fuller sooner, helping you to stop over eating just
like a surgical gastric band would. Gastric band hypnosis takes the obsession out of
food, because you are not on a diet, allowing you more time to pursue a healthy happy
lifestyle.
In a 3 hour one-on-one workshop, you can rid yourself of a lifetimes worth of habits
such as comfort, emotional, reward and boredom eating and regaining control of your
eating. Essential Awareness ofers a fantastic afercare service so you will be supported
through your journey to becoming slim, happy and living abundantly. Te Essential
Hypnotic Gastric Band is 100% safe and you will save your money otherwise spent on
surgery.

I no longer need to weigh myself and I have defnitely noticed a huge difference physically. My husband
keeps saying how much weight I have lost. I look very different when I look in the mirror, both in face and
body. I just dont eat as much; my body just doesnt want it. I put less on my plate and am eating a lot less in
general. There just isnt the battle in my head anymore, I feel everything is in harmony and I have no idea
how it works... it just does KD, Bristol

BEAUTY By Carole Hallam, Good Vibrations
Winter Skin Care for You and Your Kids
You might think that
standing in a steamy shower would help
hydrate your skin, but long showers,
particularly in hot water, can actually have
the opposite efect. Our skin contains special
proteins and fats that make up a protective
barrier to lock in moisture and protect us
from harsh outside environments. Te dry
winter air, forced-air heating, extremes of
temperature and the frequent hot baths and
showers can strip away our skins natural
protection.
hot baths and showers can

protection
Kids have sensitive skin and the winter weather (not to mention the dry indoor heat)
can be harmful on their delicate hands, faces and lips. Be very delicate with child skin
and follow these tips to care for the efects of winter dry skin.
Look for baby creams and body moisturisers with mild ingredients specifcally
formulated for babies, infants toddlers and young children to keep their skin
moisturised.
If possible, look for baby or children-specifc skin care products that are
dermatologically-tested and are proven efective to use for babies, infants, toddlers
and kids. To do this, you have to read product labels carefully before buying.
Buy handmade or homemade soaps that contain glycerine. Tese soaps retain more
moisture in the skin for longer periods compared to ordinary commercially-made
soaps.

Opt for natural and hypoallergenic products to use for your child. For babies and
infants, it would be best to choose fragrance-free creams and lotions for their
sensitive and delicate skin to avoid irritation.
To prevent your childs lips from cracking and chapping, apply lip balm regularly.
Tere are several child-safe lip balms available in the market today. Lip balms
formulated with beeswax, shea butter, and other natural ingredients are best for
kids as they are non-toxic. Tey also contain emollients which help condition your
childs lips and prevent them from soreness.
You can use a humidifer inside your home. Tis prevents indoor air from becoming
too dry caused by heating systems during winter. By using humidifers, indoor air
temperature can be regulated and can help a great deal in preventing your childs
skin from too much dryness which usually leads to itchiness and irritation.
Water-water-water! Always try to encourage your child to drink plenty of water
everyday! Te recommended eight glasses of water a day would do great to keep
your childs body and skin well-hydrated and healthy.

1. Preheat the oven to 160C and line a 12 hole mufn tin with large cupcake cases.
2. Put the butter and the sugar in a freestanding electric mixer with a paddle
attachment (or use a handheld electric whisk) and beat on medium speed until light
and fufy and well mixed. Add the egg and mix well.
3. Stir in the buttermilk, oil and salt, keep mixing and adding the four till the mixture
is well incorporated. Add all the remaining ingredients and beat for 5 minutes till the
mixture is smooth and glossy (yes, it is that simple but trust me this works).
4. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until two-thirds full and bake in the
preheated oven for 2025 mins, or until the sponge bounces back when touched or a
skewer inserted in the centre should come out clean.
5. Leave the cupcakes to cool slightly in the tray before turning out onto a wire cooling
rack to cool completely.
6. Pipe and serve your favourite cool cream cheese frosting or get creative by using
fondant. Smooth a layer of buttercream using a palette knife and fnish by cutting a
fondant disc using a circle cutter to place on each cupcake.
