Dear Parents and Guardians,

The 2012 NCSSM Prom is rapidly approaching. The Junior/Senior Prom will be taking place on March 31, 2012 at the Museum of Life and Science; an interactive museum full of activities and surprises for your student! To help you and your son/daughter prepare, the following information has been included in your packet: vehicle permission form; overnight permission form; local restaurants, flowers, limos, and tuxedo rental information. Strawbridge Studios will be taking portraits at the Museum on the evening of the Prom. Package and price information will be posted on the main NCSSM website under Announcements. This year we will be selling tickets February 6-10 for a discounted rate at $45.00 a ticket during lunch. Regular Prom tickets will be on sale March 12-30 at $50.00 a ticket. Students may pay with cash or check; please make checks payable to SCSSI. Students may also wait to purchase tickets on the evening of Prom at the door. The ticket price at the door is $55.00. Students may again pay by either cash or check. The ticket price helps subsidize the cost of museum rental, DJ, food, gifts and decorations. Because of the special nature of this event, students are allowed to have vehicles on campus for Prom. Individual vehicles will allow students to choose restaurants and after-prom activities outside the immediate area of Durham. However, personal vehicles are not necessary to attend the Prom. Shuttle busses will be running, not only to and from the Prom site, but also to local restaurants before the Prom. Please read the enclosed vehicle policies carefully. If your student is planning to stay off campus overnight the evening of Prom, we must receive the signed Overnight Permission Form no later than March 28. Students with overnight permission will be asked to leave campus at the In-Residence Hall Curfew. Parents are responsible for students actions when overnight permission is granted. Student Life will provide an After-Prom Lock-In with a hot breakfast on campus. The schedule for the day of Prom is as follows: 10:00 AM 6:00 PM 9:00 PM 9:00 PM 1:00 AM 1:30 AM 2:00 AM 3:00 AM Students with cars may pick up keys from Bryan SLI Office Bus loops to local restaurants begin Bus loops to Prom site begin Prom Car Keys due to Bryan SLI office In-Residence Hall Curfew/After Prom Lock-In begins In-Room Curfew

Due to the fact that the NCSSM Junior/Senior Prom is a Black Tie event, we are requesting that students dress in formal attire (tuxedo preferred, suit and tie acceptable, evening dress for women). Students who arrive at Prom wearing inappropriate attire may be asked to return to campus to change. We encourage parents to be as active in NCSSMs Prom activities as they would be at their local high school. If you are interested in volunteering to help with Prom, please contact Natasha Harris at 919-416-2822. We need parents to help with set-up (6-9pm), chaperoning during the Prom (9pm-1am) and clean up (1-2am). We hope this information will help you provide guidance to your son/daughter when planning the evenings activities. Thank you for your time and involvement in this years prom. Sincerely, Emmie Corl Derek Collier Natasha Harris

Prom Dress Drive

The Prom Committee wants to make sure that everyone who wants to go to Prom has the opportunity to go and have a wonderful evening. We are aware that the economy has yet to bounce back and some families are not able to afford an expensive dress for prom this year. Starting this year, we will be collecting new or gently used Prom Dresses for students to have or borrow for Prom. We will catalog the dresses and make them available for the students who need them. We will also make sure that each dress is returned to the owner if you would like it back. If you have a dress that is gently used that you would like to donate or lend the NCSSM student body for this years prom, it would be greatly appreciated. We will post fliers around campus as to when specific collection times will be, but you can begin to bring in dresses as early as January 29, 2012. If you need a prom dress or have any questions, please contact Emmie Corl (corl@ncssm.edu) for more information.
