COURSE DESCRIPTION This course intends to enrich the students with the basic principles of cooperation, evolution and development of cooperative banking and cooperative credit in Ethiopia, legal framework for cooperative banking & its administration. Course Objective: The main objective of the course is to facilitate the students to the aspects of basic principles cooperative banking. The course also makes the students know about the various aspects of cooperative banking, such as both evolution and development of cooperative banking, cooperative credit in Ethiopia, legal framework for cooperative banking & its administration. Contents Chapter one: OVERVIEW OF CO-OPERATIVE BANKING (6 hours)
Brief overview of structure of co-operative credit institutions-Federal, central and primary credit societies.
-Types of credit institutions-salary/ wage earner/employee/consumer credit societies, agriculture credit societies, Land development banks, urban co-operative Bank s etc. -----cooperative
Marketing Societies_ Membership shares linkage, types of members-regular, nominal & As Registration, duties and privileges of the members Associate membership. (5 hours)
