Carriers sign for IAS InterTurn

International Asset Systems announced that four global container shipping lines have signed up to use its new IAS InterTurn street turn service to match supply and demand for empty domestic containers. The lines include CMA CGM, Mediterranean Shipping Co. and U.S. Lines. IAS said these carriers have agreed fo use InterTurn as a way to cut the costs for gate fees, storage charges and terminal handling fees. The carriers are starting to use the service in a number of regions across the United States, and commercial street turns began the week of April 9. Oakland-based IAS said InterTurn, part of the IAS Hub system, can help carriers reduce the size of their container fleets through faster equipment turns. The service also helps support carrier efforts to lessen their environmental impact by cutting the number of container moves. The company said InterTurn can aisc be used by trucking companies to avoid hours-long delays at terminal gates, make more revenue-producing runs, use fuel more efficiently and minimize empty vehicle miles. It said shippers also benefit from being able to scurce containers "on the street."
